A good one i enjoyed recently was Made with vince vaughn and john favreau, who made his directorial debut also. Small time LA mobsters who head to NY for a big deal. I didn't like vaughn till i saw this, i don't know why, but his character in this is funny, flash LA wannabe gangster.

Watched Harry Brown this afternoon, very good and I especially liked how they did the scene
of the friends funeral, with the hearse and limos passing by then cutting to Harry standing alone but for the priest at his friends grave
. Really showed how alone and isolated those old men were.

Thoroughly enjoyed Harry Brown also. Michael Caine being bad-ass!

I watched it last night aswell & thought it was much better than the reviews.
It's over 2 hours long though, that could have been cut.
Dialogue was strong & another good turn by the leads.

Good to see Naaomi Replace getting some Hollywood recognition.

    Noomi Rapace.

Just about to watch Man on a Ledge. Looks decent but trailer gives an awful lot away, probably been done before.

The entire 5 seasons of Alias - love that show!!! JJ Abrams is a genius, but I never liked lost.
Love all the characters, especially Jack and Vaughan.
Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan had great chemistry.

I hate how rushed it seemed to be at the end though.

The box sets are worth it just for the blooper reels. Hilarious.

''Twister'' (1996) Needless to say that 90% of my favourite films are from the 90's.

yeah but abrams was a co-creator of lost, he left during season 1 and has little to no involvment after that, Damon lindeloff and Carlton cuse are the people you should either thank or complain about when talking about lost, abrams has much more influence on fringe if you feel like giving that a go was only announced earlier in the week that its been renewed for a 5th and final season,

    anyhow,

Battleship, very good entertaining film, realistically its hard to complain about it, it delivered what was expected of it and made a bit of fun of itself while doing it, i loved how the bomb yokes the aliens fire look like the little sticks you used in the game,

    mo-halo mother ****er :D

Lockout, Maggie grace gets kidnapped again, at least she was actually doing something in this, its worth a watch on DVD don't think its as essential to see in cinema as say battleship or avengers

Avengers, just CLASSSSS, if you liked any of the lead up films to this i more than highly recommend seeing this ASAP, wheadon nailed it in my opinion, id say this film will be a bench mark for all superhero films to come,

    EDIT

also just watched American Pie 1, what a bloody laugh had forgotten most of it, ah remember the days trying to acquire porn channels, still cant watch when Jim first approaches Nadia, so cringe worthy:)

Metropolitan - a satirical but affectionate look at the upper class in New York from director Whit Stillman. Wanted to check this out after seeing Damsels in Distress, and this is certainly a stronger film all-in-all. The first half is mostly a series of witty conversations amongst a young group of sensible revelers and their new middle class friend, looking at topics such as the offensiveness of Jane Austin and their disappointment with the cynicism of Bunuel's films about the bourgeoisie.

But there's actually a heart to this, and despite seeming like it may become just another skewering of the upper class Stillman injects some humanity into the characters. That underneath these pretentious, tuxedo-wearing people are just some misguided teenagers searching for meaning. It's a simple film in many ways, but it's quite clever, and a different take on a well-covered social grouping.

Last night "The Riddle" (2007) - Daily Mail promo .50 cent from a charity shop. Starring Vinnie Jones and Derek Jacobi - tortuously slow moving story about a previously undiscovered Charles Dickens novel and a series of present day murders. Running staggering to almost two hours I felt it was about an hour too long - only for the most devoted fans of the two aforementioned stars and I wouldn't recommend to a friend.

Saw The Avengers and Clerks 2 over the weekend

Two completely different films but both excellent all the same! I was really surprised at how good the avengers actually turned out to be. If you're looking for something to see in the cinema I'd suggest you go to see it

    Marley

Couldnt find a thread on this so I'll stick what I thought in here.
Bloody magnificent film. Went through a phase of listening to his music as a teenager, but never realised how good he was. Some really moving scenes at the end. As good as Senna I reckon.

