Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Increasing cloud this morning with showers spreading and moving northeast, eventually most places will have 5-10 mm rain during the day but some brighter intervals too, rather warm and humid with highs 18-21 C.

TONIGHT ... Heavier rain arriving during the evening in western counties will spread across the country, falls of 10 mm will be widespread. One or two embedded thundershowers may develop in the midlands. Light southerly winds will increase to moderate westerly 30-50 km/hr. Lows 9-12 C.

SUNDAY ... A few clearing intervals, but followed by more showers in moderate westerly breezes, highs 17-19 C.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will be partly to mostly cloudy with showers and highs near 18 C.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY will be showery and slightly cooler at 16-17 C.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY are looking warmer again with some sunshine, risk of heavy showers in north by late Saturday. SUNDAY will be cloudy but warm with further showers. Highs 21-23 C.

My local weather on Friday was overcast with some breaks by evening, and the highs reached 19 C. Very warm weather covers most central regions of the U.S., but is clashing with cooler air masses over the Great Lakes region. This will set off severe storms in some parts of the lower Great Lakes, Ohio valley and inland northeast states later today, tonight, then it will turn sharply cooler in those regions on Sunday while staying hot further west and south.

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... A few brighter intervals this morning, then scattered showers, one or two likely to become heavy with thunder and hail. These will be "hit or miss" and when they develop, they will tend to drift in an east to northeast direction. Rainfall amounts will average about 5 mm but could be 15 mm in a few locations. Highs 17-19 C.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy with a few clear intervals, foggy or misty by morning, a few isolated showers continuing, lows 8-11 C.

MONDAY ... Variable cloud and occasional showers, risk of a thunderstorm, but also some brief sunny intervals. Highs 17-20 C.

TUESDAY ... Partly cloudy, showers and a few thunderstorms, lows 7-10 C and highs 17-19 C.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY will be a little cooler due to north to northeast winds of 30-50 km/hr, lows 6-9 C and highs 15-18 C. There will still be a few showers in the mix, but longer sunny intervals especially in western counties.

FRIDAY is likely to be a mainly sunny day with warmer daytime temperatures, lows 7-9 C and highs 19-22 C.

OUTLOOK is starting to look warmer (as I suspected, we're seeing maps with the jet stream pushing much further north) and while this may continue to change day to day, the current charts bring temperatures back into the mid twenties as early as next weekend (with the usual sea breeze cooling) under mainly sunny skies. Any showery interruptions would be confined to the far north and even there just briefly. I don't consider this late June warm spell to be "carved in stone" yet given the change in guidance, but if several more days show something similar then I would begin to have more confidence in that outcome.

My local weather was cloudy with occasional rain on Saturday, and cool, highs only 16 C. Further east, it was very hot in parts of the eastern U.S., Washington D.C. hit 36 C and New York 32 C but Boston never saw the warm sector and stayed around 16 C in low cloud and mist. Much cooler air is sweeping south across Ontario and Michigan early this morning (local time) and will soon arrive on the east coast, dropping temperatures and bringing a strong northwest wind gusting to 80 km/hr.

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Mostly cloudy, outbreaks of rain will be heaviest to the north of a slow-moving low that will enter north Connacht from the Atlantic this morning to reach central Ireland by this evening. Rainfalls of 15-25 mm are possible in counties from south Donegal to Offaly and Westmeath. A more showery outcome is likely in Munster and south Leinster with isolated thunderstorms. Rainfalls will be 10-20 mm there. East Ulster will have a more persistent light rain and 5-15 mm. Highs 14-17 C north and east, 17-20 C in Munster.

TONIGHT and TUESDAY, the slow-moving low will drift across south Leinster and into the Irish Sea. This will bring the heavier rain across central Leinster where some falls of 20-30 mm are possible. Runoff from parts of the Dublin and Wicklow hills may create minor stream flooding. Elsewhere, the pattern will continue more showery with 5-15 mm amounts, some isolated thunderstorms, but also a few brighter intervals. Lows 11-13 C and highs about 14-17 C for east, 17-20 C west.

WEDNESDAY ... As the low drifts around in a slow loop over Wales and western England, winds will become more northerly and some breaks in the overcast will bring sunny intervals, but also some showers and thunderstorms will develop. Lows near 8 C and highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY and FRIDAY will continue to see the remnants of this slow-moving disturbance and it will be mostly cloudy with some sunny intervals, these more frequent in the west, and a few heavy showers possible, these more likely inland eastern half of Leinster. Lows near 7 C and highs near 16 C.

