Warbler? Yes that's a Willow Warbler. The call is usually the best id method as it is quite distinctive. The other id tip to distinguish it from a Chiffchaff is the leg colouring. Normally the WW has more fleshy leg colour as in this pic whereas the cchaff normally has dark legs.

Jay? That is a Jay alright. The white rump as it fly's away is normally a good indicator. It also often gives a screeching call as it flies from one are to another. Nice Bird

First bird from the length of the primary projection, it's a chiffchaff.
Second bird is Coal tit and it's chick.
    Third bird meadow pipit.
    It is a redshank.
A swift beautifully caught in flight.
    It is a buzzard.

The growth on the tree is a lumpy thing:D

I think I saw something like this on a telly a few years ago. It might be caused by a certain species of wasp, but I'm only guessing.

    whyulittle,
as a matter of interest, how far away are you from the Buzzard and Kestrel in the pics above?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭whyulittle

I'd say less than 100 yards for the Kestrel, more for the Buzzard - both taken at 400mm.

Buzzard had started to pull away in the shot below, but you get the general idea.
