Why is Miley Cyrus on it? I didnt realise she was that well known in the UK.......And what theme is it next week?

Pop Week; the contestants have to sing one Britney song and then an American pop song.

And it's now solely down to the public vote so we have seen the last of the bottom two system.

Oh yeah that's it! At least that is one positive for Ruth, a lot of songs to choose from there that will be fantastic for her.

i dont understand why Diana is getting so much stick on this?? shes the only one on the show that i wait to see week in week out. theres someting very unique about her, and because she got through one week without a vote, shes getting a grilling???
i dont think she has been at her best for the last 2 weeks but up to that, she was unbelievable imo.
her performances in boot camp as cheyrl said wer 'captivating.' shes the only original performer on the show i think.
how many more xfator or pop idol etc winners does there have to be where they win, release 1 or 2 singles and disappear.
maybe you either like her or ya dont, but i reckon shes excellent!

"Original" means new, fresh, inventive, novel, not copying anyone etc...Diana is not doing this anyway. She's only gone and increased her Dolores O'Riordan warbling, and yeah, maybe ten years ago someone with big messy hair, and pale lipstick would have been original, but now, no.

Every second girl I pass in the street dresses like her and many have a fake accent (funny to notice the Galway girls her with their D4 accents, er where did that come from?!).

Back to what i always say, yes she has talent, and potential, but unfortunately her originality is now manufactured, her whiny voice is often drowned out by the backing vocals (as it was on sat) and no one has aid her yelps sound country, which, they do. It's all been overdone at this stage, and i think she's missed the niche market form two years ago or so when the Skins scene if you can call it that was about

In relation to the incestuous ones (same difference) - was it just me, or was the female one's fringe somehow knitted to her forehead Sat night ...? Not a good look!!

No, she's getting a grilling because she's terrible and each week she murders another song. It's a case of the Emperor's Clothes and I'm just waiting for people to realise this and each week that passes I'm more dumbfounded. Even Gary Barlow was saying how fantastic she was. WTF? Only for the other comments on here I'd be convinced it was some elaborate hoax to take the p1ss out of me, seriously!

Actually I think if Hallelujah is the winners song I'd say Ruth would do a decent version of it, lets hope she gets the votes next Saturday.

Diana...theres someting very unique about her
    No there isn't actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

Ugh, people only think she's unique because the judges say it all the time!

None ever said James Blunt or James Morrison were unique

    I already hate that word!

Its the same with people sayin she sounds like Delores O Riordan as if they came to the conclusion themselves, when I bet people are just copying the poster who said it first, and didnt even know what a Dolores O Riordan was!

That's why the voting is always so fuccked up, noone will think for themselves anymore

    [/rant] :P

Anyone goin to the Live tour in the O2 in march????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,105 ✭✭✭LadyMayBelle

(In case that's reference to me bringing up Dolores O'R, I acknowledged Diana sounded like Alanis Morrisette with her yelps, but when someone suggested DOR, I realised that's more like who she sounds like..not stealing anyone elses ideas there juts affirming them!)

We don't want no aggro, I'm saving it for saturday!! Let the judgement commence:D:D

actually ive said from before the live shows that diana is one of the best, and i stick to it. you can go back and check the comments i left here.
and yes i do think her voice is original.laura(was) and ruth are 2 beltchers-roar their songs ,yes they have big voices, great voices but, ive heard it before. alex is another whitney wannabe. eoghan is nothing special. jls are sh1te.
i cant understand how ye dont think theres something about diana that just makes you want to watch her over and over, i suppose its a matter of opinion.

i think gary barlow would have a better clue then you.

That's the thing, I would've thought so too. But I think it's just a case of towing the "company line" so to speak.

Think about it, Louis gave the Brother & Sister cult show great praise after their frankly creepy performance. Now do you really think he actually thought that they were good, especially after his previous comments? Of course not, he just has to tow the "company line" because there's been money invested in them and they have to make a return. And I wouldn't be surprised if Gary Barlow was told to fawn over Diana in a case of you scratch my back, etc., etc.

