Yeah I think it was full at 11.30am - quickest fill-up I've ever heard of for a Junior Scratch but to be expected from what I know.

how did you guys do in Bray on Sunday ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 Aussie Golfer

What a waste, 39 on the front nine including a double on 6 but then 45 on the back with 3 doubles and a 3 putt from about 10 feet on 18!

Finished with 74 nett but in the conditions should have been so much better.

    Results are here. http://www.braygolfclub.com/members/items.asp?NCID=388&NID=&NewsID=1177&ParentID=386

I paid the price for not knowing the course. 15 solid holes with two doubles and a treble to wreck the card.

Highlights of the day were hitting a 4 iron second shot into the 5th par 5 to six feet, and a tee shot on the 194 yard par 3 13th, also to six feet.

Lowlights of the day were missing both putts ;)

What's the story with the timesheet re Headfort lads? I can't remember from last year, but do they just stick the times up on the website or do we ring up a few days beforehand?

I don't think they place the draw on the timesheet Graeme. IIRC, I rang their office to find out my times. Not playing this year as I have a stag that weekend. Enjoy it.

Hmmm... the silly thing is that i asked the girl on the phone how i found out my time but i can't for the life of me remember what she said. I really should listen more.

Worse still, i can't remember what happened last year for it. If anyone finds out their, can they tell us on here and i'll know when to phone. Cheers.

Newpark Hotel is the closest hotel http://www.newparkhotelireland.com/
Plenty of B&B's nearby... http://www.rosquilhouse.com/ looks nice - it's newly built so should be good. Anything on the Castlecomer Road is near enough the golf club, as in you could walk to the club from either of the above in less than 10 minutes.
Kilkenny is small so you won't be very far away no matter where you stay. Even if you stayed in Hotel Kilkenny which is the other side of town, you'd only be less than 15 minutes drive away around the ring road....
There is a Days hotel just off the ring road too which might be good value.

The only downside to playing golf in Kilkenny is there are far too many great pubs to drink in!

If you stay around this area, go for a pint in The Nore Bar at Greens Bridge... it's a real local pub... lads love the Guinnesss there. It's only just about a 5 minute walk from Newpark area... I don't suppose you'll be going mad but you can always hit town from there which is another 5ish minutes walk down by the river.

After playing like a diseased gorilla on Sunday, I decided the best think to do would be to enter a 36 hole scratch tournament.... so I put my name down for this Smithwicks Scratch Cup on Saturday!
Hopefully I will get to play as they were over-subscribed but perhaps some people were outside the handicap limit of 4...

It will be my first 36 hole tournament and probably my last senior scratch considering I am off 4.4 :)

I hope they weren't too over subscribed. I missed out on the Dundalk Scratch cup so hoping i'll be low enough for this one. Entered off 2.8 so hopefully that is low enough!!!

    Lads,
Lucan GC are having a Junior Scratch Cup HC 4-9. This is a great track that probably has the best greens around at the moment. Also they just had work done on some of the greens. Word around is that the event is attracting a good field of players. It only costs €30 or so which I think includes soup and sambo. Get your name on quick!
