Thanks! I knew becoming a hermit would pay off. But I now realise I will have to be a hermit for another 4 years.. ah well..

With Boards Beers it's always likely that there's an odd person (my bet is on Tallaght) but you just ignore them! ;)

Quick question: When someone who has been in ICU and looses muscle mass what is the correct term for it? I have written in my notes mitosis but that's wrong. Maybe something that sounds similar?

    Thank u.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭DrIndy

    myopathy

ICU myopathy notably - made worse by skeletal muscle relaxants used in anaesthesia and steroids

    bring back cattleprods!

My God! How much i have desired that piece of equipment to assist people to walk!

I favour midweek beers because most people will have some sort of "other plan" over the weekend and thus not suit them.

We can start relatively early too. Sometime next week folks?

Ah tallaght, your helping the kids with the homework now! :D

Maybe you can help me out (physiology assesment tomorrow) :(

Can you explain why the QRS complex in an avR lead is inverted.
Guyton & Hall has failed me on this one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

    ^^^It was actually Dr.Indy ;)

    Ah indeed it was. :o
I blame it on the lack of sleep.

    Dr Indy, any suggestions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,461 ✭✭✭DrIndy

because the heart is on the left side of the body. It should ALWAYS be inverted - unless you have dextrocardia or someone did an oopsy with the ECG machine

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭mardybumbum

Yep, I know that the recording from the aVR lead should always be inverted, but Im trying to understand the theory behind why that is so.

Something to do with the polarity connections to the EKG me thinks.

It's to do with the direction of the depolarisation. The depolarisation towards the lead will be up, eg P and R towards AVL, S is away from AVL so it's down. Then the repolarisation T will be away from AVL so that will be up too.

    I think thats right anyway.

Have you looked at one of those ECG made easy books? Better than Guyton.

^^^Look what I started.. sorry!
