Agreed. And many thanks to all who contribute.

I'm thinking there is some seriously expensive equipment around to produce such fabulous photos.

:D gorgeous! where in UCD are they? heard stories of foxes and the like in the grounds there, so was going to take a trip there sometime to see what I could find.

They are on the main lake in front of the library. There are a lot of foxes on campus, early morning is your best bet apparently around the residences by Fosters Avenue though I have seen them cutting through the car parks.

Just back from Ballynafagh. Plenty of Willow Warblers, Sedge Warblers and Chiffchaff. Also saw some Bullfinches, Reed Bunting and a fleeting glance of our famous resident up there :D

I think he may have been hand reared. he was around the house for a few days, still hear him calling most days. (along with others. )

A lot of game clubs who rear and release birds will tag them with different coloured wing tags or leg tags every year. This will let them know when a bird was released and also how far they are wandering from the rearing areas.

I use a Fujifilm Finepix S2500HD. It's not a dslr, just a bridge camera. It has a 'super macro' mode which is good for really close-up shots, but you can't zoom in that mode, so you have to get quite close to the subject with the camera. It has 18x optical zoom, which is a nice feature too. I picked mine up for under €200, good value.

Very regular visitor to the garden over the past few days. Absolutely love the Dandelions. Looks like they might be building.

    Rainbowsend,
that is a super shot of the grebe. What part of Lough Ree is that ?
My other half’s sister leaves in that area, so I could kill two birds with one stone (figuratively!!!!) if it was close.
    I've never seen one before

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭whyulittle

Not to speak for Rainbowsend, but they mentioned in the Photography forum it was taken on Vartry Reservoir in Wicklow.

My shot was taken at Portlick Bay on Lough Ree. Accessed from Glasson village.
