trying to decide between castle barna & south county jsc on 6/6 but havent played either course before. anyone familiar with them to offer advice?

Never played Castle Barna so can't comment. Junior Cup qualifying was at South County at the weekend so I'd say there'll be a good field returning for the Junior Scratch Cup.

Anyone heading to Headfort on Saturday, get the sunscreen in the bag!!

From the Met: "The June Bank Holiday weekend will be dry, warm and sunny with temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees generally."

Anyone know any Scratch cups anywhere in Munster/Leinster on the w/end of 27/28 June as am off that week before playing Mount Juliet & Fota Island so wouldn't mind catching a scratch cup on the way back up...

If I see you carrying a bag for 36 holes in hot conditions I'm going to slap you ;)
    Seriously though, surely you wouldn't...?

I can't drink redbull on a golf course as the shakes are bad enough on the greens without Caffine getting it's grips...

Loads of nuts/raisons, Water, Sunscreen and leaving the wet gear in the car (could be asking fro trouble)

Yeh saw the forecast for the weekend, so Headfort will be hot. Thinking of carrying the bag in the morning and using powerkaddy in the afternoon (18 hole battery). Im sure the battery would give up half way thru the second 18.

Depending what time you're out, it could well be 4.5-5 hour rounds so yeh, i'd say it could well quit halfway round. Save the trolley for the afternoon.

Lucan Junior Scratch Cup (36 holes strokes)
    Sunday 12th July

    See attachment for details.

Folks - I'm involved in organising the JSC in our club this year so I'd be grateful if you could attend and/or pass the word around your club and friends.

The entry fee includes the cost of food (soup & sandwich) to be provided after 18 holes and a Junior Cup Special menu will also be in operation on the day with menu items priced at €8 approx. We have a new caterer working onsite since Xmas and the members are very happy with him and his staff.

    Regards,
    Madds

I don't think it will be a scrum like the Headfort or Baltray SC's to get onto the timesheet but there are a group of us actively pushing this with all Leinster clubs, and guys we know from other clubs. I suppose what I'm saying is that the earlier you get on the better. Jim McBride is the pro in Lucan and he'll happily take your name and add you to the list. Thanks for the interest & support lads.

Course (Par 71) is average in length off the medal plates (6600 yards I think) and is relatively flat with some water. As the name suggests there are trees everywhere and the course is tight enough in places. The rough is also pretty unforgiving and if you're wayward off the tee you are guaranteed punishment. The greens are great at the moment and the course is in good shape.

The prevailing wind crosses the course and adds alot of difficulty. On paper it may seem handy enough but scores of around +5 over 36 holes normally isn't too far away.

    75/73 won it last year

The opposite of what I was hoping for. Let the punishment begin... :(

Good luck to one and all playing in Headfort tomorrow. Let's hope the golf matches the weather forecast!

What was the winning score in Headfort folks? How did ye fare?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 120 ✭✭Hunty

    76-76

Carnage! Went into it playing well but not really knowing the course, just struggled all day long. Five lost balls and two horrendous scores. Beautiful courses all the same, so not hard to enjoy playing shyte. Shame about the greens but I'd imagine they're usually much better.

I was the exact same, NR halfway through the first 18. It was like a weight was lifted off me and I actually played some good golf on the old course.

My driver was lucky to come home in 1 piece, I hit 1 fairway on the new course. My shortgame was pretty sharp so it just sums up how poor my long game was.

The greens were shocking, and despite holing some decent long puts i missed quite a few 2 to 3 footers because the grain was throwing the ball all over the place.

The lads I played with were sound and I got a nice suntan so not all bad!

Looking forward to Baltray now, was there yesterday for the final day of the East and the place was immaculate. Cutler was pretty savage and a deserved winner!

Anyone know the Standard Scratches from headfort?

Thought the greens were generally ok on Saturday, running very true. They were quite slow though. They were certainly better than €7.50 for a ladel of cold soup and a few 1/4 sandwiches. Total rip-off.

Dont know exactly Graeme but I'd say 75 wouldn't be too far off the mark for the morning, although I'd say all the NR'S won't help.
