I know the website issue pre-dates the announcement of the renaming of C6 to 3e, but its become just yet another (5 of them around Boards at one point) thread about the relaunch, so its being merged too.

The DOG on TV 3 is too far in from the right. It needs moving... or removed altogether... but then.. how would we know what channel we were watching??? We'd be in some mess there if we didn't!

I hate the way most broadcasters insist on keeping their DOGs in the 4:3 safe area, it makes the widescreen picture look sloppy. They're probably worried that (like with Sky1, Sky2 and Sky3) you'd set the picture to 4:3 cropped and hide the DOG! Shock horror!

Even though Channel 6 has now passed into the hands of TV3, the aspect ratio of 3e on NTL analogue in Dublin is STILL incorrect.

It is wrong on satellite too.

Obviously rebranding the website wasn't a top priority for them (but has the website ever been...) - but they've finally changed to the new logo in the banner today (or could have been yesterday, I didn't visit yesterday...).

SIX months after snapping up Channel 6, tv3 is preparing a major push to double their new station's audience over the next year.

The top brass at Ballymount have already re-branded Channel 6 as "3e", using ads on both stations to bring viewers up to speed.

The TV network is now preparing to launch a wider campaign over the coming weeks as 3e gears up for its schedule relaunch in March.

That campaign will include "innovative" ads on TV, press and radio, tv3 commercial director Pat Kiely said, suggesting an overall spend in the "high six figures".

He declined to confirm whether tv3 would be booking ads on rival tv networks, saying it was "too early to show our hands on that".

The tv3 group's strategy is to fully integrate the new station into the "3 family" with tv3 and tv3.ie, a briefing of about 70 agencies' executives was told at a meeting last Friday.

"They seemed to have looked at how stations like Channel 4 and e4 had done it in the UK," said Initiative boss Chris Rayner who was at the meeting.

"The 3e brand is edgier and younger than tv3's, that was always the idea with Channel 6, but there's a lot more support behind it now and it'll get a lot more exposure on tv3."

Kiely said cross-promoting the stations would be key to growing audiences.

"Every time we finish a show we have the potential to lose viewers, if we go from Corrie to the Champions League we're going to be promoting the hell out of whatever is on e3," he said.

"We think we should be able to at least double the viewership of Channel 6 this year, some of the agencies are telling us we should be going for more than that."

That doubling would see 3e take a 2.4pc share of the TV market.

Kiely also rejected the suggestion that 3e could cannabilise some of tv3's own audience and said he was "not concerned" at figures last week which showed that the Top 10 most viewed programmes of 2008 were all on RTE.

"innovative" ads on TV, press and radio with an overall spend in the "high six figures"???? Seriously either you spend the money on a good revamp and employ professionals to do it for you, or you spend the money to launch attractive Television shows on your new service. I am not even talking about Irish programming, but seriously think about "Superman" and "Star Trek" both of which have seen their day, prehaps repeats of "Smallville" or "Battlestar Galatica" would fit in better.

I am sorry but 3e could cannabilise some of tv3's own audience, why because that is the view of all of the channels in Britian, even look at Irish audiences who have drop away from C4, BBC1 and BBC2 why because of extra C4 and BBC channel not just the over all effect of mulitchannel TV.

I would not be surprised if C4, E4, More4 and Film Four with their +1 services do not equal C4 share of the Irish audience back in 1999. Unfortuately for UTV it has been cannablised by other channels.

well that can only be a good thing anyway, as the schedule at the moment is diabolical. Having XPOSE on after the TV3 show is stupid really. Lets hope there's a new range of programmes that'll come in - along with a replacement for Nightshift - even an hour or 2 hours a week. That would easily slip in somewhere along the schedule!

Nah it just their way of telling us that Corronations Street will be on at 6:30 and Xpose on at 7.

What's happened Emmerdale on 3e, you can tell I am a fan!

Malcolm in the Middle has taken its place. Have the cracks of TV3's terrible marketing campaign starting to show?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭iseegirls

Well it was a ridiculous decision to put Emmerdale on a "entertainment" channel anyway. They model themselves on E4, and E4 would never show a soap like Emmerdale in their schedule.
I think Malcolm In The Middle might be the better choice for the time being.

The omnibus is gone on Saturday aswell - and being replaced by Ricki Lake, Airline and more Malcolm.

They are having a schedule relaunch in March - so expect a few filler shows top be creeping in here and there!

Really need to sort out their website tho - it's terrible!

I think you are being very positive about the changes that they plan to make in March.

E4 show Hollyoaks! And would they even think of showing Ricky Lake or Airline?

I am thinking 1 of 3 things happened with Emmerdale

    1. It was out performing Xpose on TV3 or
    2. They didn't have to rights the so many repeats or
    3. Emmerdale shouldn't have been repeated on 3e for your reasons and it wasn't improving 3e share of the audience.

While TV3 might say E4 is the template for 3e, it is more like ITV2.

I had recorded "On the Edge" which 3e showed last Sunday morning at 00.45.

It was billed as a film set in Ireland with Cillian Murphy and Stephen Rea."
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0221559/

It sounded worth a look, the continuity announcer even said it was starring Cillian Murphy.

