Yes, Kathleen Funchion, her father was a prominent trade unionist in Kilkenny for years (SIPTU I think). I would never vote SF but fair play tp her, looks set to take a seat on Kilkenny Borough council.
Is her other half running in Waterford city?

Dont think so. Only one SF candidate in the City, Cullinane. One in County, Fitzgearld. They did very poorly in Waterford this time.

yeah the are stayin thro to the family tradition and stayin FF its the party they believe in.....they think certain ppl are not in the right positions in the dail eg brian and mary!! but they still stand tall as FF men. which i think deserves alot of respect...

Well the FF parliamentary seem to be behind them despite what the McGuinness may think. This was the reason they turfed him out.ie. because they hold the power and he doesn't.
Carlow-Kilkenny is the big loser as we have been turfed out of the inner decision making circle. Well, for as long as FF remain there in any event.

Is that not him, David Cullinane? I was sure they were together

    Mention of her partner, Cullenane here, so that must be himself;

City went FF, County FG it would seem.

Not looking good for JP Phelan at the moment. On twitter, its being reported Brian Clowen is on his way to the Euro East count centre in anticipation of an Aylward win.

Disapointing alright. Far better candidate than Alyward but they had an uphill struggle to get 2 out of 3 without Avril Doyle.
Aylward is a Cowen croony alright

Labour just picked up another CoCo seat in Thomastown with Ann Phelan being elected.

Pat Fitzpatrick lost out. In fairness, he must be raging with the McGuinness's. He laid a lot of ground work.

Wow, that is a shocker! Of all the McGuinness minions he was the one I actually had a bit of time for. Did he get the Borough council though?

    I'm disappointed for Pat.

He didn't run for the Borough council.

Pat is a nice man, very personable. He must have took it on the chin for FF locally. He'll bounce back.

Eamon Aylward (FF) elected in Piltown LEA.

He joins Tomas Breathnach (Lab), Pat Dunphy (FG), Anne-Maria Irish (FG).

4 out of 6 seats filled.

So who is left in the running for the final 2 seats?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭road_high

McGuiness's right hand man looses his seat, has to be a big big story locally.
Bit ironic here since as I was just reading FF/Mc Guinness people here actually GLOATING that a first time young chap for FG did not get in. What goes around comes around.

    Paddy Gaule (FG)
    Cora Long (FF)
    Pat Walsh (FF)

Cora Long was a stalwart. Another big blow if she's gone.

Phelan would have taken seat only for Childers. She had poster allover Leinster. Alyward scrapes in with Byrne transfers, it would seem.

Aylwards surplus being distributed at the moment, should help her, but at last count, the 2 FGs were ahead of the 2 FFs.

Looking like that alright, its a real pity the JP missed out. I've actually spoke to him on a good few occasions and he seems a decent enough fellow.

Yea, good guy, progressive. Childers was a blow-in candidate. Not sure she even grew up or had anyhting to do with Leinster. Name recognition and posters and adverts everywhere got her through.

Fidelis Doherty (FG) elected and Cora Long (FF) elected without reaching the quota.

    All Piltown seats now filled.

    Thomastown could go to recount
