Havent even bothered to change the name on Sky actually

I don't think TV3 can change it, they have to get Sky to do it.
Sky's New Year EPG change freeze ends tomorrow, so I would expect it to change some time tomorrow morning.

Any screenshots of the new DOG for both TV3 and 3e? Do they actually broadcast in widescreen or is it chopped?

Sky operate their EPG on a first come first served basis [exlcluding the 'must carry' national stations and the +1 variants]. ITV2 (in its current form) dates from 1998, where as Channel 6 only launched in 2006. Some broadcasters have even paid others for their EPG slots.

3e is in a poor position I think, but there's not much they can do about it. BBC2 (142) is the furtherest I would venture down in the entertainment section of the EPG slot myself.

ITV2 can thank the launch of ITV3 for its EPG position. At the time when ITV launched onto satellite, it got 103 for ITV1, but the earliest position that ITV2 could get was 200-odd. But when ITV3 was about to launch without an EPG position confirmed, ITV bought out BSkyB's stake in "Granada Sky Broadcasting", and in a stroke, it ceased broadcasting "Plus" or Granada Plus as it used to be called, at 5pm. ITV3 launched at 9pm. Since then, old repeats of Coronation Street have been absent from the screens.

This also had the knock-on effect of relegating "Men and Motors" down the EPG, when at one stage, it was way up there.

BBC 1 NI's first EPG position in the Republic was something like 217.

It is possible, that as Doughty Hanson own a stake in both TV3 and Setanta, that 105 might be there...

TV3 is pretty much 100% owned by Doughty Hanson, with some share with management.

Doughty Hanson have stake in Setanta through TV3. TV3 own the stake in Setanta.

Perhaps they should just call 3e 3€

I really hate the new logos, I thought G.O.L.D was bad.

The new logo seems like it was rushed and very little thought has gone into it. The little e character reminds me of the BBC3 characters when it first launched. The colours are also horrible, it looks like an ad for some sort of eircom /meteor mobile phone product.

I don't mind the logo itself. But the new TV3 presentation is truely awful, and like something out of the 1980s. It seems like they knocked it up in about 15 minutes using a 3D graphics programme.

The logo is just the number 3

    Are they selling to Viasat?

No thought, no imagination, the worst re-brands I have come across.

But what is more confusing is their mixed messages. TV3 still uses the "TV" but all idents just have 3. On the news earlier, the so-called launch, they referred to the new Channel as TV3e. It's all over the place.

I really can not see why there wasn't room for TV3, 3e and Channel 6. I feel we've lost a channel for what will be a repeats +12 hour channel.

I can't say I agree, quite a bit of the 80s presentation was outstanding. Can't beat the 1982 Channel 4 blocks or 1989/1990 Sky One ident. I'd say it's symbolic of 2009 alright, rubbish television from almost all angles.

C4 have kept their iconic 4, I mean C4s promos and idents are amazing.

Sky One :( the 1989 sky one is very American and a bit tacky. But still much more going on then this TV3 rubbish.

It's now 3e on the Sky EPG.

I don't think the new TV3 "3" logo is really a logo, it's not distinctive enough.

But if you turn it on it's side it looks a bit like Mickey Mouse's shadow in front of a fat arse.

It's about time TV3's text service was given a re-vamp also, appearing on both TV3 and 3e. It's ironic that the only way to view 3e's schedule by teletext is to switch to RTE's Aertel!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

If the revamp of the TV service is lazy, the revamp of the Channel 6 website was done as an after thought.

They basically removed C6s logo replaced it with 3es, and failed to update any of it.

As for ThreeText, that hasn't been working since before christmas. 180 does work, and all of the channels schedules are for around the 13th of Dec.

IMO ThreeText will now only be used for subtitles, I wonder if the subtitles are still working.

Very few peogrammes on TV 3 actually have subtitles though. A useless channel with now a useless spin-off and a useless teletext service. Great!

TV3 and 3e must provide access to their services for deaf/hard of hearing viewers. A legal requirement.

Corronation Street, Emmerdale have subtitles but I will let you come to your own conclusions as to why they have subtitles.

3e have no Text service at the moment.

So, do you think 3e will appear on DTT anytime soon then? Probably not, but would it go on the RTÉ MUX when it launches or will it be made go on a seperate multiplex?

An article about the name change on DigitalSpy suggests the 3e channel is to mimic the relationship that ITV1 has with ITV2. Whereby high profile shows are shown on TV3 and spinoff shows will appear on 3e.

I believe they already did this with The Apprentice recently.

No The Apprentice: You're Fired was not produced for TV3 version. They repeated the show on Channel 6.

It was suggested that The Apprentice:You're Fired will be produced and shown on 3e.

However having no faith what so ever in TV3. The following shows will appear for the 2009/2010 season can you wait?

    CelebAir
I'm A Celeb.... Get me out of here! NOW! (Was shown last year on C6)
    XtraFactor

And any other Celeb reality spin off available on ITV2. :(

Oh! I am giving them 2 months before Coro St starts being repeated on 3e.

3e will hopefully never reach DTT. If it does I can only hope it is a pay channel on BOXER, it does not deserve to be free.

As I like to call the channel 3emmerdale. It's useless, it should swap places with DCTV or buzz tv, at least they try to be original. The vision that was Channel 6 is gone.

What vision did Channel 6 have? I must of missed that one! All of a sudden people are bigging up C6 since it has dissapeared just to have a dig at TV3. It is as if it were some sort of TV goldmine when in reality it was just another poor mans Sky1.

If Channel 6 was the poor man's Sky 1, the 3e is the Famine Starved man's ITV2.

If C6 want to get any worst then it already was, well its done it.

I think Channel6 certainly had vision when it launched. It was aimed at 18-35 year olds and had themed nights like girls night and boys night. It used the weekends to repeat popular shows from during the week.

When it launched I watched several shows I had never seen before like House, Numb3rs and 24

But after a year or so it started repeating shows, and adding very little new content to it's schedule. That for me was when it went down hill. But I still watched it more often than I watched tv3.

Taken from the N2 relaunch of 1998!

For me it was the fact that it was giving some Irish Talent a chance on their music shows. I am sure many bands will miss Nightshift.

It never had any vision. It was a poor Lowest Common Denominator cheap copy of Sky1 ( Sky 1< 1.5% viewing time in UK and Ireland).

    Old US repeats mostly.

It never had as much content as TV3, and it is pointless bad copy of ITV without even the redeeming feature of much regional content.