SATURDAY will be partly to mostly sunny and warmer, with highs 20-23 C.

SUNDAY and MONDAY may bring showers to the north, rather warm and partly cloudy in the south, highs 21-24 C (except 17-20 C far north).

OUTLOOK may keep changing in details, but is generally warm with the greater chance of showers in the north from time to time.

If you are heading to Britain, take into account the slow eastward drift of the present system and expect the heavier rainfalls there to come mid-week.

My local weather on Sunday was partly cloudy to overcast with highs near 19, meanwhile much colder air rushed into New England and the lower Great Lakes and dropped temperatures rapidly; on the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire (elevation 1800m), it was snowing in 140 km/hr winds with a temperature of about -4 C (not entirely unprecedented but normally it would be closer to 10 degrees with 50-80 km/hr winds up there in mid-June). At lower elevations, Montpelier, the capital of Vermont, had a mid-afternoon reading of 7 degrees. In New York City it was close to 30 C in the morning in strong winds but then it dropped to near 15 C in the afternoon. As the strong upper low responsible for all this heads into the western Atlantic, it may produce some changes in the model evolution so anything past about five days is subject to change (one possible response would be strong ridge building in the eastern Atlantic, meaning a better outlook to come).

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... the slow-moving low will drift across the midlands into south Leinster and into the Irish Sea by this evening. There will be intervals of heavier rain across south-central Leinster (Laois and west Wicklow may see the heaviest amounts) where some falls of 20-40 mm are possible. Runoff from parts of the Wicklow hills and western Laois may create minor stream flooding. There could be further heavy rain in Connacht especially this morning too. Some roadway flooding has probably developed already in a few places around south Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon. Elsewhere, the pattern will continue more showery with 5-15 mm amounts, some isolated thunderstorms, but also a few brighter intervals. Highs about 14-17 C for east, 16-19 C west.

TONIGHT ... Rain tapering to showers or drizzle in most of the country, and some partial clearing near Atlantic coasts, lows 7-9 C, widespread fog and mist developing.

FURTHER OUTLOOK calls for generally warm and partly cloudy to overcast weather, hopefully some sunshine will break through especially inland south and east, but rain won't entirely leave the mix for parts of Ulster and north Connacht in particular as the warm spell redevelops late in June. Details will continue to change from day to day that far out, but above normal temperatures do seem fairly certain, the uncertainty lies more with cloud cover and rainfall potential. It would not take much to bring on very warm or even hot weather during this spell as some charts have potential for mid 20s with high 20s in southern England and parts of northern France.

My local weather on Monday started out wet in the morning but skies became partly cloudy around mid-day and the highs were about 18 C. The eastern cold interlude seems to be rapidly transitioning back to warm weather. For the U.S. Open golf in western PA, the outlook is for some thundery rainfall on Thursday and clearing on Friday followed by a warm and dry weekend. It won't be as windy as the past few days if you've been watching any of the practice or caught the Senior golf event in the same general area over the weekend; those very gusty westerly winds have now pushed out into the Atlantic.

TODAY ... Some sunny breaks will develop but showers will build up in the eastern half of the country, becoming locally heavy and thundery, in a northerly breeze 30-50 km/hr. Rainfall amounts in east 5-15 mm, lower in most western counties. Highs 14-17 C.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy with some clear intervals, cool. Lows 6-9 C.

THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, isolated showers, mainly eastern counties, and northerly breezes 40-60 km/hr. Highs 14-17 C.

FRIDAY ... Partly cloudy with longer sunny intervals developing, showers quite isolated and brief and most places dry. Lows 6-9 C and highs 15-19 C.

SATURDAY ... Sunny intervals, warmer. Lows 7-10 C and highs 18-22 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, warm, slight risk of rain in northwest. Lows 8-12 C and highs 19-23 C.

MONDAY to WEDNESDAY will be rather cloudy with limited sunshine in the southeast, occasional showers that may be heavier at times in north, west and central counties, and continued rather warm with highs near 20 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK calls for gradual warming trend in the last weekend and following week of 23 June to about 1st of July, with highs possibly reaching the mid 20s at times.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast with rain, rather cool at 16 C and some heavy downpours. Severe storms developed in parts of the central plains states and will redevelop in roughly the same regions today.