She sings with a lot of emotion, she looks great, she'd have a nice voice if she was given numbers within her vocal range (a high one - she executes low notes horrendously. "Executes" is right.) and gentle numbers, not "big" powerful ones. Her rendition of Take That's Patience was appalling at the chorus where she had to yell out the loud notes. And of course if she got rid of the yelping and ludicrous accent and forced croaky bits...

She is terrible most weeks but the judges sing her praises - it is like the show is being built around Diana winning which is a shame :( she also has an annoying hand

From the remaining contestants i'd like to see Ruth or Alexandra win as both are always consistantly good with their performances

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1089044/Im-cheat-Scandal-plagued-X-Factor-favourite-Diana-Vickers-denies-affair-special-treatment-claims.html

Diana Vickers has hit back at claims she has been given special treatment by producers of the X Factor, insisting ‘I’m not a cheat’.
She has also dismissed rumours that she has started a relationship with fellow contestant Eoghan Quigg, despite having a boyfriend waiting at home.

The 17-year-old has told of her recent low point after being accused of cheating by fans of the show, who were angry she was given an unprecedented ‘bye’ after coming down with laryngitis.

Anyone actually think this years X Factor is rubbish in comparison with recent years?

Re the whole Dianagate, the powers that be want her in the final. Thats why they constantly praise her, and manipulate the votes ie if Cowell thinks she is great, she must be great. If Cowell says she had a bad week but knows she can do better, then he must be right.

I loved the show for the last few years but am really not enjoying this one. Normally at this stage of the competition I would not dare miss a show, this year I am very meh.

I'm finding it really enjoyable. First year watching it beyond the auditions though.

Yeah, Diana is popular and that is being reinforced by the judges via positive feedback. Heh, I noticed Dannii didn't say one thing about her performance last week - she literally just told her she looked good... :)

Last year was the lowest point for me; Leon did not have the X Factor when he won but he did have potential. But now that he has released material we've seen that he won't be going anywhere but down. He's alright, but his god awful live performances will be the death of his career.

And there is the contestant who was heralded, Rhydian, but he doesn't have the X Factor either. He is fantastic but his target audience is very much concentrated at the classical fans. He will have a good career, but I don't think he will be world class.

Rhydian has the X Factor x1000.

Yeah, what was with that jerking around. My sister reckoned he'd had a few lines of coke. Such a shame :(. His jumpiness put me off him straight away but I quite liked his performances last year

I don't know. I mean for me having the X-Factor would be someone who's capable of captivating more than one audience; look at Leona, she attracts various demographs of age and musical taste. Even Shayne Ward has the potential to become big over the world given the right material to work with. I don't see Rhydian attracting beyond the classical audience.

Ha ha yeah. I remember his first performance live on the X Factor; nervous and jumpy as hell. Uncomfortable stuff to watch. But he did get better as he grew in confidence.

But in regards to the two singles that he has released this year, his tuning is so out of whack when singing live. And given how the material in itself is mediocre if he can't sing well live then it is just a train wreck.

No one will hold a candle to Jeff Buckley's version but i think maybe Ruth would come close

I can't agree that Leona appeals to anyone other than the pop market. The classical music industry is huge. The X Factor to me means discovering someone different, with real talent, no matter what their particular genre of music is. That's why it is not specifically called The Pop Factor, and I think Simon Cowell is looking for different types of artists. Shayne Ward and Leona are great as pop artists with great voices, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Rhydian is hugely talented. Look at people like Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. They're big all over the world and they don't sing pop songs.

For me Leona can appeal beyond the pop market as songs such as her cover of Run and Bleeding Love can strike a cchord with people who wouldn't usually be into pop music.

I agree that the classical music industry is huge. You can break various tough markets such as America, Europe, and Asia if you are at the top of your game. Andrea Bochelli and Sarah Brightman are at the top of their game and that's why they've broken these tough markets. Time To Say Goodbye is a genre-splitting song; it's difficult not to love it, regardless of your musical taste. I'm just not sure if I will be able to talk about Rhydian in this sense come a year or two down the line.
