Also spotted a Buzzard, and heard a Cuckoo at another location - both within walking distance of the bridge in the centre of Athlone. Exxxxxxcellent.

Where did you see the pere
Some great pics I have a pair of them across the road from me but rarely see them

Peregrines were in Wicklow! My first time to see them in the wild, as part of college work! They really are spectacular! What type of site is across the road from you?

I live in tallaght in Belgard and the roadstone is across my house I hunt rabbits there with my Harris hawk and I do see them soaring and attacking pigeons there's one pair of them
I do falconry and seen them hunt they are amazing birds and really docile have a strong bond with their falconer
And the speed of them when they hunt is unreal a lot of falconers lose them in Ireland I know a lad who lost his peregrine in England and was found 2 weeks later in Kerry

Whyu the warbler was giving an alarm call. You must have been very close to its nest. They are ground nesters.

    Young Bullfinch?

Spotted in the front garden this afternoon feeding itself. Thought at the time it was a Chaffinch, but looking back at it on the PC it looks nothing like others I've seen.

    Had a crisis earlier.

Heard repeated chirping through the vents of the house. Went out to find what looked like yellowhammer fledglings huddled at the corner of the house. Damp and cold looking. They fled a few feet then came over beside me.

I checked the rest of the house and the situation was the same at all sheltered parts of the house. Sparrow and yellowhammer fledglings all looking very unhappy but I was worried about the hammers who looked very weak.

I took the feeders in 2 days ago due to a return of the finch sickness and 2 young rats that I can't trap.

Turns out it was a bad move given the turn in the weather and timing.

I saw 6 yh adults at the feeders yesterday. I now think that they were desperately looking for scraps on the ground as the weather turned.

Called bwi and they said don't put the feeders out if the finches are getting sick.

I have ignored their advice however and here's the result. Not sure if it was the right thing to do but given the impact that weather seems to be having I think on balance it was right.

    saved.jpg

Adults are feeding the babies around the garden. Hopefully this weather eases.

(edit) Tree Sparrow is also back so all good.