SLOW IMPROVING TREND WITH A RETURN TO VERY WARM WEATHER LIKELY

TODAY ... Mostly cloudy, a few showers and isolated thunderstorms in eastern and central counties, cool. Highs 14-17 C. Winds northerly 40-60 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy with a few clear intervals, showers ending. Lows 8-10 C.

FRIDAY ... Mixture of cloud and sunshine, just a few isolated showers near north coast feeding through Ulster into northern midlands, but many places should start to dry out, with highs 15-18 C.

SATURDAY ... Sunny with cloudy intervals, slight risk of fog, drizzle near northwest coasts. Lows 8-10 C and highs 18-22 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, isolated showers late in the day mainly in west, lows 8-11 C and highs 19-23 C.

MOST OF NEXT WEEK will be seasonably warm with highs around 20 to 23 C and one or two frontal passages with rain but also some dry spells. Then it seems likely to turn very warm at the end of June and some guidance suggests that temperatures could begin to move up through the mid 20s towards the 27-29 C range, this is certainly more likely in the inland south and in parts of southern Britain than other places, but it should become quite warm everywhere.

My local weather brought a mixture of cloud and sun with highs near 18 C. The earlier forecast for the U.S. Open golf event is holding up, today will bring further showers and perhaps an afternoon thunderstorm, highs near 30 C, and Friday will see morning showers and a clearing trend, with the weekend expected to be warm, dry and not very breezy which will help the players at such a demanding course. That scenario is fairly typical of how the next few days will unfold in most of the eastern U.S., the central and southwestern states will be hot with forecasts of 48 C for Phoenix by Sunday (near 120 F). That heat is staying confined to the southwest this time, we are only expecting a modest rise in temperatures here, to about 22 C.

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Partly cloudy, sunny intervals will be more frequent in the west, and there's still a chance of a few showers near the east coast, in cool northerly breezes of 30-50 km/hr. Highs 14-17 C except 17-19 C possible in west Munster.

TONIGHT ... Partly cloudy, lows 7-10 C.

SATURDAY ... Cloudy with sunny breaks, warmer. Some mid-day or afternoon light rain may develop across parts of Connacht and Ulster. Highs 18-22 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, warm, further showers likely. Lows 10-13 C and highs 19-23 C.

NEXT WEEK is still looking fairly warm with a few showery frontal passages although there could be a somewhat drier trend in general terms. Highs will be around 21-22 C most days but could start to climb into the mid to high 20s near the end of the week. One of the global models was depicting hot weather spreading north from France into England by Saturday 25th and while not quite as hot in Ireland the output was well into the 20s. However, this is just the latest in an ongoing series of twists and turns on the road to what I imagine will be an eventual very warm spell -- the details keep changing but that signal keeps showing up somewhere around the end of June.

My local weather was pleasant enough for a change, a lot of cumulus cloud but sunny breaks and highs near 19 C. If you're following the golf, you'll know that most of the first round was delayed by repeated thunderstorms, the last of the showers will probably move through this morning and the rest of the event should enjoy ideal warm and sunny weather. The heavier storms have already passed Washington D.C. on their way out into the Atlantic, warmer air is being prevented from moving any further north by amplification of a ridge further west and extreme heat is expected to spread out of the desert regions into the plains states (with humidity from recent rains once past New Mexico).

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Some sunny intervals in eastern counties, warmer. Light rain will spread rather gradually into the western half of the country late this morning and through early afternoon, only reaching the east by late afternoon or evening. Amounts of 3-7 mm are expected. Highs 18-21 C, warmer in the east today.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy, some fog and mist with rain becoming heavier towards morning, a further 5-10 mm expected, lows 10-13 C.

SUNDAY ... Morning rain may be persistent in the east, but a gradual drying trend will spread into the west. It will be quite warm, and humid, with a few brighter intervals but extensive cloud. Highs 18-21 C but potential for 22-24 in west Munster if some breaks develop.

MONDAY ... Warm with a few showers, mostly cloudy but a few brighter intervals, lows 10-13 C and highs 19-22 C.

