Just watched Botched (2007) off tape (ITV4)

Provided you are in the right mood and preferably in a group who are also in a "few beers and snacks" frame of mind you should enjoy this black comedy of misfortune which could be subtitled Murphskies Law. Russian-American goes to Moscow to rob a valuable bejewelled cross to pay off family debt, robbery goes wrong and so does everything else pretty much from that moment on. To reveal more would be spoiling, suffice to say you'll need to be a gore hound as it gets stranger and bloodier as it goes. Clearly made for tuppense it was largely filmed at Ardmore Studios several of the cast will be familair faces off TV with the scene setting exteriors in France and Russia.

    Burn after reading

Death Note - movie adaptation of the manga. Really enjoyed it ,and a good twist at the end.

And thick as thieves - was a decent enough movie. Seemed to be very similar to some movies I'd already seen though.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Michael Clayton - Absolutely fantastic movie, really becoming one of my all time favourites. Brilliant acting and some terrific scenes.

The International - Really enjoyed this, sometimes a bit too smart for its own good but Clive Owens energetic performance pulls you through.

City of God - Another terrific movie. When I originally saw the movie I missed the first 30 mins so it was nice to finally see the whole thing.

Arlington Rd - Poor movie. Was not impressed with it at all.

Ghost Town - meh, some good bits but still your garden variety rom com

Gonna watch Transsiberian now I think. Looks like my kinda movie

Worlds Fastest Indian (2005) Writer and Director Roger Donaldson.

Based on the the true story of an AOP from New Zealand, Burt Munro who sets a land speed record on two wheels, enjoyable and great performances from an "Autumnal" cast though I suspect all the details of the road trip are highly made up. No one has that much good fortune with the people he meets.

Sex Drive - good enough.... the last few scenes are brilliant

Frost/Nixon - Loved it... it was just extremely interesting.... very well acted too

Anvil - The story of Anvil. Documentary about an 80's metal band who influenced the likes of Metallica, Slayer & Anthrax.

    Definitely worth watching.

Certainly the end of the film isn't quite accurate
Munro's fastest complete run at Bonneville was 190.07 MPH. He never set a record of 201 MPH at Bonneville as the film portrays, but did reach 205.67 MPH on an uncompleted run, on which he unfortunately crashed. Munro does crash after his 201 MPH record-breaking run, which is officialised unlike the 205.67 MPH run (stolen from wikipedia)

    Still a very enjoyable film!

Watched transsiberian. Good first hour and 15 mins....kind of lost its way towards the end.

    The Hurt Locker
    - Rubbish pile of crapola. Watched the first 20 mins and the last 5 mins Awful Awful Awful.
The acting is dire, the scenes are unrealistic, the props are woeful. Everything looks new and shiny. They are in iraq...nothing is new and shiny.
    Watch Generation Kill instead.

Face/Off-Is this possibly the best worst film of all time? The storyline is terrible but all the action and the crazy Nicolas Cage is brilliant.

Knowing: This has to be worse than Face/Off, terrible plot. Decent special effects though!

    In The Loop

Great political comedy from Armando Iannucci, same characters as the show "The Thick Of It" but with added american characters, very funny! great film.

What an odd criticism, "less shiny!" :p

I thought it and Generation Kill looked visually the same, and I liked it, it wasn't fantastic or anything but it was ok.

Also watched Road To Perdition (pretty good), Felon (great), Mystic River (good), Treasure Planet (ok), and Road House (great!) in the last few weeks.

Ice Age 3 in 3d - Went purely for the novelty of 3d, film - boring, 3d - excellent

The Hangover - Haven't laughed as much at a movie in ages

Pride and Glory - Didn't really enjoy it, felt too much like the tired dirty cop format IMO

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 804 ✭✭✭yerayeah

Oh yeah, watched The Hangover as well - funny show, best comedy I've seen in a while:)

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - it was alright, I enjoyed it, not a classic obviously but I'd probably watch it again...

Watched A few over the last few days.

Untraceable: Entertaining little thriller. Kept short so it moves along at a nice pace. Diane Lane is always enjoyable to watch.

Breach: Was expecting this to be better than it was. Performances were nice in it but the story just never really took off and grabbed me.

One Missed Call: I went into this knowing it was gonna be pretty bad but because it was based on a Miike film I thought it may have something more going for it but it didn't. I don't think I've groaned so many times watching a film in quite awhile. In fairness the pathetic opening scene had me laughing so I should have known from then on what to expect. Avoid this one!

    recently:

Red Cliff in the cinema. Awesome. John Woo please stick to asian movies. :)

Public Enemies - undecided tbh. Fantastic scene in the woods but a bit bleh over all maybe.

The wrestler - I thought it was really good, rourkes performance was excellent and i really felt for him by the end of the movie although i do wish the ending was a bit longer

Body of lies - average really... i hadn't a clue what was going on for the majority of it, it was all over the place really.... Russel Crowe's character was extremely annoying i thought btw

ya great news about alonso... Ronnie Whelan can read that report now and shut the fcuk up about rafa trying his best to get rid of alonso..

As i already said before i don't think he'll go and if he does rafa will have a few ideas..

I'm delighted that rafa is challenging the yougsters like nemeth and pacheco... He's signed a decent amount of youngsters this year which is great to see too... I think we're going to see a lot more progress there now that he has full control and his own staff...

It's exciting times... now all we need is a masch to sign a new deal

    Haha, wrong thread!!!
