Obviously MNG didn't get my last cheque since I'm only making my 5th round pick now, but it doesn't matter cos this pick is simply priceless...

So my fifth choice is the team of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase (Jr.)

Apologies for not picking a better video.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 937 ✭✭✭michael.etc...

My fifth Pick, a man who if his career was able to have reached it's full potential, would surely be remembered not just as a a great, but one of the best... My 5th Pick.

    MR WONDERFUL... Paul Orndorff

    4903356

yes, Orndorff, the guy who helped hulk hogan to the hottest feud of 1986, at one point drawing an estimated 70,000 plus fans (in Toronto I think). But also the guy who was a headliner on the very first Wrestlemania, a and who's feud with Hogan in general lead to huge, record-breaking profit levels for Vinnie Mac.
Orndorff was adept at playing both the Heel and Face. Intresesting and athletic enough as a good guy, and aggressive and manipulative as a baddie. Orndorff could handle a mic with dignity intact, and remains on of the most noteworthy characters from the late 80's, and early 90's.

    Plus, he kicked Vader's ass!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Spongey1975

My 5th round pick is a man who was one of the top wrestlers in the 70's. He is Pedro Morales

Pedro was a hugely popular face in wrestling in the 70's (just as popular as Bruno Sammartino). He held the World Heavyweight title for 3 years. He's a true main event star who will be a valuable addition to my roster

    A legit fighter.

A ball of intensity in the ring or cage.
A skilled technician on the mat.
With lightening fast strike speed or devastating submission holds I can just imagine some of the matches he could have, and in some cases had, with the rest of my roster.

For my next pick, I shall choose...

My second (and final :( ) tag team...

Earthquake and Typhoon, The Natural Disasters.

    05.jpg

Two huge men who could do quite a bit for their size. They were monsterous mountains of men who both had decent singles runs (however silly 'Tugboat' may have been) and had a good tag run together, too.

I believe that these guys, if they were in the same shape in 2008, could, and likely would, be unstoppable monsters.

And after all.. i do have taker on my roster :pac:

I've gone for large wrestlers so far, so it's time to mix things up a little. My pick is:

    Jushin "Thunder" Liger

This is a guy who was a true innovator in wrestling. When he came to America in the early '90s he brought a style of wrestling that had ever been seen before by the WCW fans. He is recognised as one of the very top cruiserweight/junior heavyweight wrestlers in the world

One of the great things about him is that he was constantly evolving and learning new things. He's in his forties now so he can't do as much high-flying stuff as he used to, but he's made up for that in other areas, improving his ground wrestling and making the younger guys look better

Both TNA and ROH brought him in for matches in which he was promoted as a legend and an idol for their younger wrestlers

    Some notable accomplishments:

Voted by Wrestling Observer readers as the best flying wrestler five years in a row, the best technical wrestler four years in a row, most outstanding wrestler three years in a row, as well as a match of the year and joint rookie of the year winner
    WCW Lightheavyweight champion
Numerous title reigns in New Japan, holding every title available to junior heavyweights and winning singles and tag tournaments
    NOAH Junior Heavyweight champion
    Dragon Gate champion
    Super J Cup winner

I reckon know is the time to pick my woman wrestler. Not being overly familiar with the work of the Fabulous Moolah, my number one pick would be Trish Stratus. But seeing as she has already been picked it would be one of women who brought the best out in Trish.

They had one of the best womens matches to ever take place with in the confines of the WWE and in the opinion of many they stole the show and wrestlemania 22.

    Mickey James

She is also amazingly hot and as we all know, sex sells

Two former Cruiserweight Champions who went on to have a tag team which was cut short due the the release of one of its members. They were in the middle of an excellent feud (at least match wise) with London and Kendrick. I give you The (new) Pitbulls. A team, who if used properly, could have been HUGE.

Okay, so my sixth pick then...

Afa and Sika.... THE WILD SAMOANS

    2samoa.jpg

There are a whole bunch of reasons for this pick. But the main thought being, that i already have a tag team of good looking, young babyfaces (one of whom also makes a great heel i might add), so i need a squad to balance that. And to earn sympathy for, and create a heated blood feud with them, who better than these guys?
Afa and Sika are 3time WWE tag team champions, and hall of famers, famous for their crazy skits with manager Captain Lou Albano. Their style was often wild, and always unpredictable, and led them through numerous feuds with some of the biggest stars in federation history.

This isn't great quality, but it is historic.

    "We're All-American Boys!"

    01.jpg

I was thinking about what heel tag team I would choose to square off against my babyface tag team the Rock N' Roll Express, and I thought what better pick to make than the duo who hate rock n' roll more than anyone...The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers!

I instantly liked The Rougeau Brothers gimmick when I first caught them on WWE Classics. With their little miniature American flags and that hilarious entrance theme, they made for great entertainment. They were also fine wrestlers too and members of Quebec's most famous wrestling family.

Raymond Rougeau retired from in-ring action in 1990 after years of back problems. I suspect had this not been the case the Rougeau Brothers would have definitely held tag team gold since Jacques went on to win tag team gold on three occasions with Carl Ouellet as part of The Quebecers.

Jacques enjoyed a degree of singles success too as The Mountie, who always got his man. Plus he got to beat Hulk Hogan at a house show. Seems a really classy guy too if you've seen his shoot video.

    22.jpg

To my knowledge the R 'N' R Express and the Rougeau Brothers never wrestled each other so I think it would make for a great feud. With their delightfully cheesy gimmick, whenever their music hit it was always enjoyable.

