My eighth round pick - D-LO BROWN!

One of the few men to ever hold the European and Intercontinental Titles simultaneously, D-LO Brown is a great addition to the mid card of my roster in my opinion. Hard hitting and also agile as hell for a guy of his size, he can be used in plenty of ways and is a welcome addition to my card. He was also Irish Whip Wrestling heavyweight champion at one stage so he's practically a local boy :D

My next pick is sure to be a future star of the WWE. He was already a star in ROH and looks set to go on to bigger things! Hell they even unbanned the Shooting Star Press so he could use it as his finisher.

He is: Evan Bourne (Matt Sydal)

Not all rosters have to be 100% serious, therefore my 8th pick is The Bizarre One.....Virgil Riley Runnels, better known as *deep breath*

    Goldust

He has been around the blocks a few times, and has had some of the wost gimmicks in wrestling history, but his wit and charisma made Goldust a highly entertaining character, as both heel and face, in the 90s and early 00s.

    Here we go again...

For my eight pick, I draft one of the most well rounded technical wrestlers around today, combining both an extreme style with well rounded matt techniques,

    53.jpg
    The Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels

In the WWF he was one half of the conquistadors and wrestled for the light heavyweight championship, apparently

In TNA however he is an essential part of the X-Division and the company and has wrestled in their only 5 star match. He is a 6 time NWA tag champion, a 3 time X division champion and was instrumental in the X Cup win of 2006. He is also a 2 time ROH champion and in what some critics have argued is th highlight of his career, had fought in IWW for some title. He has also won gold in the more technichally demanding rings of Japan

He also like totally has the BEST MOONSAULT EVER

I decided I need a manager for the person who is going to be my next pick (i'm pretty sure he'll still be there )

But having done some research i'm thinking maybe I want this guy as one of my wrestlers. I haven't decided yet but just to keep things going here he is

    Classy Freddie Blassie

    Val Venis
    venis2.jpg
    venisgz6.jpg

    Helllloooo Ladies!

Val Venis is fuppin entertaining. The porn-star gimmick was just pure class. Some of his more memorable moments include Shaving Ryan's Privates and Sister Act, which were adult movies starring himself and Ken Shamrock's sister.

You need these kinda lighthearted, bizzare, out-of-this-world gimmicks in wrestling.

A character like Venis adds an extra element to wrestling shows. And besides which, Val Venis is a very capable wrestler. Although he his role now is very much muted, for part of his career he was a regular on the Intercontinental Championship scene, winning the title twice. In my opinion, the Intercontinental Championship was never promoted as well as when he was involved in a four way feud over the title along with Hardcore Holly, Chris Jericho, and Benoit. He also defeated the British Bulldog and D'Lo Brown to become the European Champion. He was well thought of enough to feud with the likes of the Rock, Steve Austin, and Mankind.

Thanks to Bubs for reminding me about she's still here!

Before there was such a thing as Divas... we had... the First Lady of Wrestling,

    Miss Elizabeth!

    wwf5.jpg

She was truly an icon of late 80's television, and an inseperable part of Randy Savage's act. A charismatic, beautiful lady, she accompanied the Macho Man throughout his outstanding World title reigns in 1988 and 1992.
When Macho went heel, he ended up retiring following a loss to the ultimate warrior at WM7. Elizabeth showed up, and reunited with Savage following the loss. It was an emotional moment that moved fans in the arena to tears, as did their wedding at Summerslam of that year.
Truly a valuable addition to any roster, she's my obvious choice to add colour and glamour to my babyface team of Martel and Santana.

One of her most memorable moments

    Stevie Richards

    I'll show you, you'll see...

Stevie Richards is a criminally underrated performer. He rarely gets a chance to showcase his skills, but when he does he rarely disappoints. Below are two decent matches featuring Tajiri (those chops and kicks are killer) and Benoit.

Below mightn't be Stevie's greatest wrestling moment, but it does show a different, eh, side to his character: Stevie Richards (as Chyna) versus Chris Jericho

Big Stevie Cool, Steven Richards, Stevie Night Heat, whatever he's calling himself these days, this guy has been through the wars. He competed in the first ever ECW match and headlined the first Barely Legal PPV. He had a brief stint in WCW, and went on to become one of the most charismatic and memorable jobbers in the WWF/E. Stevie has been the leader of two factions, has held the Hardcore title 22 times (most of those were in the same night!), and was the self-appointed GM of HEAT.

    In a rush:

My Pick, and Second "Diva": Ariel (Aka, Salinas, Shelly Martinez)

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,535 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

"Doc was (one of) the toughest wrestlers I ever encountered and with his credentials as being a legit 4 time NCAA wrestling All American it is hard to argue that Steve Williams, who had a bonafide mean streak to go along with his amateur skills, was, at one time, in a club with not that many members." - Jim Ross

    08.jpg

For my penultimate pick I'm going with a man who was so tough he even got the better of cancer. A huge but agile - as well as technically gifted individual - my choice is..."Dr Death" Steve Williams!

