Snap, same thing happened to us last night - very dazed and confused cockchafer trying to get into the house! He was still on the doorstep when we headed off to bed but gone this morning so I assume he was eaten by somebody in the night. Large fella he was too.

Just spent an hour looking back through the previous 30 pages.

Have to say, some absolutely stunning captures on this thread, and ive learned loads from some of the posters regarding the different species and habits of the animals in the pics.

Went for a stroll in the Park last week and brought the camera.

Friendly little fella let me get real close before leggin it...

@V Bull, whats is the second bird in them pics above?

    Second bird is female linnet.

Last bird from the habitat, shape and general colour is either a reed warbler or a sedge warbler. If head was more in focus the sedge supercillium would easily distinguish the two.

Thanks trebor28, I agree with Traonach, female linnet and some kind of warbler, sorry for fuzzyness as it was a very long shot, I reckon about 200m + away, plenty of zoom & cropping to bring it up. Taken today, mid-morning in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow.

You know, we take a lot of birds for granted. While sitting in the garden yesterday evening, I noticed a Dunnock hopping about with the Sparrows at the bottom of a tree, he made his way up through the branches to the top a began singing. I had never before heard them sing and was blown away by his little song, just beautiful. Here’s a snap of him...

    Great thread folks.

Took this in Fota park over the weekend. Maybe one of you guys can put a name on it for me. Some stunning birds there especially the White Tailed Eagles.

No, fairly sure it's female Variable Damselfly
Focussed on shadow by mistake - St. Marks?
    Seems likely
    Large white?
No, Large White has no or 2 spots on each wing. It's either a male small white or female Orange-tip. Not experienced enough to be sure. I suspect it's Small White because I expect to see the pattern on back of hindwing showing through if Orange-tip.
    Speckled wood?
    Yes :)

Any idea what the host plant is?

I think it may be The Lackey. They overwinter as an egg batch and the larvae are gregarious.

Not sure what the plant was Mothman , quite possibly Blackthorn or Hawthorn , nestled between some Gorse bushes , very active little fellows , that's what caught my eye.
