I get really annoyed when people get offended when I pass a remark about someone neither of us know.

For example, today we had a client in from a gym and she was pretty overweight, not a good poster child for the gym, and I flippantly said "Oh, it's yer one from the gym, the big fat one" Now, I didn't say it to her or when she was in the same building as me, but one of the girls got really offended by this. It wasn't said with malice or spite, and I didn't say it about the person who got offended. She has no place to be annoyed

    Agreed. Funny article from stuffwhitepeoplelike.com
To be offended is usually a rather unpleasant experience, one that can expose a person to intolerance, cultural misunderstandings, and even evoke the scars of the past. This is such an unpleasant experience that many people develop a thick skin and try to only be offended in the most egregious and awful situations. In many circumstances, they can allow smaller offenses to slip by as fighting them is a waste of time and energy. But white people, blessed with both time and energy, are not these kind of people. In fact there are few things white people love more than being offended.

Naturally, white people do not get offended by statements directed at white people. In fact, they don’t even have a problem making offensive statements about other white people (ask a white person about “flyover states”). As a rule, white people strongly prefer to get offended on behalf of other people.

It is also valuable to know that white people spend a significant portion of their time preparing for the moment when they will be offended. They read magazines, books, and watch documentaries all in hopes that one day they will encounter a person who will say something offensive. When this happens, they can leap into action with quotes, statistics, and historical examples. Once they have finished lecturing another white person about how it’s wrong to use the term “black” instead of “African-American,” they can sit back and relax in the knowledge that they have made a difference.

White people also get excited at the opportunity to be offended at things that are sexist and/or homophobic. Both cases offering ample opportunities for lectures, complaints, graduate classes, lengthy discussions and workshops. All of which do an excellent job of raising awareness among white people who hope to change their status from “not racist” to “super not racist.”

Another thing worth noting is that the threshold for being offended is a very important tool for judging and ranking white people. Missing an opportunity to be outraged is like missing a reference to Derrida-it’s social death.

If you ever need to make a white person feel indebted to you, wait for them to mention a book, film, or television show that features a character who is the same race as you, then say “the representation of <insert race> was offensive and if you can’t see that, well, you need to do some soul searching.” After they return from their hastily booked trip to land of your ancestors, they will be desperate to make it up to you. At this point, it is acceptable to ask them to help you paint your house.

    Ha!!

I just don't get people who get offended about something you said about someone who they don't know!

Maybe some people LOVE their high horse

When people change there reason for saying something when they know it hasn't gone down well and then get offended when people challege them

For example, a girl I used to work with says one day "white guys shouldnt wear pink" - when one of the guys (who was funnily enough wearing a pink shirt that day) replied and clearly wasn't too happy - she blamed it on her religion - "that a man would be consider strange if he wore pink"!

Same girl said alcohol is pretty much the root of all evil bla bla bla - when people reacted to say that whoa not everyone who enjoys alcohol is a raging alcoholic - she blamed it on her religion..

AHHHHH :mad: like stick to your principles if you don't like guys wearing pink fair enough; if you don't like alcohol fair enough; but stick to your original point that it was your opinion and not in your fricking religion!

When people say "No offence but....."

I think secretly they mean to offend - hence the purpose of the statement that follows!!

When some black people are called 'coloured' it offends them because it makes them feel different.

Japanese porn. I don't see what's so offensive about thousands of hours of bondage porn, rape porn, utensil-rape porn, food-rape porn, frozen-food-rape porn, vomit-enema porn, elder-care-coma-patient-rape porn, live-eel anal porn and bukkake.
    Link? :D

A lot of white Irish people suffered slavery back in medieval times. Plenty of native Chieftans and Kings had their slaves. My surname wouldn't particularly be considered a wealthy Irish surname-not like McCarthy et al-so by that logic my ancestors could very possibly have been slaves.

Now, just trying to figure out what to take my new found offence to-me being called white? Irish? Gaelic? By my poor surname???Racists the lot of ye.....

nope not offended actually find them quite hilarious.

another one that people get offended by is when someone asks can you keep a secret and you say yes and you write down word for word what they say to text everybody.

Really now who the hell can keep a secret especially when the topic is definitely of interest to people otherwise it wouldn't need to be a secret now would it

You are ripping the piss with this one, aren't you?

This happens to me probably more than most, if someone asks my opinion on something (new clothes, picture material things) I give my honest opinion, if I don't like it I'll say it and if I do like it I'll say it. There is one person that no matter what I say they get offended, normally if I do like it they don't believe me and if I don't they end up ignoring me for ages. Lately they have been saying that I don't think before I talk all for being honest to them when they ask for my opinion.

I also remember in primary school(6th class) now this was about 12 years ago there were no black people in the town at the time. Someone brought up the thing of black/coloured most of the class were following one of the bossy girls(who was English and 'knew some coloured people back home') she insisted on calling them coloured. At one point I was the only one that thought black was better than coloured so I asked what was so bad about calling them black when that's what they were, all she could say was because it was offencive, I asked for an expanation as to why it was offencive she couldn't give me one. I then said that coloured was worse becasue we go through more colours when we're sick we are pale sunburnt, embarressed. In the end she was really annoied that have the class had then decided that black was alright to use (her friends of course stuck with her). Thankfully she didn't talk to me for the rest of the year but she never really liked me anyway.

White people did suffer slavery. There isn't loads of people living in Barbados now with Irish surnames because our ancestors got cheap package holidays out there in the 1600's.

And btw most (if not all) African slaves were sold into slavery BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE so if you ever get some guff off an "African American" telling you how 'whitey' has been keeping him down then be sure to tell him who set the ball rolling in the first place.

There's some dumb feminist on a blog and she's trying to convince people that not liking kids is totally the same as racism and homophobia!

Whatever, kids grow up, but peoples' race will never change

    //Wavylines Wavylines

A few years back, just after Sin City came out the snooker was on. I noticed that Peter Ebdon bore a striking resemblance to That Yellow B*stard from Sin City in his photo.

I thought this was hi-larious. I was telling anyone and everyone whenever the photo came up. Cue mild amusement all around.

One day our good friend came around to the flat for a cuppa and up came the picture.

"Dan, Dan, look! It's That Yellow B*stard!"

Dan looked ashen and was dumbstruck. I know he's quiet but was he really offended by such a common swear word?

    No he was not.

What I failed to realise is that Dan had not seen Sin City (nor read the book) and didn't get the reference.

What I also failed to notice is that Peter Ebdon was playing this fella in that match:

    OOOoooooOOO

Yer one sounds like another example of somebody desperate to be offended by something, anything, so they can rant about it and feel good about themselves.

People who get offended when someone points out that men and women are not the same; men generally have advantages at doing certain things and vice versa.
