Does anyone know the call quality of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 963 ✭✭✭chavezychavez

Picked one up the last time and had no trouble installing or using.
Call quality is fine on the car side, but just be careful where you put the microphone. As long as its not obstructed by your hand or the wheel while driving, it works perfectly.

Best Point - SD Card reader and mp3 CD player . No need for huge amount of CDs in the car

Worst Point - AF not the greatest, can struggle to stick to a frequency for a while when the signal is weak.

For the price though, well chuffed with it.

so its a seperate microphone to the headunit itself?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

Not in my one anyway, microphone is integrated into the unit. I've been told it picks up the noise from the indicators very loudly but other than that call quality has been excellent.

Anyone know if this player has a line-in for an audio jack? Or do I have to connect my MP3 player to it via USB?

What would be the possibility of retaining remote control on this in an 02 Ford Focus ?

I love this radio (well the version I got about a year and a half ago) and found it very easy to install (and I'm a girl :p) I also love the SD card feature on it.
so its a seperate microphone to the headunit itself?

The one I got has a microphone on the end of a very lengthy cable coming from the back of the radio. The quality is great! When my phone rings, the music stops and the ringtone plays through the speakers, and phone number appears on screen. I just press a green button to accept calls and hang up. Don't even need to take the phone out of my bag when I get into the car!
Anyone know if this player has a line-in for an audio jack? Or do I have to connect my MP3 player to it via USB?

The one I have can do both. Has a line in (cable came with the radio) and a usb port. It's handier for me to use the USB port as then I can control the music from the radio and not the mp3 player.

Surely having the mp3 player plugged in via usb means it will only show up if it works as an external drive.
I'm pretty sure iPods don't let you access music via mass storage.

I use a creative zen mp3 player. When it's not crashing or freezing it plays music and I can access it via mass storage. So it should work via USB then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 Scrunch

I got this last November and find it great, use SD cards for all my music now.

The USB input is supposed to be limited to 1GB according to the manual so it would not be suited to mass storage devices through that input. Line in works fine with my 4GB Creative V player. Have used SDHC cards up to 4GB and these work perfectly.

The bluetooth for telephone calls is good. Incoming sound is loud and clear. Output (through microphone on the end of a cable) is just ok, sometimes difficult to hear at the other end - low volume not great quality.

    Overall a great radio.

Will it play music off my phone over Bluetooth.
    Like those wireless Bluetooth headphones?

As long as the phone is A2DP, then yes it will. Even the sound from video clips on your phone will play through it.

    Nice.

I had the earlier model Silvercrest with bluetooth. The Bluetooth worked great but the radio tuner was brutal. Very poor reception on stations which were fine on the original Opel stereo which was in the car and really bad bleed over from stronger stations on nearby frequencies. The CD player was prone to freezing as well.

Hopefully this model has improved but if you do go for this, keep the packaging and receipt in a safe place!

I have one of these Lidl radios for almost 2 years now and its a great unit. I connect up my Nokia N95 with a USB cable and it picks up all of the music on my 8GB SDHC card no bother. Takes about a minute to read from the phone. Handy search function on the remote lets you play whatever you want. Reception can be a bit iffy but overall no complaints.

Anyone know if this would work with Sony Ericssons?
I don't think they show up as mass storage by default, they have to be switched to that mode and this might turn off phone functions.

This is probably a thick question, but how do you fit off the shelf car stereos into cars that have an inbuilt stereo/radio with a different shape and size?

You can get specially shapped Fascia Plate that will allow you to install a regular shaped stereo unit.

To see one for the old Renault Megane go to ebay.ie and search for Item Number: 370208692543

Anyone find out about the Sony Ericsson compatibility yet?

Maybe try plugging the phone into a pc in mass storage mode and then ringing it to see how that works.

Or, as said above, if the phone supports bluetooth A2DP you won't even need to plug it in as the stereo will act as a bluetooth speaker.

Is it an easy DIY job to install it?

It would probably depend on the make of car but I found it very easy.
That siad, I bought a spurious one on ebay and it didn't fit 100%

It's been half in for several months now and you wouldn't notice unless you were looking for it.
Will probably never fix it now, it's been on the long finger too long.

I'd rather stay away from Mass Storage mode altogether, it's just a pain in teh a5s.

The bluetooth option would probably be the best but then I have to use the phone to select tracks. That said, I'd at least have a more sexy interface on the phone (complete with Album art) than on the head unit.

