39mm. Yeah, usually wear bigger watches but it is very understated

And thanks, as usual, for the embedding Wibbs.

That is a really lovely shot of that watch Frank.
Lovely to see some more of the left of field manufacturers.

I got a little uv light, all the lume glows right up under it, might be handy for photos.

    Same ;)
UV light and night mode on the camera really make lume shots pop.

Night mode works great with my phone, its keeping the phone steady enough to get a good shot is the issue at the minute.

I need to work out a solution for that.

You can get something cheap like this, it's actually handy to have.

Here's the tritium just using the night mode on the camera.

    IMG-20200109-153645.jpg

The night mode takes a few seconds to capture so keeping the camera still during this is the main issue. I might pick up a UV light and see what I can get.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32815659413.html- Something like this perhaps?

    Apologies, working now Frank.

That link doesn't show any product - just an error page.

I've a phone tripod with a Bluetooth button to take the picture and a UV torch on the way so hopefully next week I'll be able to get a good picture of the tritium in action.

Gorgeous, I really want one! Is that a 114270 or 214270?

    It's the 114300.

Ah yeah, silly me. Not an Explorer. I think I need to be saving up for a 114270 myself, or maybe I'll just keep dreaming :)

Is that the influence of the Tisell 905ex? I find myself leaning towards the Rolex explorer rather than the submariner. I have a savings fund started in the credit union.

  • Registered Users Posts: 64,803 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Yes it is. It's gone so far that all the fancies I had for Submariner, GMT master and the Deep Sea have gone completely out the window. I've fallen for the Explorer now, its simplicity, elegance and beauty. And it isn't even blue. I'd trade my Seamaster in for one tomorrow :o

I know what you mean, I was keen on a no date submariner, to the point of wondering why I bought a Breitling B2 in the early 2000s, when a sub was more or less the same price.
But I saw 2sheas explorer on this thread, I thought thats quite nice.
We'll see, I'll let the fund grow.

There is a reason the explorer is a classic, and in 40 years it will be just as classic. Always in style.

Rolex have kept their design classic. A sub in 40 years time will still look the same.

Put that beside omega who just throw designs at a wall and hope something sticks.

Still tho...............that orange.....looking at my collection....wanting to consolidate...but I like them all too much.

Rolex do have their aesthetic locked down and in fairness to them.
Coming up with anything that has a mass appeal these days that doesn't take some influence or inspiration from Rollies classics is a hard ask.

I am very drawn to Bell & Ross, but even their 03-93 and v2-93 GMT's lift the GMT hand straight from the Explorer 2 and the V2 is very much an Explorer 2 homage IMO.

Price wise they are tempting on the 2nd hand market, but I do worry about residual value if I ever needed to flip.
The v2 would probably sell far easier the 03-93, but the quirkiness of that square cased monster is bloody lovely.

Santa brought me 2 of the Seiko Recraft range for Christmas. Love them ... in particular the green face version.

The codes are SNKP23 and SNKP27.

Nice. I've got the blue version and changed out the bracelet at Christmas.