TUESDAY ... Sunny intervals, highs 19-22 C.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY will be partly to mostly cloudy with one or two showers, not quite as warm. Highs 17-20 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK still looks fairly warm into the end of next week and the following weekend, with highs 22-25 C. Guidance keeps changing for the longer term but there's always some very warm days mixed in.

My local weather was sunny and pleasantly warm at 21 C, cloud and rain are spreading north from Washington state to arrive before dawn. The eastern U.S. and southern Ontario can expect a sunny and warm weekend with low humidity.

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Rain will be persistent in the east and north, heavier inland north where 15-25 mm could fall, 10-15 mm more likely elsewhere. The rain will taper off to drizzle during the late morning in western counties, with some brighter intervals developing there, which may allow temperatures to rise a little above 20 C. Further east the low cloud and drizzle will persist and highs will be only 16 or 17 C. Humidity levels will remain high even after the rain ends, and gusty southwest winds will develop near exposed coasts.

TONIGHT ... Misty or foggy at times, a little additional rain in a few places but only 1-3 mm at worst, lows about 12-14 C.

MONDAY ... Cloudy with sunny intervals, some localized heavy showers and risk of a thunderstorm, moderate west-southwest winds, highs 19-21 C.

TUESDAY ... More sunshine in the mix of cloud and sun, and fewer showers, some places will remain dry. Lows 10-13 C and highs 19-22 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Variable cloud, occasional showers developing, highs near 18 for most, 20 C inland southeast.

THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, risk of showers, highs near 20 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... The most likely outcome is for unsettled and near normal late June weather, with highs 19-22 C. There is still some chance of warmer conditions pushing into some parts of eastern or southern Ireland.

For BRITAIN, most of these trends will be similar (today's rain will spread in there during the day), but one major difference will occur around Thursday when much warmer air will try to push into southeastern England. This may only have the effect of producing thunderstorms rather than higher temperatures, which may be confined to nearby France, but here again, the uncertainty factor includes a chance of much warmer air spreading into some parts of England for a time. Although this may get pushed away by Friday, a lingering warm influence seems to persist within the generally unsettled westerly flow. This may set off more heavy thunderstorms in southern England at times next weekend and into the following week.

My local weather on Saturday was once again rather dismal, this is becoming a weekly feature. We had non-stop rain of varying intensity and about 25 mm in total. This is gradually turning into a foggy drizzle, or a drizzly fog. Some minor improvement is expected on Sunday. Meanwhile it remains quite dry and warm in the eastern parts of the continent.

Here's a sneak preview of two things that will be mentioned first thing tomorrow -- summer solstice is late in the day on Monday evening, and the full moon also takes place.

TODAY ... Cloudy with some sunny intervals developing, rain along the south coast should end later this morning, then further showers are possible moving into western and northern counties, with slight risk of thunder. Rather warm and humid with highs 18-21 C. Moderate west-southwest winds 30-50 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... Clear intervals, isolated showers ending. Lows 8-12 C.

TUESDAY ... Sunny with cloudy intervals, isolated showers. Highs 17-20 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Partly cloudy, a few showers developing, lows 8-11 C and highs 17-20 C.

THURSDAY ... Cloudy with showers, lows 9-12 C and highs 16-19 C.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY are likely to remain rather cloudy with just a few showers but some places may remain dry, and temperatures will remain near normal with highs near 19 or 20 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Slightly warmer but also rather cloudy with the risk of showers, highs 21-23 C.

Over in BRITAIN, today will be rather wet at times, with warm and humid conditions in the south, cooler and turning dry in the north. Most of the week will then be similar to the above except that Thursday could see a brief incursion of very warm, humid air from France (reaching southeast England and setting off thunderstorms in south central England and east Midlands).

My local weather on Sunday started out dull and mild with drizzle at times, then the sun came out by afternoon, highs reached 21 C. Warm and dry in eastern North America as severe storms advance towards Wisconsin and Michigan, severe heat over the southwest (Phoenix hit 47 C or 118 F on Sunday).

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Cloudy with some sunny breaks, occasional light showers then a somewhat heavier band of rain will spread gradually east from Atlantic coastal counties this afternoon. Overall rainfall amounts 3-7 mm for most, less near the south coast. Highs 16-18 C.

TONIGHT ... Clear intervals, lows 7-10 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Cloudy with sunny breaks, occasional light showers. Highs about 18 C.

THURSDAY ... Partly cloudy, a few showers, lows near 8 C and highs 18-20 C.