Anyone know off hand if the SE W595 supports A2DP or do I have to check on-line?

I got one of the much older versions of this 3 or 4 years ago (no bluetooth or SDHC, but everything else), and I'm using an 8GB kingston flash drive with it and it reads all of the music fine. Just takes a while. I imagine 1GB is the advised limit so that it just reads the list straight up without a huge delay.

Lets hope that's the case with SD cards also, I've a couple of 8gb cards lying around.

That would make total sense :) I don't have an ipod so it didn't cross my mind

I plug an Archos and iRiver into mine, as well as various USB keys and all have worked fine - but of course, they show as external drives on pc's. I've also played music from my Nokia N81 via Bluetooth with no issues.

I thought about buying this, then saw that it's only £59.99 in NI . Can't make it up Thurs so I think I'll wait 'til they drop the price here.

You'd only be saving about €20 but then spending at least 4 hours of your time and definitely more than €20 in fuel getting there and back. It's also not likely to come down to €70 here, probably not for another 2 years or so!

Will I be able to play the ipod via the "aux in" option using the rite cable????

Also would I need anything else to put this radio into my 06 Astra besides the correct gunmetal fascia

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 188 ✭✭power2614

    Anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

There doesn't seem to be an "aux in" on the front of stereo. If it's similar to mine, the "aux in" is at the back of the stereo and is for things like cd changers in the boot and so forth.

What you can do is insert a cable into this before you install it and have the cable coming out from behind the fascia. Not pretty, but it will let you use your iPod.

I think the little black circle just under the far right red button looks like aux in... hopefully?

Probably better asking in the Motors forum what's needed when changing the stock headunit in your Astra. There might be a wiring harness or aerial adaptor, etc. needed.

yeah, but adaptors are widely available. You should have no prob fitting this stereo.

Agreed. Lidl will not bother dropping the price. Its good value as it stand at the price.
The fact there a big thread on this humble special offer stereo on this forum is indicative of how much interest there is.

Yeah, true. I was thinking more along the lines of how easy/difficult it is to remove the existing stock stereo first though, or if it has a standard DIN space.

I haven't read down through the whole thread but I just wanted to add that the indicator being heard is probably because the relay for the indicators (sometimes in the hazard swithch) could be located beside the radio (VW Golf for example) and this would cause the noise created to be increased. Some cars however have the relay down beside the fuses or in the steering column itself so it will not be a problem in them cars. If you turn on the hazards, and listen for a mechanical clicking sound, that should let you know where it is on your own particular car.

Again sorry if this has already been said.

I was thinking of going for this too, but then I realised that my car(a '98 ford fiesta) doesn't have the usual shape. It looks like this radio except its a tape player instead of cd. Would i have to get something else aswell to put it in?

Anyone get one? Really wanted one but forgot lidl opened at 8.. arrived at about 9.05 and all gone.. no sign of em at all.
Edit: Someone got one for me in another store! Sweet. Actually had a look on ebay and there isn't really anything close to this price with the same features so im pretty happy with this now!

I'm pretty sure there are fascia gap fillers, but it'll slot in with a little gap above it no problem. Extra storage compartment for papers or whatever ;)

    Hi,

I'm new here and I just picked up two of the stereos. When I arrived in Lidl (Wicklow) I thought they were all gone as there were none on the shelves. I happened to ask when they had sold out at the checkout and I was told that they had them in the back! Another person in the shop instantly snapped one up after seeing I had them at the checkout. I think alot of people thought they were sold out when they were not..

Anyway, I though I would upload some photos of the stereo. The Stereo is a Silvercrest KH 2375. I haven't installed them yet as I am waiting on parts. I have a 2002 Passat with 1 Din VM Gamma stereo and a 2004 passat with a 2 Din VW Delta stereo. I have ordered the following parts to allow me to install them if it helps anybody..

    2002 Passat (AUTOLEADS PC2-69-4 & Autoleads PC5-90)
    2004 Passat (AUTOLEADS PC2-75-4 & Autoleads PC5-137)

Please note the aerial needs to amplified in the VW cars to get good radio reception. The aerial is automatically amplified by the VW standard stereos. You need the Autoleads parts above to do the same job for non factory fit stereos. This may explain the poor reception I have read about for the Lidl stereos in previous threads. I hope this helps..
