Secure Socket Layer encrypts transactions between IPs while a person may be doing something, the content is unknown and indecipherable. All that is apparent is that there is a connection to the server.

i assume its a program that just masks/disguises your IP

Masking does nothing, because at the end of the exchange it has to get demasked. Although you're probably right that this is probably what he is talking about, or maybe using a proxy server....ignorance is bliss I suppose!

Torrent = P2P I am talking about something else that is not P2P.

Think encrypted Mail and you are on the right track.

I never mentioned its being mysterious or new... several companies are already offering this as a selling point for their services.

Suits me just fine. Never received a letter from an ISP and never will.

Averaging 200GB (of free stuff) per month.

A bit OT but does anyone know how to update Peerguardian's IP lists.
Or know a good alternative to Peerguardian?

I'm not talking about p2p or torrents. I'm talking about anonymous communication over a network. You're probably talking about Usenet, its ok to say it its not illegal! And you're still not anonymous.

Why is it that Boards cannot differentiate IPs from the same company?

As you are probably aware already the US authorities have access to ALL UTube files for the last five year this was even before the Viacom court case saga. The Patriot act gave them the right to access anything if they suspect terrorism, They know what UTube videos you are watching and what stuff you are interested in and have watched in the past, They can tell immediately whether you are watching videos or downloading / leaching from an illegal torrent site, These guys are not stupid.

Good for them. Hope they have fun wasting their resources keeping track of everyone in all the countries in which they have no jurisdiction.

    +1
Technically "yes" but the authorities have ways and means around this, they can breach any privacy if they suspect "terrorism" or "child porn". They have the right to snoop through anything on your computer and can do from a remote source any time you are on line if they suspect you. What ever you think you have to block any authorities from snooping through your PC they will be one up on you.

Yes, and if they want they can plantz the evidenz even while my computer is turned off, unplugged, and buried in a lead casket at the bottom of the Atlantic. Oh noes!!
