Dunno, but I suggest that no one stand in my way when the tickets are finally available :D!!!

'parently this week but I couldn't swear to that. Was buying tickets on Saturday to Angus & Julia Stone in Sugar Club and the guy at ticketmaster said he reckoned this week but he wasn't sure. Just keep an eye out I suppose.:(

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Where did you hear he's playing here?

Jaysus, I never hear about gigs until the last minute!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Spictreacy

Anyone know where he is playing. Hopefully somewhere decent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭Goolay

Apparently it's July 30th & 31st in a special Marquee tent in Phoenix Park. No idea when tix go on sale. In an effort to outwit scalpers it's apparently going to be a ticketless event. You bring the credit card you bought the tickets with and some id to get in.

The Big Top in Phoenix Park - 29th and 30th of July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Where abouts would the big top be in the park?

Just curious but where do people find out about these gigs? Lucky I saw it on the front page!

i heard it's the 30 and 31st of July...mmm guess we'll just have to wait and see. Am so excited about this, the thought of seeing tom waits live just makes my toes curl!! ahhh!! have a horrible feeling i'm goin to miss out on the tickets, must become a cyberstalker type person and check up on tickets sales every 10 minutes. there's rumours of huge ticket prices but hopefully it wont be too crazy. Had a romantic notion I'd go see him in Spain and Dublin, but will have to see what the funds say. Ahhh!! Cant wait!!

Im really unhappy hes in such a terrible venue. Glad to hear they are going to have some attempt at tackling touts though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Yeah I think waits would be much more suited to a little intimate setting with dark lights and a rusty stairs leading down to it.

How do they know? Don't they rocket up the prices for sold out gigs though? Their basically a touting website, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

I imagine between 60-80 euro. More than likely 80, but that's a pure guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭KingLoser

They've been priced at about $80 - $120 in the US if that's any help.

No news on the tour dates for Europe yet, but I'm watching like a hawk, cannot wait for this gig! I'm going to go to Amsterdam (dream place to see Mr. Waits) and the Dublin gig aswell if funds allow.

They are. They are just making an assumption that they'll be able to get tickets for less than that and will happily sell them on to anyone who is willing to pay their ludicrious prices. Rumour is that there will be credit cards required to be shown to pick up the tickets so there may be no reselling at all (cost price or otherwise) for this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Cool stuff. What about those who use "virtual" credit cards:eek: I'll be using my laser anyway.

So any inside info on when these go on sale anyone? :)

That would be a logistical nightmares between lost/stolen cards, tickets bought as gifts and 3v vouchers etc.

Not to mention people who use someone elses card, actually having to check each ticket with each card and generally being unfair for people who buy tickets, can't make it and then pass them on to relatives/friends what not.

This wont happen and if it does it's a disgrace (and yes, I completely understand the logic behind it but it would a nightmare)

Well it's definitely going ahead for the US tour, I'd say there's a fairly good chance it'll happen over here too

as fair as I know this is quite a common practice in the States, annoying if you buy tickets aand can't go but to beat the scalpers for a gig like this I think it's a great idea. They just need to have enough staff to make sure it runs smoothly

I can't get excited about seeing him in a massive marquee though. Wouldn't be surprised if face value prices hit the €100 mark either

I doubt the promoters would agree to it here, the last thing they need is another ticket debacle, although any thing that helps beat the touts is a good idea by me.....

Ok, Who are these guys www.needaticket.ie and I note that they are offering to take your money for tickets not yet officially released. Mods sorry if I should not have mentioned name but I had nearly (in my excitement) spent 330e on a pair of tickets that are not yet on sale:mad: Is this legal? And has anyone a:mad:ny news as to when these precious babys will be available??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 Spictreacy

blackiebest, i wouldn't go near those guys. I saw that last week and asked around, the general opinion was he's a gangster. Basically an online tout. One story i got was he took the booking and cash but couldn't supply the tickets. Do a search for him on this site, there is a thread on him.
Still no word on tickets for this yet. Head wrecking.

Thanks Egan for your useless comment. I have spoken with Hot Press who were amazed that this site could be selling unreleased tickets. They are putting one of there journos on the case and I hope this ends up on the Duffy show. According to hotpress the release should be later this week.

    Hotpress;

Tom Waits plays three nights at The RatCellar in Phoenix Park this July, with tickets going on sale next week. Undoubtedly one of the summer's most hotly-anticipated acts, Tom Waits plays three nights in Dublin on his Glitter And Doom tour, on July 30, 31 and August 1. The shows, which will take place in The RatCellar, Phoenix Park, will be Waits' first Dublin dates since the early '80s. The fully seated gigs are priced from €116.25 and €131.25. Tickets will go on sale this Tuesday May 27 at 9am.

