nice sean. music wise/feel wise/groove wise it seems great. i'd sort out a lot of the 'dodgier' sounds on it though.

cheers dude, itching to get it finished but stupid work is getting in the way:mad:

definitely address alot of the huge issues when i go at it again though.
i do like the groove behind it.
i probably should have eased off on the epic build but feck it:D

Sean Nash & Ollie Jones-New Track

okay so this is a very rough sketch of my latest one.its a collab between me and a fella called ollie jones.
truth be told i did 99% of this(through no fault of ollies)but hell be doing a big room version using the melody in the breakdown.

mixdown isnt good and it has some mad issues with the volume automating spiking but i figured id throw it up as i dont know when ill get time to finish it off and wouldnt mind some feedback on it as it is

    cheers
got a chance to finish this one up.
would love opinions about the mixdown of the track(even if the tracks isnt your cup of tea)
might have made the drums a bit too wide?

    Hi Conor,
Had a quick listen to your track Control. I'm no pro at this malarkey but here's my feedback anyway:

    Overall Vibe/ Groove:
I like it, would definitely get my head nodding. Like the reverby washed out feel with the throbbing bass in the background,

    Sound Design / Selection:
Some nice synth sounds: Nice pluck, nice watery sound that comes in around 2.35., nice whistly sound.

    Arrangement:
Needs more variation - maybe try introducing some random fx swells, here and there to keep things interesting. Also try and humanise your percussion with little fills / licks every few measures.

The pluck synth sound that goes through most of the track should be taken out at some point. Additionally I'd like to have heard some more melodic elements (this is just personal preference) at some point, maybe a dark sounding pad or minor stab hits.

Also you could do with more percussion elements to keep driving the track. I can only hear a kick, clap, hat and ride cymbal. You could add some bongos, toms, claves or something similar to give it a bit more rhythm. It doesn't have to be a full on rhythm even an off beat bongo lick sent to reverb every 4 bars can really help drive the track (for an example of this and check out Joris Voorn - Deep Side of the Moog).

    Mixing:
From what I can hear the mix to be cleaned up: especially around the bass end (I was listening on headphones so take my advice with a pinch of salt). I found it hard to hear the kick with a bass that size. You could try the following and see if they help (I'm not saying they will but it's what i'd try):

    1. Gentle sidechain compression of the bass with the kick. This should bring the level of the bass pattern down when the kick hits. How hard you compress is personal preference and depends on whether you want to actually hear the compression.
    2. Use eq to give the kick and the bass each their own space in the mix. Find where one peaks using an spectrum analyser and then cut the the other instrument at around that frequency. In your case the bass sounds pretty subby, so you may want to cut the kick at around 40HZ and then possibly boost the kick( or cut the bass) a little higher (whatever sounds best though)
    3. Reduce the release time on the bass synth so that it's tail isnt overlapping with the kick.

Overall I thought it was a good first effort and as I said, got my head nodding which is half the battle.

Thanks very much for taking time to listen and the feedback. Definitely gave me a few things to work on. cheers.

It is a big fat nasty tune, personally i don't think the sample used adds too much to the track....and maybe digging a little deeper will reveal something really nasty and evil that would suit.

Advice for next track, just stay doing what you are doing man. Really interesting tune, as i said.

Just did it yesterday. It's the first time, I've created anything just using the instruments in Ableton.

My first trip into the dance production forum:eek:
I have mixed a dance track for a client and would like some experienced opinions if possible.
Very commercial with a bit of guitar too.
The guys are pushing it to labels so, being pretty inexperienced with this sort of music (I do mainly rock/metal) you guys should be able to help.
    Thanks in advance

Nice, much cleaner sounding than the Moisture Bud EP. I thought the white noise is a bit overpowering at 6:36 when it distorts. How about using the lead that comes in at 4:35 could have been brought in a bit earlier.

Cheers for taking the time to listen sean. I can see wher you are coming from with the white noise, its a bit of an earfull alright, but i kinda like it like that. The lead does come in a bit late, but i think the whole song is a bit too long.

Have you got anything rocking on the emx yet? Ive still got your rca cable adaptors! We should get a collab going soon.

This is nice. Good tune. nice progressions

Points to improve on for me would be 1) modulating or changing the main sound that goes thoughout the track. morphing it and evolving it slightly. 2) making the drum sounds your own through processing and sound design 3) going 'off the meter' a bit more, less 'straight' and a little more off beat.

    Overall, good work.

Love this one! Exactly the kind of brooding techno im interested at the moment, lovin the chord stabs. would be great to get someone to do a more dancefloor orientated remix of it! Production is of its usual impeccable quality, keep up the good work.

Hi there. This is my first post on the Dance Music Production Forum. I recently got a free 7 day trial subscription to MacProVideo & used it to watch the "Mixing Electronica" tutorial by Olav Basoski. This inspired me to try out some of his mixing suggestions on a piece of my own.

    www.soundcloud.com/jj-vernon/november

I would appreciate any pointers from those that are familiar with this type of music in terms of mixing & arrangement. Have to say I'm fairly happy with the way it has turned out. I hope you enjoy it.smile.gif

cheers dude. been hitting the mother of all creative blocks over the past while but hopefully this track signals the end of it.

    New tracks "Visions" and "Enigma".

    http://www.box.net/shared/991d84ch9h

    http://www.box.net/shared/q9t94urd41

They're both completely different than the stuff I normally do, but I enjoyed composing them. Went for something a bit Japanese Popstars-esque, don't know how well it turned out though. All feedback is very, very, very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Hey mate, not usual a fan of this style of music but the name grabbed me so i said i would give it a spin.

You have yourself a very nice track here mate, the melodic qualities are just great ( those keys grabbed my interest from the start ), the pacing in the track ( i feel ) is superb, the elements change so fluidly as well.

Well done man, something a bit universal in this tune that i am sure will appeal to a lot of people.

cheers dude. don't know if it's gonna work commercially (ironically because of it's accessibility) but i like it for now.
    thanks again.
