i'm on the same boat, results will be out on the 18th of aug, im 18 since last december. if the application started in a week for example do you have to show results strait away or when you go to aptitude test cause if it was the latter we would be grand as it would take weeks before we get a test

I'm 99% certain you will be able to go ahead and apply. It would only be logical. At a later time during the recruitment process they would then look for your results, if you did'nt meet the required standard then you'r gone. If my memory serves me correctly this situation arose before and applicants awaiting leaving cert results could go ahead and apply.
It's probable that the recruitment process would start until after the leaving results are out anyway. If I were you I'd be going ahead and getting the aptitude test prep material.

hi, just a question here maybe somebody could fill me in,
im just wondering what the process is if i am sucessfull in the three stages of the next upcoming campaign....how long could i expect to be waiting untill i would be in templemore? is there many people who have already completed the stages that would have priority or how does that bit work??
    all coments welcome thanks.

Apparently there are about 300 waiting, most with everything done, just waiting to be called, and the rest waiting for medical and pct.
if your successful in aptitude test then your called for interview a few months later. if successful in that your asked to fill out a really long form and submit it for a background check. the time this takes varies person to person. it depends on stuff like how many relations you have, weather there in the country or not and of course what you've done in the past, while this is happening you will be called for a chat with your local super so he can recommend you. if this is all successful you'll be called for a medical and then the fitness test and then your in.

i dont think anyone here can put a time scale on the whole process. i applied in early 08 (i think, been so long) and did medical and pct late last year. we've all been waiting different times. it all depends when the minister announces an in take and decides how many he'll take in and how many intakes he will have in the next few years.

sorry if its all a bit general but thats all i no.

You'll find the answers to everything you need to know if you read through the threads.
Everyone already in the system has priority and then it falls down to how quickly your processed and then on order of merit.
There is no definite timescale to anything...there's about 350 people waiting since May 08 and some from before that

thanks for the info,ya im goin to check up on them prep courses soon , im also thinking about doin a first aid course and manual handling course just to have them , they only take a few days i hav swimming certs from when i was young so hopefully they will stand to me. . on the whole public jobs situation ther must be something happening , the last time it was under maintenance they changed around a few things, plus they would have put garda trainee back up in latest info strait away again if they wer not goin to do something , its not like theres no room for it thers only 1 alert under it. . fingers crossed :D:)

The basic first aid is good to have, get if from a reputable source provider. There is talk that the ECDL will be a requirement sometime in the future. Another handy thing to have.
I think there's going to be movement very soon.
Best of luck with it. Hope ya make it! But don't be under any illusions. It's NOT going to be easy to get in. Aim as high as you can and prepare prepare prepare.

Isn't it going to be like 30,000+ applying for about 100 places? I think I'd rather hold out and burn a few more years in College than face competition like that

There is a hovering misconception courtesy of the fabulous irish media that there are X thousand people going for 100 Gardai jobs. This is completely incorrect. If 20,000 people apply this time round, x amount will not show up or will fail stage 1, x amount will fail stage 2, x amount will be rejected on background checks/ recommendation from local station, x amount will fail med or pct. Those who dont fall at any hurdle once approved by the commissioner etc etc will be offered a place at some stage. They dont just take 20,000 people and whittle them down to the last 100 as the media are making out. It is very possible to pass every stage if you are dedicated enough. And as for the '100 places' up for grabs, as has been stated time and time again on this forum the people already on the panel waiting to go will be taken first. More than likely no one applying this time round will make the next intake. Some of you may make the one after that, and some the one after that etc... If you want it go for it. But do your research. Dont let tabloid headlines knock you.

i agree with bluebelle if you really want the gardai bad enough you will put in the effort and the amount of effort you put in will show the rewards after..

Absolutely spot on Blue Belle, most people who apply in the upcoming campaign will be waiting for a year at least i reckon to begin training in Templemore. It took me just under a year to be accepted into the Garda Reserve. If you are committed and prepare well you will succeed regardless of how many people apply.:)

    No offence;
But the Garda you were talking to must remove his head from the sand cause its been confirmed time and time again by Minister Ahern and the Commissioner that the existing panel will be used to fill next few intakes.

I think at this stage we've all realised that serving Gardai don't have a clue of whats going to happen with regards to recruitment. I've talked to Chief Supers that dont know.
(unless its someone in a very high position, ie: Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner)

Hi bobtwigs. It takes the guts of a year to get people through the recruitment process when things are actually moving. If there are 300 people waiting, on average some won't take up the offer, some will fall at one of the last hurdles and some will drop out of the competition altogether. Realistically, the majority of people waiting could possibly be taken in in the next intake. After that they will have very few people on the panel and they need a certain length of time to get an approved panel ready to go.

In other words, if they take in a large intake in say October they then have no panel left to recruit from should the need arise, unless they start a new campaign fairly shortly. So no, it's not strange that there is talk of a new campaign. It's not a case of apply for a job and get it the following week. It takes time. Hope that clarifies things for you.

These kind of posts are unfounded and unhelpful. Please understand that people reading this board are waiting with baited breath for news of an intake and unless you are willing to post a reliable source, then label the post as a rumour. Plenty of members of the Gardai have heard various rumours regarding recruitment, it doesn't make them true.

Seems more like a rumour made up to coincide with the last statement and own personal beliefs.
The sooner the facts and realisation of how the recruitment process works the better and people will stop posting nonsense.

You must pass a medical before you commence training, this includes vision.

i was due to have lasik done, but mornin of surgery my surgeon decided that lasek is more advisable for those joinin ags, lasik involves the creation of a flap which could possibly dislodge upon a knock to the eye which is why he decided on lasek for me. It takes longer to recover but it's worth it, i'm not sure if you need to be over 21 for lasek but do your research on both. Ask your optician to see if you are within the vision standards before you do your medical (which could be a long time), i'm open to correction but i think you need to have had the surgery done for at least a few months before the medical, as it takes that long for your vision to reach the optimum standard. I would definitely recommend it, i have 5050 vision now

As far as I rem once you register your interest in the job thats it, you then get an email when the campaign opens asking you to ring a no to book your aptitude test. if you pass the aptitude test then you will be told to download a form from public jobs which, if i rem correctly, includes some personal details, all previous address, education and work details, oh and scenarios. the interviewers will have this form in front of them and will question you on everything.
