I just saw that the bikes and tree are gone:) Fareplay to who ever moved them. I am sick of looking at the since last summer. I just hope who ever put them there does not make it a habit. Who left the tree and the bikes, i am sure are from the same person.
I also would be willing to get a clean up going soon because the place could do with it. Thank you to who moved the tree and bikes. :)]

    ;)
maybe we could organise something like another cleanup but ultimately we just need people to start being responsible for their own mess
I agree with you completely. There's too many people that seem to think the rubbish picks up itself

    Hi all,

I'm just sending this quick email around on behalf of one the residents that has been trying to get Owenass back to fix the flaky communal walls around the estate. In short, they aren't going to fix them. BUT, thanks to the efforts of Emer, they are willing to supply the paint so we can repair them ourselves. Can you all spread the word please and reply to this mail, on facebook, or on boards.ie if you want to get some paint and/or lend a hand to get the place looking right again.

Secondly, I'm sure you've all seen the bin collections have been far from consistent over the past few weeks. It turns out that the council are no longer letting the private waste collectors collect more general waste bins than recycling bins per month. So the bins are now being collected fortnightly. They claim to have put notices on the bins last November informing us of this but I certainly got no warning and the state of the place leads me to believe most others didn't either.

Its sad to see the estate so littered again so perhaps another clean up day is in order. If people are interested in this can they, again, reply to this email, post on facebook or the esker hills thread on boards.

    That's it for now folks,

    Adam

It looks like they've put up shelves in the shop too :)

I have been fighting to get the walls sorted out as well. They have plastered the wall at the back of our house (entrance to former building compound) and we are more than willing to paint it if they give us the paint - and enough paint to do the job properly!!

    Hey Adam.
Fancy a date tomorrow?(sat) we can collect some rubbish.
They are working in the shop now. I heard a rumour it will specialise in hovercraft.

I was going to knock into you/ask you up anyway :) If you want to go picking up some rubbish I'll just bring a few cans and supervise ha ha ha

For anyone that's interested, there's a discussion about organising a clean up day on the Esker Hills Facebook page.
Info about a clean up (when its arranged) will be posted here, on FB and sent via email to the Esker Hills mailing list.

For those not on FB, feel free to post here

    Adam :)

Well it's that time of year again..."Clean Up Laois Week"... and as we have done for the last 2 years, we're organising a clean up day for the estate.

So, I hope to see you all at the estate entrance at 12pm on Saturday April 9th. We're registering with the council so they're going to be providing us with bags, gloves, litter pickers etc, as well as taking the rubbish away. However, as we've learned over the last 2 years, the supplies from the council run out VERY quickly so, to be safe, can people please bring any bags and gloves that you may have to spare.

I think we can all agree that the estate badly needs it!

Hey Ann. The guy cutting the grass seemed to have a vendetta with your daffodils.

  • Registered Users Posts: 849 ✭✭✭adser53

Does anyone know who got/paid him to do the grass??
It was hardly the council or the apartment's maintenance contractor?

    Hi Guys.
Does anybody know what kind of slate is used on the roof?
    Is it a standard style/size?
    Cheers,
    JP.

I'm not sure of the brand/make but I'm nearly 99% sure they're a standard size. If you get into the attic and try peel (don't rip it) back the felt where it's cut for the tile vents (i.e where the toilet extract vents go out) you might see the manufacturers name on the underside of the slates

I was the same this morning but went out sweeping this afternoon. Still need to get rid of the grass at the base of the trees.
I suppose if everyone did a bit it would be a great help:)

There were about 30 people altogether that gave a hand plus the few that were out looking after their own patch so it was a success and the place looks much better.

As for the green at the entrance, a retired couple living in an entirely different part of the estate paid out of their own pocket for it to be cut. Shameful that it came to that IMO

God, that's not right! Can there be something done to reimburse them? It is not fair to have a situation like that when we all benefit from it. Is there anything we can do to ensure that it does not happen again? What's the chances of a collection to get money for cutting for the summer? I know it's not an easy task to organise it.

What's "Hooda"? I caught a glimpse of this as I passed by the new shop on the way in from work this evening. I was expecting to see Gala or Centra on the shop eventually but who or what is Hooda? Did I see it right??

No idea what "Hooda" is, but they're opening this Friday, apparently.

Ya, I saw that notice yesterday. I hope it goes well for them. Not the best time to be starting out but if they get the support it should do fairly well. Would still love to know who they are though. Is it a chain or are they independent?

i tried to google the name but nothing came up so its not a chain!
Will be very handy for the bread and milk.

I heard the lad opening it has one or two shops around the place...Carlow or Kilkenny I think. It'll be dead handy when it opens!

Sure will! And just when I'd planned to try and give up smoking - wouldn't you know!:D

Just used hooda for the first time. Nice to have a shop at long last.
Maybe I have become accustomed to the franchise type shops with marketing and signage but it seems like hooda is amateurish. Feels like the shelves are half empty. Still they have a few specials and much better fruit Section than I had expected.

I was expecting a leaflet through the door's a few special offers etc to get the ball rolling but things seemed very quiet down there when I passed by. Its great to have it though, might stroll down tomorrow for the paper :) hopefully the half empty shelves are only a temporary snag on opening day
