    Hi,

I'm new here and I just picked up two of the stereos. When I arrived in Lidl (Wicklow) I thought they were all gone as there were none on the shelves. I happened to ask when they had sold out at the checkout and I was told that they had them in the back! Another person in the shop instantly snapped one up after seeing I had them at the checkout. I think alot of people thought they were sold out when they were not..

Anyway, I though I would upload some photos of the stereo. The Stereo is a Silvercrest KH 2375. I haven't installed them yet as I am waiting on parts. I have a 2002 Passat with 1 Din VM Gamma stereo and a 2004 passat with a 2 Din VW Delta stereo. I have ordered the following parts to allow me to install them if it helps anybody..

    2002 Passat (AUTOLEADS PC2-69-4 & Autoleads PC5-90)
    2004 Passat (AUTOLEADS PC2-75-4 & Autoleads PC5-137)

Please note the aerial needs to amplified in the VW cars to get good radio reception. The aerial is automatically amplified by the VW standard stereos. You need the Autoleads parts above to do the same job for non factory fit stereos. This may explain the poor reception I have read about for the Lidl stereos in previous threads. I hope this helps..

Does anyone think that what the above poster is talking about with the extra leads he purchased, would they help with the buzzing sound???

I have the ground loop connection on the way to me in the post so hopefully I will have it soon and will be able to try it out. However I was looking at the back of the radio last night and I seen that I have nothing connected into the back of the radio where this connection will go. Here's the picture of what I bought:

    !BQlvc-QB2k~$(KGrHgoOKj4EjlLmY+TiBJ5u!uWwsg~~_1.JPG

So I don't know how its going to work, but its on its way now so I might as well see what I can do.

I installed my speakers last night and they went grand with this radio, thank god, and I was looking in the book at what people were telling me to do with swapping two wires at the back of the radio so that it would save stations for me, sounds a bit mad to me, but sure if that's the way it works then that's what I'm going to have to do, will give it a shot tonight.

I think it's to do with the battery and the engine and powering the radio off the battery is better because it can keep the stations in its memory that way, otherwise when the engine goes off the radio forgets everything.

The isolator plugs into the back of the radio and also gives you back the 2 line out connectors so you can still use an external amp. You don't need to use them.

So that's not going to work then, no???? I presume that's only if your amp is giving a buzzing sound. So I guess were back to square one with that one.

Also does anyone else's turn on when your car is off, like can you just hit the power switch and it will turn on for an hour or so??? Because my last 2 cars would, and the original radio in this car did too. Its just that I do deliveries and I sit in the car for a good while waiting on one to come through so I like listening to the radio for a while, either way I can just turn the engine on half way, but how long can I do that for before my battery goes dead do you think???

Yes it will work if there is a grounding problem as it grounds the entire curcuit. The additional 2 connections on the isolator are there for convenience if you wish to connect an amp.

Anyone know if these consume much power when switched off/faceplate removed? I ask cause my battery was dead this morning with nothing else consuming power and it's been suggested to me it could be the stereo?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 491 ✭✭vox

No it would only use enough power to keep the memory... not enough to drain a battery.

Whats the biggest memory card that this will take??? And what exact one is it that I need???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 546 ✭✭✭Daibheid

I just fitted one of these, works a treat and it's got every feature you could want at a stunning price with a 3 year warranty.

I had a decent stereo but for DIY adding bluetooth to a car this is a w:)inner on price and ease of installation compared to any other bluetooth solution (this side of a headset!)

Highly recommended if you're thinking of grabbing one next time round.

Hi, Bought one of these radios recently but only got around to fitting it this evening. Everything is fine except the radio wont tune to any stations except the local one here ,midwest radio.
It looks like the aerial needs to be amplified.
The car is a 00 VW golf and the stereo i removes was a kenwood that had pretty good (but not great radio reception).
All the fittings on the back matched up ok and I test the radio before i pushed it in to make sure the connections were made.
anyone any ideas of what i need ? Not sure of the information in the above post.
    thanks in advance.

I reckon your aerial does need to be amplified. I am looking at the instuctions for the Autoleads PC5-90 Signal Separation Filter (ISO - DIN) and it says it applies to all VW models. I suspect this is the part you need as it works with my 2002 VW Passat.

I have noticed that my radio reception is not great with the Lidl stereo even after getting the amplified aerial adapters. The radio reception on the standard VW Gamma and Delta radios seemed much better.

To answer an earlier posters message about the biggest SD card that will work with the stereo. I reckon it will be a standard 2GB non SDHC card. The file system standard changed with the SDHC cards and the stereo doesn't seem to be able to cope with the newer standard. The manual says it works with cards up to 1GB, but my 2GB non SDHC card works fine.

Thanks for the help mac25, got one of the aerial adapters today and it sorted the problem.
like you said, reception not perfect but good enough.
Have to say that streaming music from my nokia N95 works a treat on this stereo.

Pick up an aerial amplifier off ebay or somewhere, should sort the problem, or simply just bring it back and buy a different one.

I remember older Opel/Vauxhall had a seperate power cable to the antenna, as it had an internal amplifier. Not sure about newer models, but it looks liek your signal amp isn't active for whatever reason.

Will have a chat with the guy in halfords and see what he says!

get them to remove the arial signal amplifier if they added one as I think the unit may already have a signal boost built in. My radio reception works much better with just a standard connection.

My one has horrific reception, was going to buy an aerial amplifier. What else could I do to help it???

My reception is grand. First I would reset the radio by pressing the reset button. Then try turning off the EON function and the TA function as they are not needed and may cause issues.

Did you try that isolator thing?

No "The Ground Loop Isolator" didn't work at all, it is only if you have a speaker system set up, and that is causing interferance through it, I have another use for it in the house, so it wasn't a complete waste of money.

I will try that later on tonight actually, good thinking.

Despite my earlier posts, I never could get any decent reception on this radio. I even bought a different (boosted) aerial that is mounted inside the windscreen but still hopless.
bought a JVC radio (not bluetooth unfortunately but has aux in) from a local shop today and the reception is absolutely perfect (using the windscreen aerial mentioned above).
my conclusion is that the reciever built into these silvercrest radions is rubbish, but it might be ok in different parts of the country.
by the way, does anyone know if lidl in the republic will accept back items bought in the North ?

Picked one up in Limerick today. Can't say much bar that the box looks nice. It doesn't come with an iso connector, but I had one already ready.
