Yeah, it crosses the old road, twice. The biggest bridging will be coming across to Coolcower, IWT.

A bridge over the existing road?

I have probably read it already, but, how many bridges in total?

Yep this is the 2nd place where the new road will cross the existing road near Ballymakeera

Over 20 bridges in total. Not sure if exact figure

You dont know how many entry/exit points there be on the bypass? From the map I can only make out four?

There will be a limited access grade separated junction at the western tie in with the N22, a grade separated junction east of Ballymakeera with the road to Clondrohid, a grade separated junction with the R582 Millstreet Road and a roundabout at Coolcower. There will be no junction with the R618 Coachford Road due to the terrain in the area

So there will be no entry point to the bypass at carrigaphooka so? Just a flyover?

That's correct. Just a road crossing bridge with access points

Was sure you could get on at carrigaphooka....For people a few miles west of the town they will have to come into town to get on the bypass up the millstreet road so

Which is a minimal inconvenience for a small number of people. Having access from both locations would be entirely superfluous.

4 junctions along the route is plenty, given that there are no settlements of note between Macroom and Ballyvourney. The old road will be sufficiently quiet to serve these destinations.

Having too many junctions would drive up the cost and lead to issues with safety if they are too close together.

Once the gorey to enniscorthy and new ross bypasses are finished will macroom bypass be the next in line as in major projects to be brought to construction?

Peter Walsh, Director of Capital Programme with TII confirmed today in the Transport Committee that the firm date for this remains Q1 2020, however there may be scope to accelerate this into late 2019 if additional funding comes available.

The project is ready to tender just waiting for the money commitment.

Drove through macroom and ballyvourney yesterday and saw a lot of archaeological work still being carried out so hopefully now once that's finished with it'll be put out to tender?

Given that the tender process will take most of a year it could be put to tender pending the finish of archaelogical work which is due to finish up in Q1 2018.

It's the lack of guaranteed construction funding before 2020 that's holding it up.

If it started in january 2020 when would it be opened then by? Would it take 2 years to complete?

Mid 2022 likely. Some challenging terrain along the route which makes it quite a difficult build

Especially from the mons bar back to western side of ballvourney where it joins up again with the n22 a few miles east of the county bounds. Should we expect it to be put out to tender in the next few months do you think?

I would expect to see a tender before the end of 2018, perhaps earlier if funding is provided for a 2019 start.

Does anyone know will there be a slip road or a roundabout to get on the bypass from the coolihane road next to bealick mill or will there just be a bridge there?

After getting the fencing contract for the route will wills bros be the favourites to get the contract for construction of the bypass?

They'd be hoping to, but it doesn't work that way. AFAIK they did not subcontract the fencing. They then would have garnered a good bit of detailed knowledge. Might give them the edge.
I think they are doing the Bandon flood relief works too.
