In Clare -near Cliffs of Moher

Spotted these two ‘species’ today – think I recognise the first one as a meadow pipet ?

But the second one has me stumped( not a tough task when it comes to bird id)

I think this is my fav bird photo to date( of my own that is)

Was out for a long walk today( in Clare for a few days) -- always of course the camera with me

Spotted this guy landing in the grass – and it took me ten minutes of tracking and 23 ‘clicks’ to get one single one in focus/clear pic that made it worth the patience.

    41604455354_b992e0ec0e_b.jpgMeadow Pipit -in a Meadow

As usual you can zoom in on my pics by clicking on the image and going to the flickr site

It's definitely a Pipit. But is it a Meadow Pipit or Rock Pipit?

The photo was taken in Spanish Point. Field next to the sea.
There are 'sea' rocks nearby and I took this pic a few minutes earlier

I'll stick my neck out here and say that's a Rock Pipit (I've never seen a Rock Pipit before!). It appears to have a greyer plumage colour than a Meadow Pipit, its legs are dark and it also has a dark bill too. The habitat is spot on. I could be completely wrong though!! :o

it's a meadow pipit alright. One of the main charectistics is the long hind claw which you can see here in this photo

Yes, it's a lovely place to visit, but you need to seek permission from Butterfly Conservation Ireland prior to visiting. It's only a small part of a much larger bog/wetlands habitat in Lullymore (just outside the town of Rathangan), Co.Kildare. As well as butterflies and dragonflies, I've seen Pine Marten, Red Squirrels, Hares, Foxes and many species of birds there too. There's a wealth of wildlife and flora to be seen. The website for Butterfly Conservation Ireland is:

A swallow took a wrong turn into my utility room.
Was a unique opportunity to hold this majestic bird before release.
Beautiful colour and as soft as silk .

There is little or no sexual dimorphism in Swallows, so hard to tell.

A Sericomyia silentis (hoverfly) was foraging on a buttercup oblivious to what lay in wait beneath. The Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) can change colour camouflaging itself on its host flower.
