Can anyone tell me what's going on rag week? I know lots of people say they're looking forward to it, but i'm not quite sure what's going on.

Drinking outside in Kilmurry during Charity Week? If the village is anything like it was last year then good luck with that. Kilmurry was like Fort Knox last year.

To the 2 girls sitting 3 rows away from me in the Library, can you PLEASE SHUT UP!
They have been yapping for 30 minutes now - very distracting :(
Do they not realise some people actually want to work?

Did you try asking them nicely to quiet down?...

Group projects seem to be turning out to be everything I've expected.

The 4 of us agreed to e-mail each other the work we had done so far and then work on the sections. Got 1 e-mail. Everything perfect lots of work done with the entrepreneur. Got the next e-mail. No hint of an interview having taken place as it was just a load of theory that looked copied and pasted from a book. And then I've received no third e-mail.

So I'm preparing for the fact that with one week to the submission date only two of the interviews have been done.

    I hate group projects.

Ah yes. The E&I "Bring an international entrepreneur to college day" project.

What a joyful experience that was >.<

We didn't have the full thing together until the morning of the deadline, one guy dropped out of the group unexpectedly in favour of another on the Monday before the Thursday deadline

And stuff like this is why I hate group projects. I have a high QCA that I'd wish to maintain, so I don't really like the idea that I have to suffer because some other people didn't do the work.

Anyway I'm just going to ask them tomorrow did they do an interview and if they didn't I'm just going to say it to the lecturer to see what'll happen.

Ditto. I think group work is friggin unfair!

I hate it when someone says they'll do something but they won't. Had a group presentation for academic writing. Was left hanging by 2 members who dropped out but hadn't the decency to tell me. I finished what i could. I'd say the tutor was a bit sympathetic to me and let me pass. I much prefer doing work on my own. You only have to rely on yourself.

    "Hello Everyone,

We are 1st year engineering students and we have to complete market research for a project. We would greatly appreciate if you could complete this quick survey for us regarding appliances' power use in standby.

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QTHDRGT

    Regards,

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

They may have the excuse of being stupid first years but to be honest anyone using the Year mailing lists to email everyone should be shot.

    Yeah saw that,

I thought that wasn't allowed, as in you literally aren't able to send the emails because its restricted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭highlydebased

They'd need to get the permissions added to their account to send to an all students address, I'm full sure

Abusing the Class Rep privileges then maybe?

ALLStudentsYX@studentmail.ul.ie and just replace the x for 4 for 4th years, 3 for 3rd years etc

Doesn’t take much trying to figure it out

You got a hyper link to a survey, big deal,
If you don’t like it delete it.

    Just like any other spam.

I'm a rep and can only email my class list.

Issue being it shouldn't have been sent in the first place. A lax attitude to this email will result in another 100 of them.

Plus this is the bitch thread.

There was an email sent out also during the week about the wind surfing club (I think). Again, same story - how have they privileges?! If they can do it - soon we will all be getting emails from every club and soc advertising their events!!
Don't get me wrong, I'll all for advertising for fundraising etc - but all student emails are a bit much.

Lads, it's simple like, if you want to send an email to all students in a certain year you use a special recipient format. I won't tell you what it is, but there is one. I'm in engineering too (so expect a spam survey email from us soon too :p haha). ITD will allow loads of spam email to circulate the college on behalf of courses or modules. But if a club or society were to ever use this as advertising it would cause an uproar from them of the highest order. As a society chairman I think it makes no sense, but students are fully intitled to sent campus wide emails about surveys and stuff while C&S can't try to advertise their club/society at all without consequence.

The dumbest thing of all is that to send out one campus wide email (to all students of all years) actually causes the entire server system to completely shutdown for a set amount of time, now I can't remember the specific time but it's a long time for the network to be down all the same.

All clubs and socs haven't got all student email privileges without the consent of ITD. And they are typically against clubs and socs using the system in such a manner.

has no problem with students asking for help with project related surveys. But if someone (usually a member of staff) mails me selling their honda civic I will f**k them out of it from a height.

now, my bitch for today is not being able to use the bloody bank machine on the way home because some concert is on three hours later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Poxyshamrock

There's a bank machine outside the Arena and also another one in Red Raisins (which isn't too far from the SU courtyard).

Although, I do agree about the lack of ATMs on campus.

ammm which one would that be ???????????

on a serious note however those first year modules of engineering maths must be designed to brake you because no one would want to study maths ever after them

dont wanna name and shame but a certain female russian one, if you do any form off engineering you will understand:D
