    Rest Day

Starting off the week with a rest day. Flight got in late last night and I was in work at 8am this morning so just staying awake is a challenge at the moment.

I'll be launching myself into my training again tomorrow. Happy to add as well that I've gone from 10st 6lbs to 9st 3lbs in the last 3 months :) Now that the hol is over should start shedding a few more pounds and running up some more miles :D

3 miles in 30 mins again today. Tough Tough Tough..... Having a week off so soon into my training was clearly not a good idea! :( Thankfully I don't have any other full week off planned until September. I'll just have to make sure that there's a gym in the hotel in Poland for my brothers wedding so I don't miss another week

    Rest Day

taking a day off today - found yesterday very tough. I also didn't drink enough water at all. Filling up on the H2O today though but feeling pretty run down (I know, I know, I should be feeling refreshed after having a week off!)

Had to take two days off the training again :(
I have continued to walk to and from work so that's another 3.2 miles this week. Heading to Athenry for the weekend so planning a walk today and tomorrow at the very least up there.

Only managed to cover 2.5 miles in the 30mins. Found it really really tough. I've taken pretty much 2 weeks off so I feel like I'm starting again. Worst session I've had so far. Walked more than half of it!! :(

    Hi Munster_Gal

Dont be too hard on yourself. Remember how far you have come since the beginning!

To be honest i have had a similar couple of weeks since the mini marathon.

I have been doing a few short runs (3 miles) a few times a week but walking a lot of it and then tonight i think i got to just over 2 miles and gave up (part of that though is down to my crappy day at work )

i think part of the reason is that i dont have something really concrete to train for in the same way that i had the mini marathon looming when i initally started my training log. So i think i am definitely going to have to commit myself to the DCM just to make myself get off my back side !!

we are all entitled to a few off weeks or off runs but what really counts is getting yourself back out there and not being put off (how cheesy do i sound? :D)

keep up the good work and take a quick read over this log again to remind yourself that in the beginning you could only run for a few minutes and now you are doing 30 minutes non-stop

    pep talk now over :p

    Rest Day

Thanks MissMacMacMac. ;) I'm getting back onto the treadmill again this evening. :( Starting my Marathon Training on Monday and I'm not where I wanted to be with my training. Thinking of signing up for the Adidas Race Series as well for some practice over the summer

2.9 Miles in 30mins. Walked at least half of it. Found it very very tough even though I'm drinking 2ltrs of water a day. i'm wondering though.....I've cut way back on the amount of carbs that I'm eating and now thinking that maybe that's effecting my energy levels?????

Anyway - have another 2 miles to add as well from walking to and from work.

Very possible... Is the cutting back on carbs for weight loss? It's more important to replace bad carbs with good carbs rather than cutting back in my opinion, especially if you're trying to keep up training while doing it... Take a look at the nutrition sticky on the Fitness forum (I think someone posted a link to it before in A/R/T) for some ideas...

Yeah it's mainly for some weight loss. I'm usually fairly good with eating veg and fish and stuff but since I've moved back to mammy and daddy's it's not as fresh (I've noticed the my mother over cooks things a bit).

    Rest Day

Taking a rest day today. Back on the treadmill again tomorrow and once more over the weekend and then straight into the Marathon Training on Monday.

Thinking about entering the Adidas race series as well. Depends on how Tantipie is fixed for it I think. Couldn't go doing something stupid like that without her :D

    Rest Days

Three rest days in a row :(
Drinking yesterday evening and being hung over all day today got in the way of my training. I'm officially off the drink lol.

I worked up 2 miles on Thursday and Friday though with my walking to work as normal.

    Rest Day

Sunday ended up being a rest day as well. I start my 18 week program today though so need to get more diciplined with the exercise from today.
I've decided to follow Hal Higdon's Novice Plan :o

If I find this tough I'll go back to the one in the Non Runner's Marathon Guide but I should be ok for the first 3 days training anyway as I've been covering the 3 mile mark fairly consistently. It's the 6 miles at the wekeend that's going to be the problem me thinks

    Week 1 Day 1

    3 Miles - 31'21"

I only ran for around half of the session. It's harder that it seems to be getting for some reason. Tomorrow is a rest day but I'm gonna go for a walk with my friends 2 dogs (I'm on babysitting duty while she's away for the week). I probably won't follow the plan exactly but will get all 4 runs done at least and I'm walking 5 days a week to and from work as well so I'm not overly concerned about getting in a cross training day every week.

    Rest Day

Typical that my rest day is the day the sun is shining! Took the dogs for a small walk. Nothing major. The dogs are a bit nuts and are hard to handle. 3 miles again tomorrow.......

31 mins for 3 miles run/walk is pretty good going. How hard are you working when you run?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭Munster_Gal

until my lungs hurt pretty much :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,095 ✭✭✭--amadeus--

Apologies if I'm repeating what you've already been told but I think you're working too hard on your running segments. You're averaging under 10:30 on a run / walk which means that you're probably running at close to 9 min / mile pace (assuming a power walk of 13 mins / mile or more).

Have you heard of "conversational pace" running? You should be able to hold a conversation when running - if you can't, if you're getting out of breath and your lungs are hurting, then you're working too hard and running too fast. Slow it right down so that you are doing a running motion but at just above walking speed and I guarantee you that you'll complete your 3 miler without walking and feel a whole lot better. When I was just starting a lot of my runs were averaging 11:20/mile and more - it's not about the speed it's about the distance!

Sure I'll give it a go tomorrow evening and see how I get on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭Munster_Gal

    Week 1 Day 2

    3 miles 34'32"

My legs feel grand during the running it's the breathing that causes me the probs. I was jogging at the same pace I would normally do my fast walk.
I've another 3 mile to do this week before the 6 mile at the weekend

    Thanks Amadeus.
Still blaming you for the fact that I'm even thinking about the DCM :(

    Rest Day

I had planned my 3rd 3 mile run yesterday evening but a family dinner with the future in laws kinda got in the way.
Anyway - 3 mile planned for this evening.

I officially entered the DCM and the Adidas Race Series this morning so I'm now working towards....

    5 mile race - July
    10 mile race - August
    Half Marathon - September
    Dublin City Marathon - October

My poor legs won't know what's hit them over the coming months
