    New logos too!

I thought the top logo was for TV 3 News, but the channel keps the 3 circles logo? Has the on screen TV 3 DOG changed to the 3 in the box? It looks like the France 3 logo, just not slanted...

These are the logos on upc.ie. The three used for TV3 here is similar to the 3 used in 3e, so they might change both. But they only updated their onscreen logo a few months back and I've rather grown to like the circles. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow for this relaunch/rebrand.

Too many Channel 6 / TV3e /TV3 rebrand threads for my liking, so let's merge some of them.

    New logos too!

    3e.jpg

That's from UPC, I thought my mock up was bad. The top one is the TV3 News logo, which was to be used for 3TODAY (TV3 rolling news service).

3e logo needs a rethink. As does the name.

I think we need to start a pool. How long before 3e is re-branded? I give it 6 months.

    68729.JPG

    3e a famine stricken man's ITV2.

The Irish Times Mag gave it 4th column in the TV listings.

It should really go RTE ONE, TG4, TV3, RTE TWO, BBC 1, BBC 2, UTV, C4, Setanta Ireland

3e should be with E4 in the listings.

Seriously TV3 are going to use there News logo for their main logo? ****. that old 3 is kind of classy. Oh Well.

I actually like the news one a lot better than the 1998 logo, which I never really liked (even when the "tvthree" logotype was removed and it was put in a circle, which made it look a bit better). The news one looks a bit more serious IMO and to be honest I never saw the logic of using a different logo for news to the main corporate logo (although both RTÉ and BBC were big faults at this for much of the 1970s and 1980s).

Channel 6 / TV3e does not deserve to be in the the main TV listings. Its cry was "we're an Irish channel, we deserve to be with the other Irish channels" rings very hollow when it never had much in the way of original Irish programming other than links between music videos, and now has no original Irish programming (other than TV3 repeats) whatsoever. For goodness sake both Setanta Sports and City Channel (both of which are producing significant amounts of Irish programming) have on that point far more of a claim on that slot in the main TV listings than C6 does. None of them should get it though - they are all pay-TV channels and IMO only FTA channels should have a right to be in those slots.

The 3 is far to big and far to bold, it was like a child typed it up using paint. TV3's swishes logo is kind of iconic, well kind of like C4s, can you imagine C4 getting rid of their 4?

TV3 used to always use the 3 in their news, or tvthree.

The brand identity was designed by top Dublin design firm Dynamo.

The brief demanded a vibrant and dynamic solution to target a contemporary and progressive Irish audience. A unique approach was agreed by Dynamo and TV3 in the development of the new identity, in that the final solution avoids common television cliches.

The symbol has a dynamic construction embodying energy, motion and synergy. It is fresh, clean and contemporary with a European feel. The symbol was designed to reflect an Irish emotive quality without overstating historic or cultural references.

The TV3 symbol consists of three set parts. The abstract curved elements come together to form the "three" and the logotype acts as a foundation to the mark while placing the emphasis on the word "three".

The new TV3 and 3e look.

David McRedmond: - "Well last year my daughter was playing on the computer, she is only 4 so she was learning to type the number 3, and she happened to invert the colours. Well as soon as I saw the blue and the reds she was using, I thought this could be our new TV News logo. She used primary colours which really define TV3 News as the primary source of Irish and International news...... later on in the month she was messing around again learning her letters, and as soon as I saw the orange lower case e, I new she was saying that Channel 6 should be called 3e. No offense to Micheal Murphy's kids who orginial designed the Channel 6 logo. My daughter (4) now heads up TV3 marketing department. This is a huge development for TV3, and recognises young talent and fosters a sense of family in modern Ireland."

Looks like the Daily Mail was wrong, the channel will be called 3e not TV3e.

I saw a short sting for the new logo today on Channel 6.
Looks like the little "e" will be a bit of a character, like the BBC Two "2" or E4 logo.

Theres a short report in the indo:

    Full press release:
TV3 INTRODUCES NEW ON-AIR BRANDING AND A NEW IDENTITY FOR CHANNEL 6

    • TV3 rebranded with a modern, contemporary look
    • Channel 6 becomes 3e and is repositioned as a sibling channel to TV3
    • Both channels supported by award-winning online service TV3.ie

On Monday January 5th 2009 both TV3 and Channel 6 unite with a new identity marking the expansion of the biggest commercial broadcaster in the country.

Following TV3’s acquisition of Channel 6 in late 2008, this move sees the two channels revamped and positioned as complementary in both programming and scheduling. The new brand identity has evolved to link the three channels that now make up the TV3 group – TV3, 3e and TV3.ie.

The new look for TV3 will appear for the first time during the first ad break of the News at 5.30 on January 5th 2009.

The new 3e channel will be on-air from early morning on January 5th.

    TV3

The latest branding for TV3 is a strong, confident expression of what the channel stands for – a contemporary, indigenous channel which will stand out in an increasingly busy digital media environment. It reflects a channel that has come of age in the last 12 months, with strong home produced content and ground breaking documentary strands, including Dirty Money (302,000/22.1 share), Me and the Big C (175,000/11.9 share), The Apprentice (281,000/18.0 share), Nightly News with Vincent Browne (91,000/9.8 share), Xposé (78,000/7.8 share) and the GAA Championship when over 1.9 million viewers tuned in to the ten games. In 2008, TV3 remained the second most watched channel in Ireland, posting an 11.9% share for Adults15+ and registering an audience share 11% higher than its nearest rival. TV3 ended the year on a high with Saturday December 13th being the strongest performing day of 2008 with a 19.3% Adult15+ share, making TV3 the most watched station in Ireland. (*Figures based on series average for Individuals)

    3e

3e is the new name for Channel 6 – the ‘e’ stands for entertainment. It is a sibling channel strongly aligned with TV3 through its programming and scheduling. The focus of 3e is on pure entertainment, reflected in the bright, jovial personality of the channel. It offers viewers a unique opportunity to see their favourite programmes on an Irish channel. The most popular programmes such as Sex and the City, Heroes, CSI and The Sopranos will remain but the schedule will be refreshed ensuring that TV3 and 3e are fully complementary combining unique and originated programming with a blend of popular drama, comedy and entertainment shows.

