Yeah any way I read had to be done with a universal remote control (which I don't have), anyway maybe I'll get around to trying it soon.

That could have been what it was, I do not have it to hand now to check

You cannot make any Blu-Ray player region free for Blu-Ray using a remote control. You are able to make some of the Toshiba models region free but that involves installing the Australian firmware. problem is that the player it works on is rather poor and has issue playing back titles such as Drive, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and others.

You'll be able to make it region free for DVDs but not for Blu-Rays.

Kill The Irishman - A true story about Danny Greene, an Irish-american gangster, who took on the Cleveland Crime Family (who were backed the by the New york Five families) in 70's Cleveland. Great watch.

Casino - Another, gangster drama based on a true story by Scorsese with Robert De Niro and Joe pesci as two mobsters running a high end casino for the Chicago mob in Vegas. If you liked Goodfella's, you'll love this.

The Horseman - A really good, low budget Aussie flick. Really graphic, brutal thriller about a tradesman who starts investigating the death of his daughter at the hands of sleazy, amateur porn producers in rural Australia.

    Highly recommend.

Mongol - Not a fan of foreign films, but I have to say for a a film in Mongolian, it was superb. Fantastic battle scenes.

Basically, it charts the early life of mongolian Temudgin as a boy to his rise as Genghis Khan.

    For sword and sandal fans.

Drive Probably the coolest, most stylish and retro film you'll ever see. Soundtrack is just outstanding.

A film to see before you die.

Last man on earth - the inspiration for the Romero zombie films. Very similar but set in Italy.

Not the case. I own a Toshiba BDX1200 and have made it region free with firmware and haven't had a single problem playing any DVDs or BluRays, including 'Drive", which I only watched a couple of weeks ago.

In fact, I find it a superb little machine. The only issue I have with it, is the slight hum from the spindle motor that occurs on some discs.

Saw Moonrise Kingdom last night, what a wonderful way to spend time in the dark with your wife and a bunch of strangers!
A sadly non packed auditorium however, with the sound of whatever morons punching things hard coming through the walls.
But it was like watching some sort of picture book, everything was beautiful, the kids were authentically kids!
Can't wait to see it again tbh.

    Dead%20Mans%20Evidence%2001.jpg

"Deadman's Evidence" (1962) A short British spy drama concerning the identity of an agent's body discovered on Killiney beach. All is not what it seems when a colleague of the agent is sent to Ireland investigate.... Interesting in the main for its shots of Dublin, Killiney and the Eagles Nest Restaurant on Bray Head. A nice twist in the tale too.

    Rabbit Hole

    Aaron Eckhart, Nicole Kidman

To do with a couple who are trying to move on with life after their son was killed in a traffic accident.

    Was no more then average.
Not a bad film but it's pretty forgettable, doesn't stand out at all

    Act of Valor

    Great action sequences
    Liked
the sniper and them catching the body above the water
part. Also liked how they got on the submarine. These teams certainly get around, in and out of countries before anyone knows they are there.
    Good soundtrack
Nicely shot and the first person view was a bit different, very much like a computer game
    Story was decent
Acting from the seals was pretty poor but hey, they are not professional actors so it can be forgiven.

I didn't like it, not for me. Struggled on and watched to the end

But many will like it, as someone else on boards said it's a film to be watched on a Friday night with a few cans

    Just watched Get Carter.

Very good film with Michael Caine in great form as always. He just oozes menace. Some fantastic scenes and sprinkled with humour, I highly recommend it.

Our Idiot Brother - One of the most worthless films I've seen recently. Paul Rudd is inoffensive in the main role, but it's his three sisters - the usually reliable Zooey Deschanel, Emily Watson and Elizabeth Banks - who are stuck playing some of the most hateable people I've ever seen on screen. Can't believe a woman had a hand in the male-orientated screenplay such is the simplicity of these caricatures. Only Rashida Jones as a bit-player is a character you don't want to fail. Steve Coogan is stuck with an appallingly underwritten role too. Not being funny is one of the more minor crimes here. A hollow, instantly disposable film.

I have to say, I'm avoiding Apatow movies now like the plague, they are in the same pile of also rans as the Farrelly Bros films found themselves in, just got a longer run before people realised that he was a limited talent.

    Worth a watch

    Fantastic Mr. Fox

I'm surprised I put this off for so long considering it's a stop-animated feature, which are the types I love watching, and a Roald Dahl story.

I really enjoyed it and loved the quite bizzare set-pieces and production design. The rough-around the edges-looking characters just add to it's charm and witty moments.

    The Road

I saw this in the cinema when it was originally released, and it was on BBC last night, and is truely well worth a second watch.
It is tough too watch in parts, with a great performance from Viggo Mortensen, but I would highly recommend this too anybody who has not seen this film.

    Just watched Colombiana.
Too many jump cuts in the fight scenes!!!
    It's a pain!
But then, it is a bit of fluff from Megaton and Besson, so, well there you go.

    Looks great though.

