    They'd never be that tough!!! I'd sooner sell a kidney!!!

    Ah, but you only have two of those and I'm reliably informed that you need to keep at least one of them.

    Out of curiosity, how much would you get for a single second-hand kidney on the black market?

    I'm guessing the blood would be pumping to places not so helpful for catching bad people! And besides... I said it'd be good for flexibility not CV :D

    And as for you MGH! I'm afraid I'm not into the gentle slapping thing ;)

    Just back from the Gym there. Noticable improvements from the other week, where I could just about manage 10 mins jogging 0.70 miles. Today, I managed a full 20 minutes and 1.6 miles. It's still short of the recommended fitness level entering Garnerville, but there's still time. ;)

    well dun keep at it. it took me a while to do the 3.1 miles within the time limit and then christmas happened. im only back on the fitness train and i think it helps to just stick at it. put it this way it took me 27 years to become this unfit im hardly gonna reverse it in 1 session!!

    the push pull should only give you any bother if you are about 5' 2" and under about 8 stone if you need to do anything try push ups and a rowing machine, there used to be, might still be a shuttle run/bleep test but it was not something you had to pass you just did it to try and improve your overall fitness, the only things you have to complete are the push pull (with a target weight)and the PCA (against the clock) you have to run 5km but if you do not complete it within 30 mins or so they arent happy but you dont fail

    Good advice there. The push pull test is going to measure explosive strength, so I'd suggest doing some plyometric exercises as the best way to prepare for that. Plyometrics are just exercises designed for explosive power, so for the pushing part I'd suggest something like clap press ups. Without access to a gym it's hard to suggest anything for pulling, but I would advise to grab random strangers in the street and yank them towards you. This will also help with your fitness, as when doing this you will often find the need to run away so you don't get beaten up. :D

    :eek: I have been running the 5K on my treadmill inside 32 minutes easily for the past few months. Lost a bit of motivation recently as convinced myself I was out this campaign so for the past few weeks have only been running off and on. Anyhoo....decided I actually like being a bit fitter and with my OH nagging at me (he loves running - strange man) decided to get out on the roads for the first time for a run (or a jog very slowly as it happened :() on Sunday. Hmmmppph....I did the 5K without stopping OK but it took me 40(!!!) minutes :eek: and my legs were jelly by the time I got home. Damn treadmill lulled me into a false sense of security and I thought I was home in a boat. My personal trainer (Mr MBC) is taking me out running tonight again and I'm not looking forward to it to be honest. It's like a form of torture.

    Sigh....this better all be worth it ;):D

    Next time you should really make more effort and put your finest heels on, your really letting the female side down lol:D:)

    You guys are worrying me. Honestly, I could maybe jog 2k without stopping, then my lungs turn to stew. I'm improving very slowly.

    They'd hardly boot someone off the course for being diabolical on the 5k run? Would they? After all it doesn't form part of the actual assessment.

    On the treadmill I can manage 1.7 miles in 20 minutes. Thats on the TREADMILL!!!

    :o:o:mad::mad::mad::(:(:(

    Hi Mr Fug

    When I first started running/jogging on the treadmill I managed 1.5 minutes before having to walk or die. I kid you not, I really was that unfit. Within 6 weeks of building this up slowly on a pretty much daily basis (back when I still felt motivated :() I was able to comfortably run the 5K inside 32 minutes without having to stop/walk at all. Obviously this was on the treadmill and I didn't realise it would be so different/much harder on the open road :eek:. Anyway....my point being, you will be amazed how quickly you build your fitness up. It's my lungs that are causing most of my problems too (although sometimes my legs like to join in). According to Mr MBC the key is to get loads of oxygen into your lungs during a run so lots of long deep breaths (not as easy as it sounds, I know!). Also, as far as I am aware, if you cannot complete the 5K without stopping in GV they give you a training programme to get you up to speed (so to speak) and as long as you put the effort in while you're there you will be fine.