3e will also offer TV3 follow-on programming and extra entertainment programming such as The Apprentice: You’re Fired, The Xtra Factor and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now! Over the next twelve months the 3e schedule will develop in parallel with TV3’s to offer the best slate of commercial broadcasting across two channels.

    Background

Over the past ten years TV3 has evolved from a single free to air channel to a successful suite of digital media services, beginning with the acquisition of Channel 6 last summer and followed by the launch of the award winning website, www.tv3.ie in October 2008. Since TV3 first went on air, both the television market and audience viewing habits have changed significantly with the arrival of numerous channels across the digital spectrum. While people are watching more television they are also watching more channels making it difficult to build loyalty. The combined proposition of TV3 and 3e creates the strongest offering for Irish television audiences and their entertainment needs.

Both will be supported by the award winning website, TV3.ie, which offers catch-up programming, up-to-date News and Sport and entertainment.

David McRedmond, Chief Executive of TV3 Group, said:

“The creation of a single brand across TV3, the new 3e and TV3.ie marks a coming-of-age as TV3 migrates from a single old terrestrial channel to become a broad-based indigenous digital broadcaster. The employees of TV3 and its shareholders have worked hard to deliver this strategy, and we now look forward to the support of the Government and the Regulator to deliver growth in a difficult market.”

Ben Frow, Director of Programming, TV3 Group, said:

“The TV3 group gives us a further opportunity to offer Irish viewers even more great programmes with its mix of familiar favourites, follow on shows, extra programming and unique, originated series. 3e promises to be a one stop shop for the best in entertainment and drama.”

Please find attached files of the new TV3 and 3e logos in various formats. Also attached is a video file of the animated TV3 and 3e logos as they will appear on screen from January 5th 2009.

Images of TV3 on-air personalities with the new logos are also available from MacInnes Photography at 01 661 0215 and info@mip.ie.

The schedule times need to be sorted out. There is no such thing as "03.00pm".

0300 is for three o'clock in the morning.
3.00 can stand for either 3 in the morning or afternoon, so would need to be suffixed with an 'am' or 'pm' for clarity.
1500 is three in the afternoon, no ambiguity.

The new look for TV3 is a lazy expression of a lazy channel. That over the past 12 months has been able to use the License fee to provide drama, documentry and current affairs. We will now use precentages to make our output look good. Xpose may not be doing as well as TV3 News at 6:30 but don't tell the BCI cause the viewing figures for the news was the reason we asked could we axe it.

Yes it does look **** and a tiny bit gimicky, is that e just adourable, awh. The e will soon join the Xpose team. Lets face it e doesn't stand for entertainment it stands for extra (an extra pile of poo).

Ah! Ah! Over the past ten years TV3 have successfully avoid doing any work. Thank god for Corronation Street and in the past year thank god for the license fee. People are now watching less TV because their is nothing on, we just are going to avoid the internet as long as we can, and our golden spider award proves our comitment to the Interweb.

The TV3 group gives us a further opportunity to offer the exact same type of programming that we here in TV3 are used to churning out on a daily bases. 3e promises to be the one stop shop for more repeats, more add on shows because we cannot come up with anything better and more repeats.

In a previous role, Mr McRedmond was the 'Comical Ali' for eircom. He was regularly on radio extolling the virtues of eircom as a leading provider of world-class telephony and of driving broadband across the country.

Emm, did someone forget to throw the switch at TV3 mission control?

3e's listings stated the first programme (Party of Five) was due to start at 10.00am.
Aertel lists it (still under the banner of Channel 6) as starting at 10.15am.

It's now well past both times and I'm still looking at a static Channel 6 logo.

OK, 10.25 am on the dot. The Channel 6 logo disappears, the 3e one appears with a voiceover quickly announcing it's "3e - the new name for Channel 6" and straight into Party Of Five.

One of the most unceremonious changeovers ever.

Oh, and the on-screen logo is HUGE!

Oh dear. That's not very professional looking (or sounding). How about a transparent logo (and not a JPEG).

The logo for 3e is dreadful - first time I seen it I thought, ahh, the E from Eircom is doing a few jobs on the side! :)

The name is also very poor, but no worse than the equally dreadful Channel 6.

All we need do now is sit back and wait for TV3 to kick up a fuss about their location in the Sky EPG...

Channel 6's logo and name are ten times better then 3e, however it is hard to quantify how bad 3e's name and logo are.

Sky operate their EPG on a first come first served basis [exlcluding the 'must carry' national stations and the +1 variants]. ITV2 (in its current form) dates from 1998, where as Channel 6 only launched in 2006. Some broadcasters have even paid others for their EPG slots.

3e is in a poor position I think, but there's not much they can do about it. BBC2 (142) is the furtherest I would venture down in the entertainment section of the EPG slot myself.

Have Channel 6 / 3e fixed that annoying aspect ratio bug they suffer from? (e.g. The Office (a 16:9 recording) is squashed and shown in 4:3).