I first came across Dr Death Steve Williams through his short run in WWE in the late nineties but having read his book and seen some of his old stuff I think he is a top pick at this late stage of the game.

Williams in his prime had everything. The right look, intensity, technical prowess and a kick-ass finisher in The Oklahoma Stampede! It's a shame his talents weren't utilised better in the past. Here is a cool video of his top ten moves taken from Japan where he was immensely popular...

Dr Death was very technically gifted for a man of his size as I touched on above and this is evident in this match from UWF where he destroys some jobber. Check out the snap suplex into a pin at the 2:37 mark...

The Doc along with Ted Dibiase also enjoyed a great tag team feud with The Rock 'N' Roll Express in Mid-South, and since I have the R 'N' R Express on my roster I like the option of having three of those four guys cross paths once more. Check out this video from Mid-South of that tag team feud below with commentary by Jim Ross. This really is way ahead of its time and I would say even better than the tag team wrestling we are given today...

There's a lot I feel I can do with Dr Death on my roster. I could pair him with another tough wrestler like Bad News, I could put him with a big guy like Kane, I could have him engage in what would no doubt be a technical mat classic with Bret Hart or I could involve him in tag action with his old enemies Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson.

As J.R. would say, 'Nothing can stop that Oklahoma Stampede!'

For my 9th pick I'm going for the tag team of Elijah Burk and Marcus Cor Von

    4937172

Elijah Burke is one of the most impressive young talents to come through the WWE in a while. He has an innovative offense utilising his knees in a way I have never seen before, has already led his own faction in a Wrestlemania match and has shown he is more than comfortable on the mic. He has proven his chops in the development territories as well as he is a former OVW Champion

    mbrown2.jpg
The Alpha Male Monty Brown was a main eventer in TNA and although he never won the title, he headlined many of their PPVs. He was thrust into the main event almost instantly in TNA, showing his raw talent. He has one of the most devestating finishers in the Pounce, has alot of experience on the mic from his time in TNA and is very athletic in the ring. Really underutilized by the WWE. He also played in a Superbowl

Really funny promo, particularly the bits about "Fat Joe"

Monty wrestling in TNA's Wrestlemania Main event, The King of the Mountain match

    Stan "The Lariat" Hansen

As I said in the other thread, this guy really should have been picked already. He was a fantastic wrestler, although the fact that he spent his prime years in Japan probably makes him less familiar to American fans

Hansen is infamous for his stiffness, which he says is because he is extremely short-sighted without glasses. So to make up for any phony looking moves that he might miss, he put a lot of effort into them all. He didn't injure many people though, although he did break Bruno Sammartino's neck, but that wasn't a result of him being stiff. Their rematch did huge money for the WWF

Hansen first went to Japan in the early '80s and he stayed there, working for All Japan, right through the '90s. He never had a problem with losing, with one famous incident being when All Japan and the WWF did a joint show with a planned Terry Gordy vs Hulk Hogan match. Gordy refused to lose though, as he was All Japan champion. Hansen stepped right in to replace Gordy

Hansen has always been a really nice guy outside of the ring, which is in huge contrast to him inside the ring. He was also great at promos, which some fans don't know as they may have only ever seen his work from Japan

    Some notable accomplishments:

Voted by Wrestling Observer readers as the best brawler in 1985 and 1990, and the tag team of the year in 1982 with Ole Anderson
Inaugural member of the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame
    All Japan champion
All Japan tag champion with five different partners
    NWA International Heavyweight champion
    Two times Champion's Carnival winner
Four times World's Strongest Tag League winner
    AWA Heavyweight champion
Two Wrestling Observer 5 star matches
PWI Match of the Year in 1976 vs Bruno Sammartino
Number 7 in PWI's list of greatest tag teams, with Bruiser Brody

There's a lot of great Stan Hansen videos on Youtube so I'd like to put up a few of my favourites

Classic promo from the WWF, with Freddie Blassie and Vince McMahon. Hansen was feuding with Bob Backlund at the time:

Hansen bodyslams Andre the Giant six before Hogan was the "first" one to do it. Stan's is better too :):

Bob Holly and Al Snow weren't the first guys to wrestle in a river. Stan and Terry Funk (also on my roster) did it years before, in a bit of a wild outdoor brawl:

And to showcase how stiff he sometimes worked, here's the match where he knocked Vader's eye out of its socket:

For my 9th pick I’ve just got this to say
    ....PIMPIN AINT EASY....

I’m going for the driver of the Ho Train…… The Godfather

A hugely popular wrestler, will be an ideal face in my midcard part of my roster. He’s a former IC champ and a tag team champ.