FRIDAY ... Mostly cloudy, isolated showers, lows near 8 C and highs 18-20 C.

SATURDAY ... Partly cloudy with longer sunny intervals in south and east, isolated showers west and north. Lows near 9 C and highs 19-21 C.

SUNDAY ... Occasional showers turning to a steady rain in some western and central counties, lows near 10 C and highs near 19 C.

OUTLOOK ... Monday to Wednesday of next week are looking somewhat warmer with a few sunny intervals each day, isolated showers and highs in the 21-23 C range. This may continue with a slight cooling trend later in the week.

Overall, the weather pattern is very bland and temperatures will remain very close to seasonal averages.

In BRITAIN, there may be heavier showers or a few thunderstorms by late Wednesday into Thursday as very warm air brushes past southeast England across France and Belgium. Although temperatures may be slightly warmer than in Ireland, the very warm air will stay over the continent for the time being; the warmer spell next week is more of a sunshine-dependent result of the Azores high making a weak effort to establish control, but the highest temperatures anywhere in southern Britain will likely remain 23-24 C at best. However, it will seem like a rather warm spell after all the cloud this week.

Meanwhile, my local weather on Monday was partly cloudy to overcast with blue skies off to the west and north, thicker cloud to the east. It remains brutally hot in the southwestern states, Needles California (on the Colorado River) hit 52 C or 125 F and Death Valley which is somewhat below sea level managed 126 F. Phoenix had to settle for 116 which was a daily record by one degree. The all-time highest at Phoenix is 122 F (50 C) and at Death Valley it once reached 134 F (57 C). I've been in Las Vegas when it was 115 F and find it hard to imagine anything hotter that one could survive. This heat is spreading out into the plains states and a modified version is reaching the Great Lakes and east coast (32-35 C there).

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Cloudy with a few sunny breaks, isolated showers. Highs 17-20 C.

TONIGHT ... Partly cloudy to overcast, light rain developing in west, lows 8-12.

THURSDAY ... Cloudy with showers, highs 17-20 C. About 5 mm of rain on average, as much as 10 mm in some central counties.

FRIDAY ... Variable cloud, showers mostly near south and west coasts, rather muggy. Lows 9-13 C and highs 18-21 C.

SATURDAY ... Frequent morning showers then a slow clearing trend, breezy and turning slightly cooler. Lows 9-11 C and highs 17-19 C.

SUNDAY ... Sunny intervals, isolated showers. Lows 8-10 C and highs 18-21 C.

OUTLOOK ... Rather warm next week, highs 20-23 C. Just a few isolated showers at first with some sunshine Monday and Tuesday, then a heavier band of rain likely on Wednesday 29th. This should clear east on Thursday but further showers will follow. The first third of July so far appears rather close to average on the charts.

Meanwhile, in northern France today there will be outbreaks of heavy rain and thunderstorms, in warm and humid conditions. These storms may spread into the southeast counties of England by tonight. Most of this activity will clear away on Thursday to leave a warm and partly sunny day in southern England with highs to 23-25 C, but then the Atlantic air will return there and trends past Thursday night will be similar to the above, except mid-week when heavier rain will affect mostly central and northern Wales, England.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast until mid-afternoon, then sunny for a time, with a high near 20 C. Severe heat continues in the southwestern and south central United States, with more average summer heat further east, although turning cooler in the Great Lakes region.

Forecasts for Ireland


TODAY ... Mostly cloudy, a few showers developing, with risk of thunder in some north-central counties, 5-15 mm rain likely (somewhat less near south coast). Highs 17-20 C.

TONIGHT ... Showers ending, partly cloudy with lows 8-11 C.

FRIDAY ... Mostly cloudy, outbreaks of light rain and moderate westerly winds, highs 16-19 C.

SATURDAY ... Morning showers then some clearing by afternoon, moderate west to northwest breezes, highs 18-21 C.

SUNDAY ... Increasing cloud, showers or intervals of light rain, lows 8-11 C and highs 17-20 C.

NEXT WEEK will bring little change in this pattern, although it could be slightly warmer at times, with highs 18-22 C. Guidance has not been very consistent on the timing of frontal passages but expect normal amounts of rainfall during the week. The first third of July continues to look rather bland too with near-average conditions.

