being a comp geek, there viruses for macs, its just they target windows cause it a more used OS :) ive never had a virus on my comp, then again i know what im doing. anyway

i completely love running. i dunno why. but the best thing to do is listen to trance/dance music. the beat is really good for running along too and its just full of energy is you listen to the right track. and its graet to listen to whenever your not running too :)

Well i went for my first run today, it was hard work as i am totally unfit. I was begging for the man to tell me I had ran enough and to walk for 90 seconds :D. But i managed to last the 30 minutes hopefully it will get easier :)

Went for my second run on the 'couch to 5k' programme last night, sore knees today and tight calves as well, although I did tackle more hills. Someone please tell me it'll get easier. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent pair of trainers for running in (mine are fit for nothing apart from digging the garden). I don't want to spend a fortune anything up to about £60 -£70 would do.

I got a nice pair from SportsDirect, Adidas ones £30 quid reduced from £50 odd. Sometimes TKMaxx has ones and JJB often has a sale section.:D

I went for my second one this morning too im just running around football pitches until i get my fitness up a bit. Only thing is its quite embarrassing because people see me running for 60 seconds then walking for 90 im sure they think im a joke lol. I found it a bit easier today so thats a good sign I guess. Just got to keep going :D

birmingham runner or start fitness online do last years asics/new balance/saucony trainers at really reduced prices..... go to up and running or athletic stores in belfast and get your gait and running style assessed and that means you will get the right type of running shoe.... it makes such a difference having proper fit and support, less damage to your tootsies and feet. take it from someone who knows, i over pronate so need to have to correct trainers or i suffer! :D

I know exactly how you feel, once the fitness levels increase i'm gonna have to work on the speed, thats why i was wanting a decent pair of trainers to help cushion the impact on the dodgy knees a bit, cause i know they'll take a battering once I increase the distance and speed

nike air's are good i think. i like the feel of them

plus, they look pimp!!! well my 2 pairs do haha. just if they have that 'stuff' material they get dirty easy

and if they get squeaky, lift the sole and pour some talc powder in and shake them all about. if it doesnt work, add more talc

I second this advice. Best shop to get sorted!!!. (Up & Running) The guys in there are great and will sort you out. Its best to get the right shoes if we all are going to do lots of running!!!. Belvior forest is also great for training. Its a mixture of hills, flat, offroad and paths. Good prep for GV.

Can you tell that I love running:D

All was going well untill I took an almighty cramp in one of my legs(so unfit) now im hobbling about like, i don't know what like, something that hobbles i suppose. I hope its not going to set the training back to much. Anyone out there know anything abount cramp prevention and rehabilitation.

Belvoir forest park is a fab place to go for a run, lots of scenery to keep the mind occupied and time goes so much quicker.... treadmill is sooo boring, i cannot stand it!

Have a 5 minute brisk walk prior to starting your run, drink plenty of water and stretch after your run....very important!!!!

Thanks for the advice, I don't think the lack of warmup was the problem, probably a lack of general fitness, although to be honest I may not have been sufficently hydrated on the day I was out running. Still Im not having too much bother today, so maybe tomorrow it'll be time for the feet to hit the street again. I read somewhere that a lack of potassium and magnesium in the diet can be a precursor to cramp when training. So i'll have to start munching more green leafy vegtables and bananas. I'll keep you all posted on how I get on. Again thanks for taking the time to reply Surfrunner, I bow to the superior knowledge of anyone as far as running goes.:)