Excellent made for tv movie focusing on the good and bad that Sarah Palin did for John McCains presidential campaign. Julianne Moore plays a very convincing Palin, and Ed Harris plays John McCain. Stars Woody Harrelson also. Definitely worth a look, humourous and made very well

Taking of Pelham One Two Three: The original, the best. The remake is a soulless husk of a film in comparison. Such a host of brilliantly obnoxious New York characters, and a story that doesn't take itself too seriously. A few racially insensitive jokes are really the sole sour note in a film that moves briskly. Fun, self-aware and often thrilling. A superior evening's entertainment.

just saw chronicle, another great film released this year, i highly recommend seeing this, im not a hugh fan of found footage film, but this was done really well i must say

2012 has really started off well, and i must say with some of the films coming out, if even half of them live up to expectation its gonna be some year,

    Network

I knew about the famous rant for years so decided to check it out.
Didn't like this at all, just flew by and nobody grabbed my attention
    Not a fan

edit, I suppose I did like Robert Duvall playing the bastard executive

    Red Tails

Follow a squadron of black US army air corp pilots in WWII

The planes and dogfights was superbly done
As you'd expect from George Lucas

The story was the typical sentimental fare.
You could watch the start and pick out you, you and you will die and the rest will shed a tear, complete the mission and honour their memory
As so it went, there was no story here, it was all about the action sequences

    Ok film, just ok

Highly disagree. Didn't have the same narrative heft or heart as Senna, was way overlong and had far too much footage of people in chairs reminiscing instead of getting to know the man himself (plus it borders on sheer hagiography at times). A real wasted opportunity because as a non fan I was left bored and felt that there was nothing in it that I couldn't have gotten from a wiki article.

Went to see The Avengers last night - was a good movie - really enjoyed the action scenes and overall it was a well rounded movie.

Felt it was missing something though not sure what - the humour was good but not brilliant, the chemistry between the Avengers themselves I did like however - Banner & Starks conversation I really enjoyed.

    Would give it a 7/10

    The Avengers:

Super film. Really really enjoyed it. Was a bit worried that the film would drag in places given that the running time is almost two and a half hours but there was absolutely no filler. Pure entertainment all the way through.

I think Whedon did a great job in that no character overshadowed anybody and it worked very very well.

The mix of action and humour was truly excellent. Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy but that's half the fun of it.

If you haven't seen any of the previous Marvel films, I'd recommend you watch them before seeing this as you may feel a bit lost with some of the references.

Highly recommended and really really enjoyable.

    The A Team

I'd call it somewhat meh to OK. Jessica Biel's character was pretty thin, but I suppose such a role often is in these things. It pushes along at a fair pace, but I think it really only became interesting and somewhat tense around the hour mark. The action was fairly meaningless and would probably have been more effective in the hands of a more competent director. What came in between as story - meh. I've mixed feelings about how they intercut the planning and the action bits. The general over the topness I liked as that would seem to sync well enough with the series. The team itself were pretty good.

    Dario Argento's tenebre

I dug out an old disc i had as i hadn't seen it in
years and was surprised as how it's dated. Unlike his
classics such as deep red and suspiria this one has
    gotten very old very fast.

Sure, there's loads to enjoy, but the first twenty minutes are
almost embarrassing to watch and Tony Franciscus looks for
the most part wishing he was back on 110th Street or guiding
    his blind dog.

The arm loping is impressive though as is the high heeled lady
    in the red shoes.

    ;)

Not as bad as what was to come (creepers excepted) but still...

    The Practice

    Not a film, it's a TV show
    I'm halfway through season two

    I like it

They sometimes lose badly so it's not a certainty that they win every episode
Though just about every client in that law firm is a scumbag so they had it coming

Bit of a love story popping up now and again but the characters aren't particularly likeable so I don't realy care

And why is the lawyer with a Harvard law degree working with such hacks in a near bankrupt firm
    She shouldn't be there
