    What a legend idea.

4 years here and I've never thought of that.

What can I say cson, I'm resourceful! :D

I presume they're locked so people don't sleep there?

Also to prevent theft, a few years ago there were a few lads caught making off with some of the large televisions they have in some of the rooms. Can't remember when exactly probably around my last year in UL which was 2007.

Don't mind leaving cert students using the library but wish they would shut up, i don't particularly care for their social lives:nothing personal) have taken to using venus labs, much more appealing.

Glad the labs are over, needn't worry about being forced to move off a computer.

don't agree at all 2 leaving cert students by me today would not shut up!! we pay the fees after all aren't we entitled to our own study space specially when you see ul students struggling to get a seat at 11

I filled out the application to become an orientation guide in early April, just wondering when do you find out if you have been successful or not?

Came into library at 9. Fella beside be came in at same time. He got up 5 mins after arriving and has still not come back almost 2 hours later. Very unfair on people trying to find a seat.

I always thought there was some rule that if a desk was left unattended for so long then they would be removed.

There's also a rule about being silent...

And showing your Id card on the way in...

The rules are there, the enforcement isn't sadly.

Don't know how any of you can study in the library tbh, its roasting, loud and full of people you know who'll distract you.

Touche. In my defense I've been on Co op since January and have forgotten how bad the library can get. :D

That secruity gard that has been there for years actually hates me!
He always tells me to leave if I am down talking to someone in the foyer for all of two seconds during ANY week of the semester!
He actually followed me yesterday when I was looking for someone to drop off notes on my way home and when I turned back on my own direction he stopped me and actually asked me was I an actual UL student! He has had numerous bump in's with me over the last THREE years!
    Grrrrrrrrrrrr

He spends his whole time there walking around, occasionally shushing people having a quick hushed conversation (I mean literally "Hey, can I borrow your pen?" "Yeah, sure" "Thanks") then is nowhere to be found when there's a fecking full blown loud group conversation going on

    I know right!

I hate when he is working! Which is ALL the time really!

Yeah anytime he has shushed me or asked me to move on is when I have been after asking one question or just said hello to someone in the foyer!

And today he was walking around and not even doing his rightful job, like last year I was gone from my desk for ten mintues came back had a notice on it that if I was gone for longer than 20 mintues my stuff would be taken and someone else would have the spot!
He was walking around as I said, and had to have walked past me four or five times and never noticed that the two spots beside me were left vacant for a good THREE HOURS!

Cue for 30 mins in Student Academic Admin on Wednesday in search of a new student card, only to finally be seen and told that the card machine isn't working.

Come back today to collect the card which was left there for me and find them to be closed randomly for an hour with no sign, notice or anything.

With the exams so close, it's ironic I found today to be a relaxing day, got a bit done too. Was in early, went to stables to see bit of the wedding, left there when the mass started. Found a nice room to myself and studied history, grabbed a few nice cans of coke and panned out in front of plassey house. Got the politics back, went well, so it was good day overall.

Jeez, I know it's a bank holiday and all but it's also exam week ya know? All the security guys on today are covering for the regular guys and have not one notion about the campus.

Also, the off-campus link for the Library is not working. Sucky UL :(

library page won't work. Is there any other way to access databases

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,298 ✭✭✭freyners

oh well....i guess i should be thankful it isn't the whole ul page gone down this time:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭mud

It's a load of bollox is what it is.

Can't study in the library because people won't STFU, can't study at home because the databases are down.

    Shabby, stupid crap.

Access off campus databases from library at this website https://login.proxy.lib.ul.ie

Thank you very much. I usually use the UL main page and log into the proxy server from there but that is not working.

    Many thanks :)

Again, I know that it is a bank holiday, but I thought that the fact that there was no where to get food/tea/coffee after 5pm (?) was a bit much, especially with exams starting tomorrow.
Red Raisins could really do with a coffee machine up there!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 755 ✭✭✭cup of tea

Printing closed in the library after 4clock was largely unnecessary. Would it have hurt to leave the room open?

Starbucks might have an issue with that :P