Pricey out, but it'll be worth it. Three nights, woo.

In addition to the above, this is from Aiken Promotions:
The Tom Waits Tour will be subject to new anti-scalper plans, therefore, the following conditions will be in place:-

v Tickets will be Limited to 2 per person

v A Valid I.D (Passport or driving licence) is required at time of purchase

v A Valid I.D (Passport or driving licence) matching the name on the ticket is required at entry to venue.

v All Tickets will be Scanned for validation on entry to the show

v Any Tickets resold will be refused entry to the venue

v Only Tickets purchased from Official Ticketmaster outlets will be valid

v No resale allowed under any circumstances

You would in theory be able to do both but I wish you luck in getting tickets for both!

    This is a good question!

I want to go to Prague aswell as Dublin, and will be in the same situation as you if they wont allow me to buy more than 2 tickets...

    Anyone working for ticketmaster...?

Can someone help me understand this ticket thing? If I but two tickets for my two sons, using my credit card, will they be refused entry to the gig?.
Or do I have to give them the credit card to show at the door? I'm confused.

I would presume that the buyers name will be on the ticket so therefore the buyer must be one of the two to attend the concert to gain entry. My sister wants two tickets but will get me to try for her as she cant at work. So are these tickets valid if I dont go with her?

Yes Im thinking a lot of clarification required from Ticketmaster. Can they legally stop you entering a venue if you have a valid ticket?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 196 ✭✭Stef1979

I just phonedTicketmaster...when I finally got through to them they guy had never heard of Tom Waits (I had to spell his name for him), had no information on the venue and was unaware of any dates even though I was reading the information from their website!!:confused:....Im no clearer on if they'll be on sale on the website or how the tickets work if I book them and both tickets have my name on them but the person with me doesnt have the same surname!!:confused:.................

I'd imagine you enter you driving license number or passport number and it's put on the ticket and then checked on the door. But if no ticket is issued does that mean you queue twice at the venue? i.e. Once at the ticketmaster booth to get your pass and verify it then in a queue for the venue to handover your pass!
Thing that worries me is that if you suddenly find you can't attend, with this system you can't sell your ticket or tickets so you have to bin them, so possibly 280 euro in the bin, because as we know ticketmaster operate a strict no returns policy!

It seems that way but hold on, even if they have your card the ID (driving license or Passport) won't match so no entry!!! Because ticketmaster will probs say that they might have mugged you and took your ticket and card.

I'm a massive fan and was really looking forward to seeing him but I'm afraid they've gone a step too far this time with the ticket prices. 70-90 would have been plenty. It seems that they're well aware that plenty of people like me would consider him a 'must-see' no matter what the cost and are taking advantage of the fact.
It maybe time to recreate the glory of my teenage bailing into gigs years :pac:

[Hypothetical] Lemme get this right you could buy 2 tickets on your credit card, then sell one for say 700 quid on the affirmation you take the person to the gig with you, so you both get in? [\Hypothetical]

Now I hate touts, but surely thats one way around it?

I'm of two minds about the whole ticket price thing. But more than likely i'm going.

    However.........

    Phoenix €58 ($90)
    El Paso €51 ($80)
    Houston €55 ($85)
    Dallas €55 ($85)
    Columbus €55 ($85)
    Jacksonville €55 ($85)
    Mobile €55 ($85)
    Birmingham €55 ($85)
    Atlanta €42/€55/€67 ($65/$85/$105)

    Barcelona €100/€125
    Milan €90/€125
    Prague ?
    Paris €69.70/€100.50/€139
    Edinburgh €95/€120 (£75/£95)

    Dublin €116.25/€131.25

A price under €100 I would consider, and maybe if it was in a venue like Vicar Street. Doubt it's possible I could stomach more than that for one act in a venue that could very well be dire.

About this ticket system they are using... I wonder what one ticket-wielding chap would do in a situation where he can't or decides not to go to the gig? Will Ticketmaster willingly change the name on the ticket?

Perhaps - but I bet it would involve a massive "transfer" fee or some other horseshít.

On the Vicar St. thing - if this gig was in a venue like that I'd have no apprehension about the ticket price whatsoever... in fact I recall Neil Young playing there a few years ago for around the same price (which would have been worth more at the time, obviously) and thinking it was worth it.

My biggest concerns about this gig revolve around it being in a tent - I want to know what the capacity is, what the sound is going to be like and what the seating arrangements are. They're all things that could make or break this gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Definitely flogen, don't want it to be in some ****ty tent with wind and rain blowing in and thousands of people crammed in with a ****ty little stage.
