    If almost collapsing at the end counts as a side effect, then YES! Last week's tempo almost killed me, this week wasn't too bad. Can see some improvement comparing my run 48hrs after last week's tempo, to this evening's run which is 48hrs since this week's tempo.

    Your 85min half is a lot more recent than mine! Mine was in August last year (Longford), so you're a notch or two above me.

    Great feeling on the run today. Kept HR and pace consistent all the way round (well, last mile and a half were a little quicker to bring my average pace below 7:30 :rolleyes:). Very happy with that, especially in that heat.

    Weekly total of 45 miles. Rest day tomorrow and then hit for 50 miles next week.

    Disappointed to miss my Tuesday run. Fell asleep on train on way home and just felt too sluggish when got home. Made up for it with 6 days running this week, and 50 miles.

    Have four days running up until Thursday, then an enforced rest for a few days. Hope to get 30 miles done over next 4 days, with a focus on some speedwork.

    Not much mileage this week (25.1 miles), which was planned. Had some minor surgery yesterday, which although unrelated to running means I need to take a few days rest. Hope to be back on the road on Monday.

    Two quality sessions this week - good tempo session on Monday, which felt pretty comfortable, and did a "quarter-marathon" at PMP on Thursday. Good confidence booster to hold the pace over rolling hills.

    Well, the after-effects of that surgery have kept me off the road for the past 10 days, and only back running today. Have reconsidered my marathon plans and have decided to give Berlin a miss, and wait until London next April for my sub-3 attempt. Realistically, Berlin was a big ask this year as training as it's a very busy year, and am way behind where I need to be to have a decent stab at Berlin. Will focus on shorter stuff for the rest of the year and hopefully be in a strong position in January to have a decent attempt at London.

    The more I think about a few months of shorter events, the more I'm looking forward to it.

    Went out for a 13 or 14 miler this morning. Was one of those runs where I ran hard and loved every second of it (well, maybe last 2 miles were tough!). HRM has stopped working, so didn't have that slowing me down.

    Half mara PB is 84 and a bit (Longford last year), so was 4 mins outside that.

    Grand. Intervals are not my preferred type of session, but can stick through them once I get started. Probably did them a bit too fast, and will consider developing it more towards a pyramid session (up to 1200/1600) as that will probably give me more benefit.

    My first 10k race - hard to believe!

    Wasn't feeling too great at the start. Being stuck in traffic on the M1 stressed me out a bit, with a 40 minute journey taking me an hour and twenty. Arrived at registration 5 minutes before the race was due to start. Fortunately I had texted Shels and he picked up my race number for me, and also start was delayed by 10 mins or so. This gave me time for some warm up and nice friendly chats with fellow boardsies before the start. This helped me put it all behind me when the gun went....

    ....went off far too fast, and a sub 6 minute first mile meant that the glowing singlet of Stupid Private was not too far in front of me. Bad news, this meant I was going to pay a big price in the latter stages as my training wasn't up to this type of racing. However, a quick glance over my shoulder showed that christeb was not far off my shoulder, and wasn't going to allow him get in front of me as his training is better than mine and would probably stay in front of me if he overtook me! Got into a bit of a tussle with another runner and we were taking turns leading each other for a km each. Got into a nice flow and kept ticking off the miles at around 6:23ish pace. Dropped my pace helper at start of second circuit and coming round a corner spotted BeepBeep67, who I knew was above me in the handicapping so was a good target. Was closing him really quickly so guessed he was struggling and snuck past him at 6km. Just kept picking runners off from this point and felt good as no-one was getting past me. About 500m before the finish I snuck in behind a group of 3 runners, and with a bit of pace on the last corner I got around them and a strong finish kept me in front of them and gave me something to race for in the final couple of hundred metres.

    Crossed the line in 38:34 to see a very relaxed looking Slogger Jogger waiting there. Automatic PB. :D

    Great race - and a strong perforamce from KevinKilbane means I'm looking forward to defending my team title next year.

    well done peckham, great run. we both did really well. i got a PB myself. and my race went so similar to yours. i actually passed out woddle at 6km, i was shocked, but he stopped, and then eventually caught up with gerard65 about 8km. also, at the last turn, 300-400 metres to go, i was in a little group, so close at the line, sure myself and another guy finished with the exact same times.
    delighted we won, i saw the pics of us with the trophy. looking forward to defending it!

    :eek: I've got swine flu! :eek:

    Haven't been feeling great since Sunday, took Mon and Tues off work, and went back yesterday. Wasn't feeling too great all day, so went to the doctor yesterday evening, who is pretty certain it's swine flu.

    Means no running until next Monday at the earliest....this doctor specialises in sports medicine (particularly cycling) and knows my running background quite well. His warning about training with a flu, had the words "potentially fatal" in it, so that's enough for me to hear!

    Don't know where I picked it up, but there's a chance that it was at the Pearl Izumi race on Saturday. If anyone else at that race on Saturday isn't feeling great, it might be worth them getting it checked out.