It started and they were speaking in American accents, I fast forwarded a bit and there was John Candy. Hmmm

Turns out they were showing the film "On the Edge", but a different one:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253425/

It gave me a laugh anyway. I wonder will the Irish "edition" ever get shown or did anyone else actually notice..

Hollyoaks is aimed at a younger generation compared to Emmerdale. Most of the characters in Hollyoaks range from 16-30yr olds.
Dave which is seen as a "cool" channel shows repeats of BBC's Airport, so maybe Airline might work.

I agree that it is wierd that they are showing these type of programmes - but i guess they're just trying out different programmes and seeing which ones will work on 3e. No harm in that really.

In my opinion - i'm hoping they really change the schedule in March - they should have a huge comedy block on the daytime schedule - as no channels really offer that. They have the rights to Scrubs, Friends, Seinfeld, Everybody loves Raymond, Four Kings, How i met your Mother, Always Sunny in phladelphia, My Name is Earl - and Will And Grace etc . . from TV3.

And put music videos back on in the mornings! :)

Dave shows Airline! Emmerdale is Coronation Streets youthful sister :) If a show is good it doesn't matter what age it is aim at.

I am again going to be pessimistic and suggested that TV3 have no plans to renew Seinfeld or CYE, I haven't seen How I met your mother on 3e in a while, and it isn't looking good for Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Did TV3 renew Will and Grace? I don't think that show should be mentioned with the others TBH.

Come March most of the C6 shows (bar Friends, Dexter, Heroes, House and a few others) will all disappears, to be replaced by repeats of TV3 shows or first showings of TV3 show or extra shows like Britain's got more talent, IACGMOH NOW! etc.

It's hard to believe (or maybe not) that they still havn't fixed the aspect ratio on 3e. If they manage to broadcast Dexter properly on tv3 why is it so hard to show the next episode in the same format on 3e. If they just zoomed the picture to 4:3 without the stretched picture it wouldnt be as bad, thought that would be still wrong.
It's not just dexter there are other programmes also broadcast wrong too.

Well they're gonna start showing repeats of the days episode/s of Coronation Street at 9pm in a week's time. This is such lazy scheduling!

Its a pity as the channel was far better as Channel 6. If its supposed to be modeled on E4 its actually closer to ITV2. Actually ITV2 is better at least the aspect ratio of widescreen programmes is correct.

    I agree, it's basically ITV2 Ireland.

Did Channel 6 show aspect ratios correctly before the rebrand? I assumed they did.

Channel 6 broadcast its few widescreen programmes correctly, however a short while after they were bought by TV3 and just before the rename they suddenly stopped. Just check out dexter on tv3 and compare it to 3e afterwards its ridicolous. Things like that just annoy me.

Does anyone else have problems with TV3's aspect ratios for their own home-produced programmes like ireland AM, XPOSE and the news - everything is so stretched for me on NTL Digital?

Vincent Browne's show is always wrong any time I saw it, it's flagged as 16:9 on DTT when it's a 4:3 programme. Not sure about other platforms.

I don't watch either TV3 or 3e much but they both seem to be wrong for all shows on NTL Digital, not sure weather it is a problem with NTL or TV3.

I checked when terminator was on last sunday evening, at least the made the DOG transparent its not as annoying now. But the picture was still unwatchable due to the stretched picture i even tried 4:3, 4:3 Letterbox but it made no difference

Just an aul update on the schedule on 3e:
    • They're repeating Coronation Street episodes at 9pm on the days they are originally shown on TV3. (Dunno why, it would make better sense if they moved the repeats on TV3 and moved them to 3e around 3pm)
    • House looks like it's being discontinued on TV3 as 3e will be taking it up from Series 1, Episode 7 - next Sunday for 4 epsides, and that's continuing on the following week.
    • 3e's Dancing on ice repeats on Sunday afternoon haven't worked either as they have took these away after just 2 weeks.
    • Malcolm In The Middle might be doing a gud job - they've dedicated most of their weekend mornings to them from 21st Feb+, plus it's on at 6pm everyday.
    • Everybody Hates Chris repeats on Friday at 8pm
    • Ricki Lake took away from the Sat schedule after 2 weeks.
    • Terminator moved from Thursday to Sundays
    • And most surprising one and most mindboggling one must be the decision to put Heroes on at 9 on Sunday, right up against Lost on RTE2!!
So 3e seem to be throwing programmes here and there, and seeing if they work, and only giving them 2-3 weeks to see if they work which seems very short. We'll prob see a better structured schedule after a few weeks or months i'd say

And it just shows that no one in TV3 knows how to schedule.

Emmerdale and expose didn't even get into 3e top 30 during the first month. That is less then 11,000 viewers. Malcolm has proved better (getting a into the top 30) but has yet to set their Xpose repeat alight with viewers.

Moving TV3's Coronation Street and Emmerdale repeats would be a really bad move by TV3 they possibly get twice as many as 3e number one show at 24,000 viewers. Xposes repeat during the day on TV3 gets 50,000 viewers.

Putting House up againist CSI on RTE TWO was a mistake.

I post the ratings for 3e up later.

Strange how exposé does not get into the top 30. :D
27000 for their top rated show is woefully bad.
