Am I the only one that find posts like this unsavoury? People are loosing their jobs daily and we have someone looking for advice on how best to blow €80K. Good for you but I am sure there are people here who don't need to hear about your dilemma. I also find it hard to believe that with your budget and stated wishlist (so you obviously know your cars) that you don't already have a pretty clear idea of what car you want to buy. I doubt suggestions here are going to influence your spend.

This is not a personal attack, I simply feel that posts like this leave a bad taste at the moment.
I would say you should go moan about it here...but it's locked:rolleyes:

    • I'm setting a limit of €80,000.
    • It can be no older than 2006 and it can be anywhere between there and 2009.
    • It has to be a coupe (that rules out the M5 and RS4 suggestions!) and it has to be either RWD or AWD.
    • It probably has to be petrol.

    What you think lads?

It'll be hard to trade the 335 against it...but

I have never been in that position but my intuition agrees with you :)

A Cayman has no back seats at all - you'd be surprised how useful the back seats in a 911 are when compared with nothing.

Indeed. Even better when the storage space at the back is not taken up by things like engines etc. :D

The old man at the recycling centre was lost for words when I pulled two very large Christmas trees from the back of my hatchback 928

What a position to be in, I tried to stick to your guidelines!

    M3

    Z4M

    911

For my money it would have to be one of these. They just look and sound so right.

I know its a year older then you want, but if you're willing to go to the UK they're going for a song at the moment.

An M6, no doubt about it. That is if you like the looks. I do and it'd be mine if I were in your position.

But the GT-R.....wow......if it could be got within budget, I'd buy it in a flash. Nissan badge or not. What a car.

    Lambo FTW!

    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/701015.htm

    72,795.00 GBP = 78,517.86 EUR

I'm sure you could sacrifice your year rule for one of them and buy a run-about for the day to day driving i.e. dundrum SC

yea that's over priced, you can get them for as little as 55k now - still wouldn't come in at 80k though after VRT

You are forgetting about the VRT which would push it over the €80k.

This thread is ridiculous if you do "Love cars" could you not think of a car yourself? Why do you need someone else to pick a car for you?

If you have a problem with people discussing their next choice of car then maybe you should stay away from Motors.

    Hi MarkN,

If it was my money, I would stay away from the 911. I used to love them, think of them as the supercar that would not break down on your (relative to ferarri) but to be honest... the styling now , its very teutonic, like an overgrown VW beetle. Honestly thats what it looks like!

I think the aston martin suggestion was fantastic. Sexy, sleek, beautiful sounding supercar. What are your opinions on the Aston Martin?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,538 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

MarkN - glad to hear your back in the market. The S5 would be not better (worse IMHO) than the 335i. A porker.....not for me but they drive like they are on rails. An M6 would be great and there is some real value out there however as a everyday driver the fuel costs (a pal has a e60 m5) are a pain, the tank isnt that big either. An M3 would not be much of a leap in everyday driving. The DB9 is what I would traid for if it was me. By the way my car is the same spec as yours could you tell me where you got a good traid in. I went to change mine reciently and the dealer I bought the thing from would not give me a trade in price...the cocks

A bit above budget and old but none the less

Or the new Z4 folding hardtop with the 335i engine, could be a cracker but have not read any reviews yet. edit.....check this out

This will be locked soon Id say.

FWIW id say a Honda NSX would do nicely, he should manage a 06 or better

I think this is actually going to go nowhere without asking a vital question.... how much do you actually expect to get on a trade in for your 335? Is the 80k you mention taking your trade in value into consideration?

My guess is that a lot of dealers wont want it, and those that will take it will screw you over because they wont be able to sell it.

Because of this, I reckon you wont get anything better than what you have at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭spartacus93

    M6
Nissan GT-R (although i don't know how much you'll like that suggestion)
    or a black S5

If it was my money i'd go for the DB9, you'd get one a few years old for a very good price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭MarkN

Plenty of dealers are willing to take mine as a trade once I'm taking heavier metal off their hands.

DB idea is mental. I never thought they'd be anywhere near on the money. I'm just cautious of something so mad and the running costs should something go wrong. I'm looking for hassle free motoring, will an Aston Martin give me that? We're talking serious supercar now where I thought a 06 911 would be my absolute limit when I started this thread.

fitzgeme - it really depends what you want to buy whether the dealer will take yours or not. I asked in Joe Duffy about their 07 M3 and it wasn't a problem to take mine as a trade in for them.

Someone I know in the trade called me about a 2009 TTS in sprint blue but I'm not the biggest TT fan.

The DB9 really is "poster on bedroom wall" kind of car to me. Absolutely stunning and blows any 911/Cayman/M car away in terms of presence. I'd imagine it's also a fantastic drive.

Honestly, if it was me and a DB9 was within my sights it would be next to impossible to look past it. I mean just look at it....

well Mark, if you really have the money why not spend it for something really special.

Aston Martin DB9 or Bentley Continental GT are so different league than for instance M3 or R5 and it seems that you can afford it, so why not?

Most of us will never have a change to get a car like that and if you do, why try to think with your brains instead your heart:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 356 ✭✭agent_smith

The audi tts would be an absolute cracker of a car... I'd take one over a 911 any day. I'm not a big fan of the engine hanging out the arse of the porsche.

Another option would be to hold out this year and wait till next for the new Audi R4.. http://www.elrincondelconductor.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/audi_r4_preview01.jpg

Mark what about the m3 coupe version if you want the two door coupe look... because you are not crossing brands you probably would not loose too much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

I hate to burst the bubble but with 80k to spend and it'll have to be in Ireland because of the trade in, a DB9 or V8 vantage is way out of price range. You could probably get a Bentley Continental but lets face it.... they're just not nice enough!