Some heavy thunderstorms moved across the Channel overnight and hit parts of southeast England. These should clear out by mid-day and it will turn quite warm in southern England (22-24 C). Otherwise, they will have much the same weather regime from Friday onward.

TODAY ... Cloudy with showers and a few thunderstorms, some heavy downpours developing across central counties this morning spreading to the east coast by early afternoon, 10-20 mm and spot flooding likely. Highs about 16-19 C.

TONIGHT ... A few leftover showers, breezy and rather cool, lows 7-9 C.

SATURDAY ... Partly cloudy, just a few isolated showers, strong west to northwest breezes 40-60 km/hr, highs 16-18 C. In Paris for the NI-Wales match, occasional showers, about 17 C.

SUNDAY ... Early morning showers near west coast, then partial clearing, some sunshine during the day, a bit warmer again with highs 18-21 C. In Lyon for the Ireland-France game, mostly sunny and about 21-23 C, quite breezy from north (saw a picture of the stadium and perhaps it's a bit open to crosswinds too). Good luck to the Irish teams anyway.

MONDAY ... Partly cloudy, a few isolated showers, highs near 20 C. In Nice, for England vs Iceland it's likely to be warm and humid with thunderstorms possible over the nearby hills and around 27 C. In Paris for Italy-Spain, it will be overcast with showers possible and about 20 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... The rest of next week looks unsettled with occasional showery frontal passages. Highs will be close to 20-21 C for most, could reach 21-23 C near south coast with a bit of sunshine.

TODAY ... Rain this morning should end fairly soon in western counties, by mid-day in central counties and early afternoon near the east coast, after about 10 mm falls. It will become quite warm and humid with a few brighter intervals developing, and highs of 19-21 C (possibly 17-19 C east coast due to the later clearing). Moderate southwest to west winds 30-50 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy with a few light showers, lows 10-13 C.

MONDAY ... Partly cloudy, isolated showers with some places remaining dry, highs near 18 C.

TUESDAY ... Outbreaks of rain, heavier in south during the morning, then a slight clearing trend, highs 16-18 C.

OUTLOOK ... Further showers at times, rather cool mid-week then warming back towards 21 C later in the week. In general, the Azores high is trying to push into western Europe but it's being sheared off by persistent westerly flow around an Icelandic low. However, the day to day details are a bit of a mix of the two competing influences.

TODAY ... Partly cloudy to overcast, most places dry but a few isolated showers giving 1-2 mm in parts of the north-central counties, highs 17-19 C.

TONIGHT ... Rain moving into the south and parts of the west, 5-10 mm by morning, dry or lesser amounts further east. Lows 11-13 C.

TUESDAY ... Rain tapering off to showers across the south, while other regions will see passing showers and some brighter intervals, highs 15-17 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Showers or periods of rain developing, lows 11-13 C and highs 16-19 C.

THURSDAY ... Showers, breezy. Some brighter intervals. Highs 18-20 C.

FRIDAY ... Windy with showers, winds westerly 50-70 km/hr at times, highs around 19 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... This pattern seems set to continue for at least one more week, so expect showers on most days but some brighter intervals too, and temperatures either near normal or one to two degrees below early July averages (this more likely in the north).

THURSDAY ... A few showers, rain 2-5 mm on average, some sunny breaks in the mix, highs 17-20 C.

FRIDAY ... Breezy to windy, cool, a few showers. Winds west to northwest 50 to 70 km/hr at times. Lows 7-9 C and highs 15-18 C.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... Some dry spells on Saturday, highs 18-20 C. A few showers Saturday afternoon and evening may last through part of the night in eastern counties. Then variable cloud on Sunday, highs 18-20 C.

NEXT WEEK continues to look somewhat improved with temperatures possibly a few degrees higher into the low 20s with better amounts of sunshine in the mix, not entirely dry but more influenced by high pressure than this present spell.

Please note, I will be taking a long weekend away from the internet and returning to post a forecast on Tuesday 5th. During that time, perhaps you'll find some forecast updates from other Boards weather forum members. The new moon will occur during this period, on Monday 4th at one minute after noon Irish summer time.

TODAY ... Mostly cloudy with a few showers, but less blustery than Friday and feeling a bit milder too, highs 15-18 C. Rainfalls generally about 2-5 mm. Winds westerly 40-60 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... A few clear intervals, ground fog or mist by early morning, and lows 7-10 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, only a few isolated showers, quite a few places should remain dry and highs will reach 18-20 C.