    My next pick is:

    Test and Albert

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

    Bryan Danielson

I need someone to work with Liger who isn't twice the size of him, so I've gone for the American Dragon Bryan Danielson

Danielson was signed by WWE to a developmental deal before he had even been training for two years. I became a big fan of his when he wrestled a number of matches on Velocity in 2003, before I'd ever seen him in ROH or anywhere else

Danielson is another guy, like Liger, who has contantly evolved and adapted his work. He's able to work incredibly well as both a heel and a face. He's able to wrestle numerous styles of wrestling (NOAH have been pushing him in Japan where he's had to use the style that their fans are used to, he's currently working for AAA in Mexico with a lucha style, he's spent months in England learning the old British style, he's wrestled the WWE style on their shows, and he's worked many different sorts of matches for ROH)

Danielson would have been my first pick but I was curious to see how long he'd remain available!

    Some notable accomplishments:

Voted by Wrestling Observer readers as the best technical wrestler for the last three years, the most outstanding wrestler for the last two years and he was in the match of the year for last year
    ROH World champion
    ROH Pure champion
    FIP champion
    PWG champion
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team champion

I think this video is amazing

My next pick for the Draft Spectacular is...

One of the best women (or "Divas") to step foot in a ring in recent times in my opinion. Confident on the mic and talented in the ring. She has done some great work as a heel in her WWE run so far. Has been a women's champion to back up her ring efforts and has been an invaluable asset to the success of MNM (not that i'm saying they would have failed without her, definitely not the case, I'm just saying she played the managerial role great when with them and was useful to them as a package).

I think that for my first woman, i could have done a lot worse :)

Just to keep things going, Ill make my pick now.

Bob Holly & The 123 Kid (Sean Waltman)

Hardly a great tag-team, I'll admit that, but waltman is a more than welcome addition to my cruiserweight division (and we all remember that match with Bret) and Holly is a solid mid-carder who can have a great match given the right opponent. Very useful guys on any roster.

Jesse “The Body” Ventura was a colourful and influential Superstar. Groundbreaking television commentator. Navy SEAL and Vietnam veteran. Governor of Minnesota. Jesse Ventura has been all these things during his amazing career. His election in 1998 was the political news story of the year, and from 1999 to 2002, he was one of the most-talked-about public figures in America. Prior to that, of course, “The Body” made his name punishing opponents on the mat and trash-talking on the mic which would certainly add to my roster.

    What does everybody want?

    Al Snow and Steve Blackman
    (A.K.A. Head Cheese)

    01.jpg

There is something so definitively 'Attitude Era' about this team. Their track record is pretty impressive, with wins over the Hardyz, Edge and Christian, the Dudley Boys, and Hardcore and Crash Holly. However, it is their skits that they are most remembered for. Steve Blackman's stand-up gig at the old folks home was sheer gold.

    13.jpg
The Lethal Weapon Steve Blackman carries with him an air of legitimate danger. As one of the joint greatest Hardcore Champs of all time (with Crash), Blackman gave the title the credibility it had been so sorely lacking. He also gave us one of the greatest OMFG! moments of the era when he delivered a scissors kick off the titontron on to Shane McMahon.

Al Snow is everything you could ever want from a mid-carder. He has a great ability to connect with the fans, has the legitimacy to meanningfully put over other talent, and has shed loads of experience. Plus, he comes armed with the second greatest prop in wrestling history (after Roberts' Damien), the mannequin Head. His abilities and experience were well enough respected by the WWE that he became the Head Trainer in their reality TV show Tough Enough. Snow was also a great champion, and probably did more to raise the European Title's profile in the eyes of the fans than anyone else. His gimmick of coming to the ring representing a different European country each week was priceless, especially when he dressed as Dracula to represent Romania.

The philosophy I’m going with is 2 fold I guess. Top, drawing guys like Vader and Lawler (who I’d have as a good guy) who worked a heavy hitting, brawling style and then phenomenal Junior Heavy weights who bring something equally good but altogether different to the table with Tiger Mask and the Dynamite Kid.

So with that said, to add to the first group is a guy who simply had a phenomenal career albeit with a tremendously sad ending to it, drawing basically everywhere he went with a unique style still copied today.

His links to WWF are tenuous enough having only had a short run there but to me, he probably should have been picked up in the first 2 rounds given his impact on wrestling.

Since the two picks I wanted this round are gone (T&A and HeadCheese). I've thought outside the box again. My next pick is eligible to be picked as he appeared on wwf jakked in 2001 facing Essa Rios.

My pick is the Samoan Submission Machine and former TNA heavyweight champion... Samoa Joe!

    His match against essa rios

Looking for a face tag team to feud with the new age outlaws so i've decided to opt for former tag team champions, Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty

A very entertaining duo (along with Grand Master Sexay but i cant have the 3 of them) who were very popular during their time with the wwe

    Who can remember the dancing

    and the W-O-R-M

Rikishi was an accomplished singles wrestler fighting for the title on a number of occasionsand also winning the Intercontinental championship. As with all his Samoan family he uses his strength to great effect and has great agility for his size.

Scotty has also been an accomplished cruiserweight winning the light heavyweight championship.

The 9th wonder of the world Chyna

    chyna01.jpg

A wrestler so popular she sold one of the top 10 selling issues of Playboy looking like that.

Chyna's impact on the wrestling world cannot be understated. She was the first woman to ever realistically mix it up with the boys and was seen as too big to compete for the womens title. She had a unique look that has never been replicated since she left and was a three time Intercontinental Champion, an achievement that most men in the business would be proud of.She had one of the most over finishers in the company with the Low Blow . She was aloud to leave and vacate her only womens championship out of a sign of respect. She was also a great manager and played a huge part in getting Triple H over and was an integral member of D-X. The impact that she had on professional wrestling is unmatched by any woman (Moolah is the only one who comes close) and frankly I'm amazed she is still around

Vs. Jeff Jarret at No Mercy. Listen to the pop at the end

Chyna vs. Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero
