I don't think I've ever woken up with something scary...

I have had that horrible falling feeling and that waking me up... pretty terrifying at the time.

staying in a mates house after a night out, woke up on the camp bed in his living room with his crazy house mate and his mates coming home around 6am - so I pulled the blanket over my head and went back to sleep. seems they went cracked after i went back to sleep - woke up with a butcher knife stuck through the pillow beside my face. they also sliced up their atm cards and had knifes stuck in the walls ala darts style. they couldn't remember anything and we found one asleep on graften st around 10am. decided not to stay over again.

housemate in my bedroom one night staring at me after being away for over a month in hospital after signing herself in due to "issues". I threw my slipper at her and went back to sleep -only realised it was her the next morning. could have been someone robbing the place! think that would have been better as things turned out!

Also more weird than scary - a few months ago woke up with a Magpie standing on my leg. Took a few frantic minutes waking up with said bird fluttering around house trying to get rid of it before I realised I wasn't in a David Lynch movie...

Had a few mad moments waking up alright, similar to the above, once woke up to a crow sitting on the window ledge roaring right at me! freaked me out!

Also once woke up to a visage of an old man standing in the room staring right at me, scared the sweet jaysus outta me, what scared me more was I jumped out of bed thinking the house was being robbed and it vanished!!! seriously, freaked me out for many a month =/

Scariest thing for me is waking up and and realising I've taken a few drugs and the effects are still there and I can't go back to sleep. Bah.

I've got the dog staring at me too.

Woke up once with my room full of thousands of bees. They had been nesting just under the gutters outside my window and had come in through the air vent in my room during the night, the fuckers were everywhere, even walking on my face. Took me about 20 minutes to get up walk the 3 feet to the door cos I was moving so slowly in case they went for me. Scary stuff that

The dog recently licked me in the face to wake me up one day and it scared the crap out of me, another time there was a spider on my leg, bbut I am sure these are tame in comparison to the folks out there experience.....care to share?

Pictures and crudely drawn artists impersonations welcome

    PS, it's been a slow day :o

9/11. By a long, long shot. I was in New York that morning/day and was awoken to be told I wasn't going home that day as a plane had crashed into the Twin Towers to which I duly replied 'feck off' and went back to sleep. Awoken whatever amount of time later to be told another plane crashed in got up and mumbled to the person waking me that I'd kill them for doing this (I was not long in bed). Then silence, deep ineffable silence as I saw the tv screen in the sittingroom.

I had passed the Twin Towers at 4am on the way back from Baltimore and over the George Washington Bridge. I was meant to go down to Amsterdam Avenue that morning to collect my tickets from the USIT office as I had changed my tickets to come back to Ireland early and was due to fly back from Newark that afternoon, 11 Sept 2001. Amazing, amazing day. An amazing few days, to be honest.

I didn't fly out until the 15th September 2001 - and then from JFK. I remember an airline (Sabina?) went bust and a guy in JFK went ballistic screaming at the receptionist as he had spent most of the day travelling through the enormous traffic jams (and unspeakable fear of another attack) only to be told when he arrived in JFK that he was not going anywhere as his airline had closed down. He started screaming and a whole slew of armed cops/military were on top of him. I felt so, so sorry for the poor man.

It's amazing how much one can learn about the human condition during such times. Extraordinary.

Once woke up and spent a full minute wondering where I was and trying to remember how I got there. The unsettling part was I was home in my own bed. It was during a christmas period of 26 shifts and 29 piss-ups so my head was a bit fried.....

I once fell asleep in a less than sober state at my friend's house on a mattress on the floor. I woke up after a while to see what looked like wooden bars from the bottom of his bed literally right in front of my eyes. I yelled for a second as I thought that I had woken up in a prison cell. :o

One night I had fallen asleep with a really bad cold. When I woke up I felt a hand on my forehead. I assumed that it was my concerned mother checking my temperature so I asked her if she was there. No reply, so I moved my head a little bit and then felt what felt like this disembodied hand rolling and sliding down my forehead and face. Turned out that I had slept on my arm that night, rendering it numb and then it had stopped on my forehead after some sickness-induced stirring. Scared the living shit out of me.

Having a big, fat lad who I didn't know bending over me, shaking me, asking if he could "borrow a Johnnie?".

    Two more stories
    1. The first time I woke up with my arm gone numb, I panicked, and started banging it off the wall - frantically trying to get feeling back.

    2. I went to sleep once and didn't dream. At all. It was like I blinked away eight hours. The thing was, I woke up facing a different way.
So in one flutter of my eyelids I suddenly 'teleported' so that I was facing the different way.

Oh yeah, is that when you dream you're falling and you wake up with your heart beating? Someone told me once that it's your bodies way of speeding up your heart rate which might have slowed too much while you were sleeping. Creepy.

Woke up in a hotel room to find a strange man at the side of the bed with his hand under the duvet trying to feel me up. Took a few seconds to cope on what was happening. He had somehow got into the room. Scary ****e.

Bolted awake to the sound of my name being whispered to me .. nobody from my family was in my room at the time.

    It shook me somethin terrible.

I've had plenty of those times when you dart awake because you think you have hit the ground in a dream, also plenty of those unexplained noises too.
