It doesn't worry me. It's just something that popped into my alcohol-wilted brain this morning.

I always thought it was a bit odd too tbh. Also LOL at IO pointing out internet procrastination :D

Some lecturers may be evil, but surely not so much that they should be compared with Fianna Fáil!

It might be a good idea to just stroll into the staff area with your lunch someday... I don't think there's any sign on the door about it. Plonk yourself down between Peadar Cremin and EW and start complaining about the price of the lasagne!

    Hi folks!

Just thought that you would be interested to know that we now have a direct link to the Mary I Sticky on boards.ie on our website. Heres hoping it will get more MIC students involved and bring us one step closer to our own forum!

Cheap, mass-produced, long-lasting ingredients => sacrificing healthy eating for greater profit margins. That would be my guess, anyway!

You're all about the canteen faust, aren't you :P You should open your own one, with blackjack! And hookers! Actually, forget the blackjack...

D4RK one, I hope you're sitting down when you read this. Something awful has happened in the canteen. The once flawless range of smoothies available at the deli counter has lost the jewel in its crown, the cherry on its icing, the TJP Show of its weekly schedule.

The Choc-Shock smoothie is no longer being offered there :(

    /me faints again

WHAT IS THIS SH*T?! This is an outrage, a travesty, call Bob Geldof, call Bono! The chock shock is an institution! BRING IT BACK!

It's a pity the message of the protest in Dublin today was lost because of the actions of a few members of the crowd.

Radical Socialists, apparently. They were spotted early on trying to get to the front of the march.

I hope that 'charity week' becomes the new name for RAG week. (See survey on www.misu.ie). It might help people realise that it's meant to be about more than alcohol and making lots of noise. (I'm not trying to be negative in saying that btw).

That said, the other option 'HOT week' has a ring to it. For that reason it'll probably win.

Now I think of it, it probably won't make a difference what it's called. There's a good chance everybody will still call it RAG week!

I think that'll be the case alright!

On another note, 500 sheets of printing paper, a lot of ink and several flashcards and charts later, I've come up with a proposal for Mary I. STOP KILLING THE ENVIRONMENT AND ALLOW T.P. FOLDERS TO BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY. I don't see why supervisors can't have laptops and each student is required to have their lesson plans on a memory stick (with the same folders/subfolders as in the physical ring binders).

Does anyone else think this is a reasonable idea?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭dambarude

Certain supervisors would have difficulty with that proposal I'm sure- the non-lecturer ones in particular.

Good idea though. TP costs a fortune. I'm afraid to think of what Home TP costs.

Personally I prefer physical copies of lesson plans for last minute checks, but if your proposal was implemented it would be my own decision to print, rather than a requirement.

If iPads had USB capabilities they'd be ideal for supervisors under your plan!

I was expecting it to be expensive... but not THIS expensive! Even getting decent T.P. clothes alone is expensive in itself (and I shopped in Penney's, that's saying something), then there's going to be a couple of ink cartridges, photocopying, chart paper, random resources, laminating sheets, coloured paper, PETROL! And if I could buy energy and sleep, then I would without hesitation!!

TBH when it comes to TP time I begin to forget the price tags on things, there's usually enough to be worrying about without thinking of how much money you're spending. I've been lucky so far in that I was able to spend money on TP stuff, but not everybody has that luxury. The way things have gone it's a bit much for the college to expect the amount of singing and dancing resources that TP involves.

I presume Home TP is very bad regarding the preparation:sleep ratio? It must take ages to prepare a lesson plan/resources for every single lesson.

You presumed correctly! It was ok this week as I had prepared almost everything over the midterm. However, I've nothing done for the other weeks - didn't have the time or energy so now I have Saturdays and Sundays to try and squeeze in what it took me 9 days of the midterm to do... Bye bye sleep!

That's a scary prospect. I found two weeks of teaching half days on infant TP bad enough! I guess some satisficing will have to be done!

Oh the psychology jargon! Although, yes, it'll have to be done alright. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a perfectionist about certain things on T.P.

I should have referenced that statement!

I'm a victim of the perfectionism condition too. I don't tend to do any satisficing at all, which results in very little time for luxuries like sleep on TP:rolleyes:

I got an average of four hours sleep on Home TP. It put me off teaching altogether.

Just want to say RIP to the bus driver who died yesterday evening on the N17 while driving students to Limerick. It is a terrible loss. I won't name him here, but students from Mayo/Galway travelling to Limerick with Corduff Coaches will know that he really was a gentleman. RIP.

Where would they put a Starbucks?
The only place I can see that is free is the prefabs...

Please don't tell me they're putting them in the prefabs:eek:
