Apologies if this has already been asked, I can't see it in the past posts, buuuut...

Anyone know when timetables are up?

Also BIG THANKS to everyone who helped me with applying for my recheck (dambarude and MISU, ye legends :)), i was brought up one grade, which added 0.03 to my qca. Not much but I'm now that little bit closer to a first class honours :D

Just a quick Question for MISU..I havent paid my fees yet cos i was away all last week and was going to wait til the day of registration on tuesday. They mentioned something about a collection box i duno! Will this affect my place i have secured for the B.Ed??

and also when can we move in to city campish?? :)

No, you should be fine with paying your fees next week during orientation...Also I am pretty sure you can move into City Campus now but have to give them notice of your arrival to get your key... And it's not all that camp-ish..

    Hey..! :D
I'm starting the B.Ed in Mary I in the next few days but the thing is I'm not 18 for a few months and I'm just wondering what kind of nightlife I can expect in Limerick..?

I've been losing sleep over the matter cause I absolutely love socialising (not too much for the B.Ed though :p) and hate to think I'd be left out because of my lack of years..:(

A question I'd like to know the answer to. Some time this week I suppose. They're always late enough putting them up, despite the fact that timetable stays nearly exactly the same year in year out. I suppose more calibration will have to be done with the rooms in the new building this year- they might be even slower with them!

That's great to hear, well done:).

Must try and do that with my ped. op. grade this week or next. It's probably a hopeless cause at this stage but seeing as I have all of my corrected exam/projects, they might have a look.

Not to worry, alwayswright; quite a lot of my friends were underage when they started at Mary I and only very rarely got refused from any clubs. Pubs were never a problem and the majority of clubs were just looking for college ID rather than an age card. (Mary I college ID doesn't have your DOB). It shouldn't hold you back too much!

Eh... This won't be the OFFICIAL answer cos I'm fairly the S.U. - or anyone else for that matter - can't condone underage entry to clubs and stuff, but it all depends on how good you are at talking your way out of situations! :D

Some places like Molly's (it's a late bar on three levels - some say it's a last resort but others swear by it) put a little more emphasis on college I.D. Basically, if you look old enough, are (somewhat) sober and can explain away your lack of Garda I.D. (driving licences generally don't cut it cos they're easily faked, and Tesco operate a strict "no licences" policy if you try to buy alcohol there) they might let you in.

Other places, like Angel Lane or Trinity Rooms (much bigger clubs where the majority of the crowd go) are stricter and you've really got little chance unless you're exceptionally adept at getting around bouncers! ;)

That being said though, there's no point in losing sleep over it! You've got at least another two (possibly three) years in the place. A few months missed is only a drop in the ocean really! :D

And to cover myself, I don't condone underage entry either... ;)

OR if you're one of the cool kids who is like WAY too awesome to be seen in Trooms or that other hole, you should be grand going to Costellos or Baker's Place. I don't think I've ever been checked going in there.

Should have mentioned them too! You can thank Onion for bringing them up cos they'd have slipped my mind completely. Haven't been out in Limerick since well before exams and T.P. (some time near the start of April...) and I'm a bit of a sheep when it comes to going out anyway unfortunately... :o

Monday night of RAG Week in Costello's was the best night of the whole week though, so you should definitely see what it's like. Can't do any harm! :D On the topic of pubs/places the majority don't go, Orientation Week usually has an event or two in Bentley's. It's a great place for a drink or two, but it's often forgotten about. We organised a post-T.P. party in there and it was brilliant! On the Dock Road, you've got Clem Smith's and Dolan's (both upstairs and the Warehouse) so you're well sorted really!

Firstly, in relation to timetables. They have yet to be released and no date has been given as to when they will be released. Although usually they are released around the Friday before term begins, it can vary from year to year. And as has been pointed out, the new building obviously increases the number of rooms available so they have to be considered for the timetabling of classes this year, unlike previous years, which somewhat prolongs the process.

xxcocochanelxx, your place definitely won't be in jeopardy no. You'll be able to get your fees paid over Orientation/early Week 1.

boomkatalog, well done on the grade increase, fair play!

And yes, Mary I has its own Freshers' Week. That's not to say UL's doesn't overlap with ours or vice versa. The details of Freshers' Week will be made available to you this week and next!

No harm at all to check it out. That's what life is all about. However in my opinion I always thought it was a bit of a kip.
Also the Glo Party in Angel lane was the best night of Rag Week. But then that is just my humble opinion and who am I to have an opinion.

Is lan access closed, or have passwords been reset?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭dambarude

You're password needs to be reset I'd say- mine's the same. I can't get into my student mail or the LAN.

Looking to get a head start on lecture notes are you?;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭Tragedy

Was trying to get access to see if timetables had been posted there, then noticed you already linked them but was curious why it wasn't working! ;)

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 2,503 Mod ✭✭✭✭dambarude

Does anybody know how to work this yoke? It's meant to let you change your password, but it won't work for me. I'm guessing that using the domain 'student' should work, but I still can't change my password using it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the domain is "student". Perhaps MIC might work?

Thanks Onion, but that doesn't work either. I get same message- Error: Object required.

I guess I'll just have to wait to til next week to get on the revolutionary student interface that is the LAN!

We actually don't have a lecture without the word psychology in the title until Thursday after lunch! Other than that, it seems like a decent enough week! :D Could've done without the nine start on Monday though. Five semesters in a row now...

@dambarude By any chance are you going to go to different Sociology of Education and Philosophy of Education lectures? I wouldn't mind being able to go home at two on Thursdays! :D And we've so much free time slots we could surely manage it!

Well that Philosophy lecture sticks out like a
    sore_thumb.gif
on Fridays so I've been doing some investigating (ie looking at the 2nd B.Ed timetable:p).

I think the earliest we can move Philosophy to is 3 on Thursday, and leave Sociology as it is (there's no other lecture we can move to, they're all on on Thurs afternoon or Friday morning). That'd give us Fridays off. They can hardly expect us to come in on Friday anyway can they?! We're usually scattered to the four corners of Ireland at that stage!

I just hope that whoever our class rep is can get that lecture moved semi officially. I hated the slobbering that was going on with English language/drama last year.

Just did the same thing myself!

Can't reasonably see why they wouldn't let us. They're both with full groups in similar sized rooms (from what I could see on the video tour thingy) so doubt there'll be any problems! They never do say no anyway...

Welcome to Mary I. :D You're gonna love the nightlife in Limerick, there's always a good buzz about the place.

I didn't turn 18 until March of first year, and only once was i refused entry (although i wasn't exactly sober) and that was from Trinity. Icon never asked me for more than my student I.D, Mollies once or twice asked me for Garda I.D, i just gave them a bit of blarney about having left it in Kerry and sure wasn't I an awful spa blah blah blah, and all i got was "go on, bring it next time". Flash of the pearly whites and in you go. ;) The lodge usually wouldn't ask for more than student I.D, and I've been told they often refuse people with Garda I.D who don't have a student I.D.

Of course, for some unknown reason *cough* bouncers are far more lenient with girls. But anyone with a bit of talk in them will get in no bother.

    Hope you enjoy it. :D

Do I have to register on the internet or something? Or do I just go down on thursday and pay my registration fee and hop in? :D I'm doing BA btw :)

Online registration usually takes place in the first week of the semester, ie next week.

Hi sugajay, it' the MISU Office here - we're the Mary I Students' Union. You'll know us well by the end of Orientation Week!

The college have been packing the envelopes all this week for those who have accepted their offer, so you should receive it in the post tomorrow or Monday.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me. I still haven't received a pack though. O well, I'm sure I'll get all the info I need during the week.
