I still havent done my IST, was ment to do it back in March but when I sent in the paper work saying I am dislexic they moved the date to the summer :( Anyone else in the same boat?

Just like everyone else I hope I pass it, First time doing it so don't really know what to expect apart from what I've read up about.

Hi Jayman - I'm from Belfast, I also got my results - got 58 - happy enough with that.

    Hey,
I got 54, I received my results after I had been through the 2nd stage of the process. Is this a good enough score to get through. I am female RC.

    Cheers

As long as you pass the IST, you are through to the AC.. it's the AC that really counts so ya gotta ace that.. I only got 53 in my IST..

This is my 2nd time going through this, I got as far as the medical the last time. My BMI was to high:mad: so I am working on getting healthier!

Fingers crossed I am sick of working in a job i dont like :(

im pretty tall and slightly build but pushes my bmi to around 27 which makes me "overweight" but been training since before xmas and if i pass through the AC il be stepping it up a notch to knock that number right down

beep test is also good practise

Thanks everyone for the answers, I never new about this forum the last time i was applying. so fingers crossed. My BMI was 29 which is quite high I need to loose about 2st +.

Hi question about this - i also would have a high BMI probably higher than 29 but would be of heavy build and wouldnt appear to be overweight. Im athletic and can run 5 miles no problem and do sport 3/4 times a week. I understood if the BMI was high they would sent you to G/Ville to do a fitness test before they would pass you on the medical. Was this nott he case for you that you where turned down soley on BMI and could you not appeal? Now im paniking!

Try this for knockin the extra weight off, it's workin for me, can see a noticable difference and I've only just got onto week 2 of the program.. also, by time you graduate GV you need to be able to run 5k so it's good to get the practice in now just in case :Dhttp://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Also, to lose weight and tone up, I discovered that you should actually eat 6 times a day! Keeps the metabolism going and makes it faster to an extent so you burn more fat quicker. Get loads of protein in ye and only 1-2 small helpings of carbs per day (preferably at breakfast and lunch, NOT dinner) and obv cut down on the fat AND sugar.. sugar does a lot of damage that most people don't even acknowledge!

Just as some helpful info for anyone who's worryin about weight etc for medical :) best to start now! Doing the above things, you'll be suprised how much you lose in a month!

    Cheers for that :D

I am getting confused by it all a bit.

Seen in another thread people are getting results from the AC test. I thought these were not out till september, hope i have not missed the boat.:(

if your bmi is over 30 they do a body fat content test, not sure of the limits but if you are well built with a good bit of muscle you will have a lower body fat content which would put you in the clear.

You absolutely should not be knocking the fat down. Training you will need a minimum of 70-90 grams plus per day. Switch it from saturated and trans fats, to the fats you find in fish/nuts/lean meat. To do otherwise is folly as it will affect your nervous system, muscle growth.

Likewise sugars aren't necessarily "bad" for you. Just avoid adding granulated sugar to anything, and avoid sweets and whatnot. You should be getting your carbs from fruits, veg and rice etc. I think the current rec is half your plate should be those, and approx half your protein/fat.

Overall you should be consuming plenty of carbs, and approximately 1g of protein for each pound of bodyweight.

Finally the one most people **** up, drink lots of water. 2-3 litres per day. Hydration builds muscle mass, burns fat, and prevents cramping.