Ah a ho winning the hardcore title, classic

And if any of my roster gets out of hand I can always call upon the dark magic of Papa Shango to cast a spell

I'm picking my second tag team.... My Second Tag Team is noted for being the first black Tag Team Champions.....I give you the Soul Patrol. Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas.

Highly popular and talented wrestlers these guys were the first black tag team champions. They won the Tag Championship in 1983 from the Wild Samoans.

    Rd1: Hulk Hogan
    Rd2: John Cena
    Rd3: Yokozuna
    Rd4: Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka,
    Rd5: Tazz & Raven
Rd6: Don Muraco & Cowboy Bob Orton
    Rd7: Mr Fuji
    Rd8: Ron Simmons

My 9th pick was a champion in the AWA, WWF, WCW, In Japan and was involved in one of the more controversial moments in pro wrestling history, yet it isnt someone most people would think of immediatley

    Rd9: Alundra Blayze/Madusa
    blaze-alundra.jpgmadusa.jpg

Using such signature moves such as the Bridging German suplex, a Piledriver and a standing moonsault she became a 3-Time WWF womens champion as Alundra Blayze. However she shocked everyone by turning up on WCW Nitro, WWF womens championship in-toe. She denounced the Blayze gimmick becoming Madusa and threw the WWF Women's Title Belt in a trash can. She is also a former (first female) WCW Cruiserweight champion having defeated Evan Karagias at Starcade 99. Not only was she a top female wrestler but she was also a Manager/Valet for a number of top male stars including Steve Austin, Macho Man Randy Savage and Curt Henning.

she is actually also a World Freestyle and Racing Monster truck driving champion.

I wanted to pick a monster for my 9th pick. Someone who would scare the kids or always be a plausible choice for destroying my champion. I considered the likes of Big John Studd and One Man Gang. I even considered the Boogeyman. But after some research I came up with the Man Mountain from Stone Mountain

    Jerry Crusher Blackwell

    patera-ken-and-blackwell-jerry01.jpg

    blackwell-jerry-and-hogan-hulk01.jpg

A behemoth of a man but still agile enough to hit a standing dropkick. Involved in some notable fueds with the likes of The Road Warriors, Kerry von Erich, Hulk Hogan and Bruiser Brody.

As a member of the the hated tag team, The Sheiks, with Ken Patera, he is a former AWA tag team champion.

One of the top "big men" of all time his style is seen as a precursor for the likes of King Kong Bundy, Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow and Vader.

The video below shows exactly what I want from him on my roster

Ric Flair, The Fabulous Freebirds, Dusty Rhodes, Demolition, Superstar Billy Graham, Jesse Ventura, Jerry Lynn, Juventud Guerrera and introducing…..

    Christy Hemme

    CHEMME.jpg
    "My stillness will move me…”

She started out as the first ever WWE Diva Search winner in 2004, who would have thought she would come so far to prove that she is more than just a pretty face. Known for her energetic personality and charisma, Christy was trained by the legendary Ricky Steamboat and Fit Finlay. Christy has competed in WWE, UWF, 1PW, North East Wrestling and more recently in TNA. I think her attitude and charisma will be a great addition to my roster.

UWF: April Hunter vs. Christy Hemme
Special guest referee: Amy Dumas (aka Lita)

It was actually a benefit this time coming near the end of the draft as I was trying to come up with someone that would naturally fit into a match with Davey Boy Smith.

After alot of thought, I think I've come up with a really good guy. He's one of the top independent workers in the world right now.

Introducing the current ROH champion: Nigel McGuinness

    img_1664.jpg

He was in my favorite match of last year with Bryan Danielson and here's a few stats that show what a talent he is:
    Wrestling Observer Awards 2007
    - Ranked 5th Most Outstanding Wrestler for 2007

    - Ranked 2nd Best Technical Wrestler for 2007

    - Number of matches he's been in rates 4 stars and above= 6

Having last picked Goldust, I figured I would need to pick someone to complement him. However, to just pigeon hole this guy as purely a comedy wrestler is to do him a massive injustice.

He is a great technician also, and is well skilled in both American and European styles, plus he is not out of place in an all out brawl as he proved in his feud with Homicide in ROH. He has charisma to burn, and once he gets the call up to the main roster, and if used properly, he could be huge. His is a 2nd City Saint, the Big Colt Daddy - Colt Cabana
Cabana has also worked a number of preliminary matches in WWE on its HEAT and Velocity shows. On some occasions, he competed under the name Chris Guy, the real name of his trainer Ace Steel. Steel had wrestled in a squash match for WWE in 2004 under Cabana's real name Scott Colton. Cabana's latest WWE appearance was on Heat, losing to 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan.
