hopefully you get seen soon, a GP is only going to be able to give you some lotions and potions at best which isn't going to do too much for you.

let us know how you get on if you get in to him today!

I was given antibiotics for my hands and more creams too. My hands are nearly non functional.
They are cracked so bad. So it's difficult to shower and wash myself. And of course i need to put creams on too. I can see my knees starting to build up again so i will need to treat that but it's hard to put cream on.

So difficult and so much effort.

That really doesn't sound good, did you have any improvement on it at all before it started to get worse? when is your next dermatology appointment?

Have you suggested sending a referral letter to see a dermatologist privately? you're going to be waiting far too long publicly.

Your going to be waiting a year at a minimum if your still going public. Failing that I would be considering going to A&E

My GP gave me a referral letter to go private. Have to borrow the money. But she said that too could take a long time.

I don't want to clog up A&E, or borrow from my elderly Mother but i don't have much of a choice really and i am not sure what A&E will do for me.

What hospital have you been sent to?

I was curious about this too.

It doesn't give a specific hospital. I have used a Dermatologist before when i had acne but that cost a lot, that was a famous one in south Dublin but it cured it. I had already spent thousands before on laser treatment that didn't work.

Now i have gone from oily skin to dry.

That’s unusual, referral letters are typically addressed to a particular consultant.

anyone have any improvements from trying to heal "leaky gut"

Something i have never tried to look at specifically outside of improving my diet (less junk food, alcohol etc).

Went to see a kinesiologist yesterday and their suggestion is to load up on L-glutamine and zinc then take some pro biotics after 4 weeks. I then found this video online.

This is a very common term and alternative approach to fixing the problem. It works for some people not for others

I’ve actually thought about revisiting this area, especially probiotics.

I've never been recommended to go down this route by a GP.

One thing I do remember is year ago, over xmas, when I was taking whey protein for the 1st time, my psoriasis was in pretty good shape. I couldn't figure it out as I was still drinking plenty. Watching that video yesterday made me go back and check did the whey protein have glutamine in it. Low and behold it did so I've ordered Zinc, L-Glutamin, Vitamins D3 and K2, hopefully i can see some improvement because i think this winter has been my worst.

So I've had psoriasis for over 23 years at this stage. I'm well used to managing it. Hate it but live with it. Anyway last summer I broke my left big toe. Just as it was stopping hurting after about 8 weeks (big toes are ridiculously sore to break) I got an agonising pain in my right big toe... Almost in sympathy. Lasted about a week or so. Stayed at the joint in the toe and actually started to move towards the nail. After a week or so more the nail at the cuticle looked bruised. But the time a month was up the pain was gone but it was clear the nail was affected. I started thinking psoriatic arthritis because of the pain and to hide things I painted my toenails. Been doing that ever since but a couple of weeks ago I noticed my toenail was thicker and softer at the cuticle end of the nail. It now has a big gouge out of it and when I removed the polish tonight the nail is a terrible yellow colour and it all looks quite wrong. I have 2 questions...

1.does it sound like I may be starting to get psoriatic arthritis?
    2. Do I see my dermatologist for this? Or do I need a different specialist?

Could be. Best advice is to go to.specialist, they may suggest steroid injection. I would suggest seeing a specialist to be sure

What specialist though? Stick with my dermatologist or get a rheumatologist?

Yep, at least it was another expensive one for me anyway. Different strokes for different folks.

Off all meat since 29th October, bar 2 instances of fish, with the last being at Christmas dinner. Mine has 99% cleared up and feeling better by the day, mentally and physically!

Absolutely buzzing that you’ve found a source that triggers it for you and you have it under control.

What are you using as a protein source?

Did you eat much meat before? I've tried it before but would find it hard to do long term, I didn't see any benefits when I tried it last, maybe lasted about 6 to 8 weeks before I put it back in my diet. I actually felt worse physically but possibly I should have been taking some form of protein supplements

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,086 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

I’d be slightly worried about constipation on a high protein diet, although some people say it makes you go more.

    Thanks a Mil!

Doing a lot of training, gym and running, I take creatine, 2 scoops of protein, a berocca and 100mg of omega 3 every day without fail. Also minimum 4 litres of water.

I used to be a big meat ester yeah, pretty much every day. I don't miss it at all to be honest. There's plenty of options these days as big companies are jumping on the bandwagon and if there is any itch there are quorn options etc. If I wanted a greasy takeaway after a night of the beer I can get a meatless meatball sub or a veggie burger!!

My weight fluctuates big time, last week for instance, last Saturday I was 13 stone even and yesterday 12.9. I eat what I want, when I want and let the training work it off!

Anyway. Sorry to be going on a veg rant. But it has worked for me (touch wood it stays like that!)

I see this cream I never heard of before.

    http://www.expresschemist.co.uk/dermal-psoriderm-cream-225-ml.html#.XkvJejKeSHs
    Dermal Psoriderm Cream 225ml

I got lecithin before to take orally, I got it in tesco and its in health food shops.
Psoriderm Cream is used for the treatment of sub-acute or chronic plaque psoriasis of the scalp or skin. Psoriderm Cream contains two main ingredients: coal tar and lecithin. Coal tar relieves itching and helps restore skin structure by slowing down the process of cell production. Lecithin softens the psoriasis scales and helps enhance the absorption of coal tar.
    Active Ingredients:
    Distilled Coal Tar 6% w/w, Lecithin 0.4% w/w

I wonder if you could mix lecithin in with other creams, the likes of vaseline to get a benefit. They only have a very small amount.

Coal tar is great for the itching. Not sure about anything else.

Due to take my next shot of Stelara next wednesday, usually around the week 11-12 mark my skin goes dry and some tiny patches of psoriasis comes back, so really want to take my shot next week.

This whole virus situation is starting to freak me out tho, how's everyone else feeling about it?

I did get a belt of the flu just before christmas and it was pretty intense, so i just don't know what to do.