MONDAY ... Cloudy, rather humid, rain developing across parts of the north mainly with 10-15 mm potential there, highs 15-17 C north, 18-20 C south, gusty southwest winds for a time near south and west coasts.

TUESDAY ... Sunny intervals, warmer. Lows 7-10 C and highs 19-22 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Increasing cloud, rain developing in west, highs 17-21 C warmest in Leinster and east Munster.

THURSDAY ... Showers, highs near 18 C. Windy at times.

FRIDAY ... Partly cloudy, showers, highs near 18 C.

OUTLOOK ... The maps look a bit improved this morning, but I would like to see this trend maintained for three or four days before really getting off the fence -- I recall that some ten-day outlooks for the past few days were a lot warmer than it actually turned out. So having said that, I will mention that the charts currently suggest slightly warmer weather than we've been forecasting the past few days, for the weekend of 9th-10th and the week following. It would at least return to more normal mid-July temperatures with highs close to 20-21 C.

My local weather on Friday was cloudy to start, and sunny by afternoon, with a fairly bland high of about 21 C. My time away will be up into north-central parts of B.C. and some severe storms are possible late this afternoon local time (about midnight there), if I see anything active, I will take pictures for later sharing.

TODAY ... Mostly dry with sunny spells from time to time. Isolated showers in the north. Temperatures close to normal, 15-18c. Winds westerly 10-25 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... Dry for a time but patchy rain will develop along Atlantic coastlines later in the night with lows of 7-10c.

MONDAY ... Mostly cloudy with showers. Showers will be more frequent in the east and north whilst the south could have longer dry intervals. Rainfall totals could hit 15mm in places. Very cool for July in the north ranging from 12-19c (north to south).

TUESDAY ... A dry day countrywide with sunny spells from time to time but cloud could well linger in places. Temperatures will be close to normal from 15-18c generally.

WEDNESDAY ... Very humid with sunny intervals in the morning but cloud will increase and rain will push across the country overnight, highs 15-22 C.

THURSDAY ... Quite cloudy day with spells of patchy rain in the west but the possibility of hazy sunshine in the east, highs 16-21c.

OUTLOOK ... There is quite a bit of uncertainty with a band of rain at the end of the week. At the moment, it looks like Friday could potentially be a very wet day and after this brief warmer interval during mid-week, it looks like temperatures will drop unfortunately back down to below average values during the coming weekend.

Forecast for Ireland.

TODAY ... Rain in the northwest will become widespread this morning, with some heavy and possibly thundery bursts in places. But it will turn more showery this afternoon, some showers may be heavy, but some sunny spells will develop also. Top temperatures 13 to 15c, in northern areas, 17 to 19c, elsewhere, best over south Munster. Breezy in places also.

TONIGHT ... Dry with clear spells and with moderate to fresh northwesterly breezes decreasing light to moderate. Temperatures 7 to 10c.

TUESDAY ... Bright with a mix of sunny spells and occasional cloudy periods. A few showers over Ulster in the morning, but otherwise dry. Top temperatures 14 to 19c, best over south Leinster and south Munster.

WEDNESDAY ... Mild and increasingly humid. Mainly dry and bright over Leinster and east Munster, with some hazy sunshine at times and temperatures of 18 or 19c. More overcast and misty elsewhere, with some rain and drizzle. But much of this should become confined to Ulster and north Connacht by evening. Temperatures in these areas of 15 or 16c.

TODAY ... Rather cloudy at first, then some sunny spells likely at least in the southern half of the country, and reasonably warm at 18-20 C.

TONIGHT ... Mostly dry, could see light rain near northwest coasts towards dawn, and lows 8-10 C.

WEDNESDAY ... Cloudy with a few brighter intervals in southeast, occasional light rain edging onto western coasts during the day but probably staying dry for most. Highs 18-21 C.

THURSDAY ... A few showers, then variable cloud, lows 7-9 C and highs 17 to 19 C.

FRIDAY ... Occasional showers, highs near 18 C.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... Slightly below normal temperatures, although mostly cloudy there won't be large amounts of rain in general. Highs near 18 C.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... The following week looks about the same with a few dry and reasonably warm days to start, one or perhaps two wet days to follow around mid-week, with a slight fall in temperatures at that point, and back to a dry end of the week, with near normal temperatures on average (not far from 19-21 C).