Starting to forget when Besson made really great films though, Big Blue, Leon... 5th Element... ;)

    Noriko's Dinner Table

Interesting yet obtuse semi-sequel to Suicide Club/Circle. Less a sequel (the 'Shinjuku Incident' of its predecessor reoccurs) than variations on a theme. A film about identity - both created (Internet forums and chatrooms are a running trope) and prescribed. A peculiar look at family dynamics and the gap between generations too.

It's a slow film, and overlong as most Sion Sono films tend to be. In some ways, it lays the foundations for the films to come - multi-protagonist voiceovers (Love Exposure), adolescent frustration and depression (Himizu), hiring others to create a 'fake' life for oneself (Guilty of Romance). It's undeniably a messy film that will try anyone's attention span. Despite very infrequent bursts of ultraviolence and the odd moment of black comedy, it's far less 'extreme' and more somberly paced than his other films, which is a strange point to make about a film that features a schoolgirl's head getting graphically crushed by an oncoming train, but anyone with Sono's work will know what I mean :pac:. But there's a tonne of ideas waiting to be deciphered by the audience. Not a 'fun' film, but a rewarding one.

They should just start calling these types of films 'A Quirky [actor's name] Vehicle'. I saw it as well and it was just uninteresting from start to finish.

It's a tough watch alright. The thing about this film is that when it originally came out, the trailer they gave it made it look significantly more action packed than it actually was. They actually padded it out with footage that wasn't even in the film making it look like a taut post apocalyptic thriller when it was actually more of an atmospheric look at man's humanity and inhumanity. It was too much of a dirge for me in the end and, like Martyrs and Threads, is on my list of movies I won't be watching again in a hurry.

Two I saw within the last while I'll mention quickly...

Angel Heart : In the '50s, a P.I. (Mickey Rourke) is hired by a mysterious man named Louis Cypher (Robert De Niro) to track down another man named Johnny Favourite who owes a debt to him. The search for Favourite takes Angel to some dark corners of New Orleans. It's a film that starts out pretty promising but gets more contrived and confused as it goes. 5/10.

With a Friend like Harry : A French black comedy about a man named Michel who, on a day out with his wife and children, bumps into an old high school acquaintance, Harry, in a petrol station men's room. Even though the two barely spoke in their school years, Harry seems very eager to re-connect with Michel and forcibly inserts himself into Michel's life. Very entertaining dark comedy/thriller. 8/10.

Went to see "What to expect when you're expecting" last night with a few of my friends. I liked it, it was mostly comedic with a few little dramatic parts thrown in, it suited exactly what I was looking for- something light and cheerful. Chris Rocks character and his son and the girl who also plays Kirsten Wiig's Australian room-mate in "Bridesmaids" were the funniest characters for me.

    Criminal Justice Season One

    TV show, BBC production

Young quiet lad finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and the young girl he spent the night with has been killed

    Did he do it?
The detective is an old pro, excellent at his job but he has empathy too

Awaiting trial the young lad is put in prison as he can't get bail
He is bullied and threatened relentlessly, prison was a violent and dangerous place.
So bad some would rather kill themselves

Pete Postlethwaite plays an old prisoner, he is respected and left alone by the guards and the prisoners

I liked this, was very strong and they realy get across the terror of what happens in prison
Chop a mans arm off? Rob a post office? You are an ordinary decent criminal...............sex offender? You are the lowest of the low. Seems to be a code in prison

Thought the ending was weak though and the tactic that the solicitor came up with. It's like the writer ran out of ideas and was struggling to finish the show.
I don't ask for a super slick clever twist but just something a bit better then what happened.

In fact all the lawyers were useless, every one of them!

    Worth a watch

I'm going to watch Season Two now, from a quick look Matthew MacFayden plays a barrister.
    Good, I like him

Agreed 100% if Apatow made it, then his annoying bint of a wife is in it playing an annoying nagging bint (This is me being very kind by the way)

Also if Paul Rudd is in it I think I can take my chances on not seeing such a "Masterpiece" ;)

I really enjoyed this film it is dark and twisted and features a young Micky Rourke who's face has not melted off yet! :D

I have been re watching my favourite spaghetti westerns lately. A few days ago watched The Good the Bad and the Ugly followed by For a Few Dollars More and in the next day or two will be finishing the trilogy with A Fistful of Dollars yeah I know I have it back to front it was not planned, caught good bad and ugly on tv and went from there.

A friend has never seen Once Upon a Time in America so will be introducing them to that soon, can you tell I slightly like Leone? :D

Hollywood knights - copy of American grafitti but cruder. Loads of old songs on the soundtrack. Michelle Pfeiffer has a small role.

Check out Trainwreck: My Life As An Idoit [sic]. Has the same guy in it, based on a true story about a guy with learning difficulties trying to get through life. Very funny. I usually can't stand Sean William Scott, but this, Goon and Role Models I really enjoyed.

Well you're the only person who hasn't had issue with Drive. Avforums, blu-ray.com and others have numerous threads discussing the issue.
