got my ist results today. got a score of 52 failed by 1 mark. gutted!!:(

Hi guys, (Johnny, I'm quoting you here but this is for everyone really.) I also failed by one mark and got 52. This morning I got a letter from deloitte saying thay have re-evaluated the scores and all canditates with a score of 52 are passing to the AC!!

Over the moon doesnt begin to describe...so for all who got 52, don't loose hope, and I'll see you at the AC :D

You really would love to know what deloitte are up to sometimes! You would imagine by now they'd be able to get their numbers down to a t for each bit of the process...But congrats christov, must've felt even better getting that letter after the first knock down, that's the best kind of surprise :)

Anybody else out there got such a letter?

Just thinking the reason behind lowering the pass mark, does that mean that there where not enough people that passed in the first place, or is there more places available?

    Very strange

From what I hear, it's the former.

If that is true, and I do not mean this in a nasty or demeaning way, but at the end of the day if you passed in the first place, then the places should be distributed to the ones who passed on merit, and not because there was not enough people that passed.

In my own mind, if I was to do well in the A/C and then not get in, and a person that has been given a second chance would take my place, I would be very, very annoyed.

Also, this could open a massive can of worms for people that would have failed by one mark in previous years.

Again, I am not being nasty with this post!

That can of worms has been open for years. The bottom line is, if there aren't enough people from both sides of the community to fulfill 50/50 then what else can they do?

This forum isn't for the discussion of 50/50. Simply head over to Politics if you want to have that discussion, and you'll meet people for and against it.

I do see where you're coming from though. There were similar accusations of 'dumbing down' the score previously when they did the same thing a few years back, and there's plenty of discussion space awaiting... in Politics.

I agree with you in some ways and totally get where you're coming from, I failed by one mark last year and would have killed for them to drop the mark! But then again in my mind the IST is a bit irrelevent to the process as a first stage, in an ideal world the AC should be the first stage as it bears far more relevence to the job, its just unfortunate that to do so would be completely finacially and logistically unfeasable due to the sheer numbers of applicants, the IST is purely a cull of the numbers...some are lucky, some are not (and I think i had pure luck this year!)

And am I right in saying that your IST score only gets factored into the big picture if someone gets the same score in the AC, then they take it down to what you scored in the IST and allocate merit numbers accordingly?

Just to clarify psni, does that mean because they wouldn't be able to fulfill the 50:50 at the original pass mark of 53 for this campaign, they have lowered the pass mark for everyone? (i.e. regardless of community background?) So even if they were just short on candidates from an RC background, they will have to let more Non-RC's through to stage 2 now as well, making the competition even harder for the Non-RC candidates who were already through?

Its hardly luck, either you're capable of it or you're not.

Yes, it would be lowered for the entire campaign.

I agree with Pluginbaby actually on the luck thing.. I guessed the last ten questions on part B and the last 3 or so on part A and clearly luck must have been with me and I must have got most of those completely guessed questions right, otherwise I don't see how I could have passed. Although on the other hand, being able to time manage and, failing this, work under pressure and guess the questions you don't have time for as opposed to just leaving them out is a key part of being an officer I think and, as Cashflow says, you are either capable of doing this or you're not.. Although I do think that an element of luck is in it as well.

Wonder how many got through to the AC now.. any one know?

And yeah, the AC has just got harder for NRCs I think now.

Yeah that's correct... The AC obviously is the big decider on if you're cut out for the job... but the IST will still form the dividing line between the men and the boys so to speak.

I probably would have agreed with you pluginbaby that the IST seems irrelevent to the job, but someone recently put it to me from a policing perspective and I now think differently - The IST is designed to test how you deal with taking in a large amount of information, how you process it, and then come to a solution - all whilst working under pressure (the pressure in this case being the time). Obviously yes, it is also to cut down applicants, but think from that point of view more of a relevance can be seen! - Just an opinion! :)

Yeah I get that it does have relevence and see what it's testing but I just think that as a first stage it's not the best, you could be the type of person who does incrediby well working with numbers and info etc quickly but could be terrible when it comes down to dealing with people, problematic situations and the like. Obviously I'm not a police officer so I could be wrong but I would imagine the later is more vital to the role. Then again at the end of the day the AC is the main decider when it comes down to merit so it doesn't really matter either way, I'm just having me a wee rant... and shall stop now because no amount of moaning is ever going to change the process

I have emailed them twice requesting my IST mark and have not received a letter or a reply email. Seems people are getting different responses (or no response in my case!)

yea i emailed them directly, and after she first said no i told her i had heard about other people getting their result and she replied with:

We will not be releasing any of this information until June so I am not sure who has given you this information.

I got no response from them whatsoever, would be 10 days today since I emailed for them (though not 10 working days i guess), I don't think they're planning on giving them out early at all...

Has anyone else who passed the ist received a letter informing them of their scores in the two tests?Mine arrived today and I had not requested a breakdown. Can anyone remember the total number of questions in the two tests?...I think 48 in the first and not sure about the second test...maybe 30

I haven't received the breakdown but I would really like to! I've emailed but no response... people they have responded to though have said that Deloitte told them that breakdowns wouldn't be out until June and some said August...?

Part A was 48 and part B was 30 yeah

Very odd this whole thing with so many different versions seeming to come from the recruitment agency.Like I said,I didnt request a breakdown so we can assume that all passers will find this in the post soon.If this was always going to happen they could have avoided having to deal with numerous phonecalls and emails concerning the ist scores.Ahh well at least everyone will know theirs now, although the urgency to know ist scores baffles me as performance at the AC is the main deciding factor.I do appreciate that it may come into play somewhere along the line but sometimes not knowing is best..

How random they sent you out yours...I want mine purely out of curiosity, I'm a detail freak, details, numbers and breakdowns make me happy :p Although I don't know how happy they would make me if I found out I passed by the skin of my teeth, but well a pass is a pass at the end of the day I suppose!

Very strange this.I thought the forum would be full of chat about receiving the breakdown considering how many have passed the ist on here.
I am quite like you plug in that I have been cursed with overanalysis..My cross to bear is percentages and have not been able to stop myself from looking into how many pass various stages,no shows and calculating the odds IF I were to make it to the final merit table. This is torturous enough at times without putting pressure on oneself.
Im not trying to annoy those who havent received their breakdown by the way!