Thanks to various folks who pitched in and continued the forecast thread while I enjoyed some time away, the weather was generally not good but luckily it stopped raining on the two or three occasions when we wanted to be outside. Where we were it turned a lot colder and I think perhaps record cold in the daytime at only 10 degrees today when we were driving home. Back here it wasn't a lot warmer, perhaps 15 C in mostly cloudy weather.

TODAY ... Mostly cloudy, with a few brighter intervals in the southeast, rather warm and humid. Highs 19-21 C.

TONIGHT ... Cloudy, a few showers or intervals of light rain, mild. Lows 12-15.

THURSDAY ... Cloudy with a few sunny breaks, once again rather warm and humid with scattered showers developing, highs 19-21 C.

FRIDAY ... Variable cloud, some passing showers, all of the rainfall to this point amounting to only 1-3 mm in many places, lows 10-13 C and highs about 20 C.

SATURDAY ... Rather warm with gusty southwest winds 50-70 km/hr, with a risk of heavier showers or thunderstorms developing, lows 11-15 C and highs 19-22 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, isolated showers then clearing, fresher in moderate westerly winds 40-60 km/hr. Lows 8-11 C and highs 17-19 C.

MONDAY ... Breezy and rather cool with passing showers, highs about 17 C.

TUESDAY into WEDNESDAY ... There may be a rather strong disturbance passing near or over Ireland in this time frame bringing the risk of locally heavy rainfalls and gusty southwest winds at least for the south coastal counties. Temperatures may be fairly cool except for any southern locations that get into a warmer sector.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Right out as far as the guidance goes, the pattern stays fairly similar, the mid-week disturbance next week excepted, as the rest of the long-range time frame looks "in between" settled and truly unsettled, about midway between ideal and poor summer weather, so fairly typical July conditions.

These trends are generally similar for most of BRITAIN and northern France also. Temperatures will be generally speaking quite close to July average values and possibly within a degree higher than average for some.

My local weather continues to be very poor for July in these parts, we are making up for all the fine weather we had in the spring apparently. Tuesday was overcast with occasional heavy showers and the high was about 19 C. Severe storms are moving through the western Great Lakes overnight and may affect parts of Michigan and Ontario later today.

SATURDAY ... Windy (SW 50-70 km/hr at times) with a few showers, risk of a thunderstorm, possibly some heavy rain around mid-day across parts of the east, quite warm. Lows about 13 C and highs about 22 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, showers, breezy and fresher with highs near 19 C, winds westerly 40-60 km/hr.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will be somewhat cooler (17-18 C) with passing showers in moderate west to northwest winds.

WEDNESDAY will start out warmer and dry, with the risk of strong winds and heavy showers or even thunderstorms developing late overnight into Thursday, highs near 21 C both days. Further unsettled and possibly stormy weather will follow as the first system fades and is replaced by a strong front arriving around late Friday or early Saturday (16th).

The further outlook continues to look relatively warm with temperatures either on the mid-July normals or slightly above (20-23 C).

MONDAY and TUESDAY will be partly cloudy and somewhat cooler (17-18 C) with passing showers in moderate west to northwest winds.

Local downpours of 10-15 mm could cause brief road flooding. Partial clearing will follow although with the continued risk of a shower or thunderstorm from later forming cells. Warm and humid with highs of 19-22 C. Occasionally moderate southwest winds gusting to 60 km/hr.

TONIGHT ... A few residual showers, breezy, lows 10-13 C.

SUNDAY ... Partly cloudy, occasional showers, not quite as warm, moderate westerly backing to southerly breezes. Highs 18-20 C.

SUNDAY NIGHT into MONDAY ... heavy showers returning, gusty winds veering to west then northwest, about 10-15 mm rain for some. Lows about 9 or 10 C and highs on Monday 17-18 C in moderate northwest winds about 50-70 km/hr.

TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will continue rather cool and partly cloudy with northwest breezes and highs near 18 C.

THURSDAY will bring a few showers or periods of rain to the west and north, sunny intervals in south, highs near 20 C.

OUTLOOK for FRIDAY 15th to SUNDAY 17th calls for a warmer spell with highs 21-24 C. Some heavy rain may edge towards Atlantic coasts before overspreading all regions late in the weekend.
