A lot of the tests are send to labs outside of the country :( which is why there is such a delay.

I didn't know that. I thought most fertility testing was done in Ireland apart from the more detailed blood testing for immune issues or in some cases smear tests but most clinics can now do smears tests with a two weeks turn around for a etra charge.

I've had a lot of testing done for fertility and most delays were due to waiting lists to get to see fertility Drs. Once you get your foot in the door it can be fairly fast moving with some clinics.

I have to say my doc has been great. I first went in sept but had to wait for my cycle last month to do all tests. she put me down for appointment with specialist in oct after 1st set of tests were done and i got 2 appointments. One private for this month and public for june next year  so needless to say Im going this month. Thank god for insurance.
I cant believe someones doc would wait for 3 months after doing bloods before doing any more. All in all I can say really that we have been waiting a month or so and thats cause my o/h has been taking his time in getting around to doing his tests. I've been 3 times to doc and she only charged for 1 visit. Shes been great - explaining everything and answering all questions i have had.

Are you in Ireland? Can you pm me your doctors details? I'm getting charged a fortune for very little and desperately seeking a decent doctor. Thanks.

We started the long road of trying for a baby this morning. My hubby is just off steroids (for crohns) so we are not expecting anything for a few months. Am a diabetic and am keeping my blood sugars very low just in case though and am avoiding coffee. Wish us luck! (Oh, am nearly 35 so it may be harder for us to concieve).

    Hi All,

New to this thread and just read through all the posts. Some heartbreaking stories out there. The very best of luck to you all who are hard ttc.

Just one quick question. Thinking of starting the whole ttc journey and have two mths left of taking pill, but plan to get off it then. Have bn on pill for over 6 yrs now. Can anyone tell me how long it normally takes to get preggers after being on pill that long. Or any of you that were on it that long, how soon you got preggers after?

    Thanks!

Some people get pg right off the pill but some doctors recommend waiting a couple of cycles to give your body a chance to adapt.

    Hi Aisling,

Thanks for your post. I hadn't thought about giving my body a chance - good point. Thanks for the advice. Did think though it took a while to get preggers after being on pill so long. Obviously not the case so for everyone!

Wishing you some good luck soon.

    Hi all!
I'm new to this . . . both boards and trying to conceive! I've just come off the pill after 5 years and I haven't got a clue what my cycle length is. Both my husband and I are extremely impatient and now that we have decided to start a family we expect it to happen instantly! One instant family please! :) Unfortunately, many of ye know that it's not that easy. I only hope that I can be as strong and as positive as you have been, should I need to be.
Because I haven't a clue of my cycle length, we're adopting the 'have sex every second day just in case' method, and I have to say we're having a lot of fun!!! :p
Of course because we are so impatient, I have also been using an ovulation prediction kit. This has only served to freak me out and panic me!
I'm on day 18 now and still no positive result. I'm beginning to wonder where my eggs are? Of course I'm blaming the stick. Surely it has to be the stick's fault?
I know it's early days but I just needed to get all that concern out of my system!! Phew, feel a little better now!
Before I go home to my husband to again embark on some baby-making (hopefully) I'd just like to ask . . .
does anyone know anything about measuring your basal temperature as I've heard it's one of the most accurate ways to predict ovulation?
    Any feedback would be great.
Sorry for the big long rant! :)

Hi and welcome to the TTC journey. :)

BBT is when you take your temperature each morning when you immediately wake up before you get out of bed or even yawn at the same time every day and note it down on a chart. I recommend www.fertilityfriend.com which is handy to jot your temps and your other signs (Cervical Mucus, Emotions, Moods etc) and it will often tell you which day (around abouts) you ovulated and even when the best time to test is. After a few charts I think you can predict when you will ovulate. It's a great tool but you have to be consistent and try not to over-analyse each little temperature change. Get a thermometer that measures to a hundreth of a degree eg. 36.55. Most thermometers only go to one tenth ie 36.5 but the subtle changes between those two figures can mean a lot.

I've done charting but really it can make you crazy. I'd suggest trying it after a while of trying without.

Also, with the OPK it is often necessary to test once in the morning and once at night to catch the LH surge. Sometimes it only lasts a few hours and if you are only testing once a day you might miss it.
I think an easier way of tracking ovulation is through investigating (gross I know) your cervical mucus and cervical position.

    Good luck.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to boards and relatively new to Ireland. I moved here a little over a year ago to be with my boyfriend after our son was born in the UK (where I'm from).

We would love to have more children but unfortunately I no longer have any ovaries, although I am still capable of carrying children (thanks to the HRT patches!).

I would like to look into egg donation in Ireland but don't really know where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone currently ttc. x

    hi eco brats.

congrats on your desicision to have more kids (hopefully) some, not all of the fertility clinics in ireland do egg donation as far as i know, your best bet would be to google fertility clinics (sims, hari, clane, merrion, the kilkenny clinic, cork fertility clinic are some of the more well known ones)hopefully you will get some infor there.

    Hi Ecobrat

I am registered onto this site and there are lots of other girls doing egg donation etc... flying to Barcelona and other countries.

Your best bet is to register here and you can get all your proper info here from Irish girls who have gone down this route and succeeded!!!

    Best of luck!!

Back here again. We wont want to try to concieve for about 2 months at least, though this time it will be fraught with worry as we concieved immdeiatly the last time but lost our baby at 9.5 weeks...more putting this up in hope rather than anything else.

aah cathy, im sorry to hear that, nothing i can say will make you feel any better for what you have to go through, take it easy and look after yourself and dh.

Well my resolve not to try for a baby did not last long, blame my sexy husband...not really trying this month but not exactly not trying...next month the hubby will be tired. The last time we tried we did it every second day and it seemed to work...

best of luck with that cathy! :D
unfortunately i'm not having much luck myself. don't know if i'm coming or going with my flippin cycle. starting to think there's something wrong now. surely my cycle cannot be this long or irregular? maybe my body's still readjusting to being off the pill . . . but i'm not convinced.

I'm the same. I came off the pill in January and I'm currently in the middle of my second cycle. The first one was 42 days. I'm on day 21 at the moment and still haven't ovulated.

I'm tracking the basal temperature now and I'm 97.18 every day! I thought my thermometer was broken it's so consistent! At least I'll be able to see the change when it happens.

I went the first cycle without temperature tracking and I found it quite stressful, so I'm glad I'm doing it now, at least I'll know when I've ovulated, last cycle I thought I did on day 16, but it was probably more like 2 weeks later!

Don't worry about irregular/long cycles after coming off the pill, it could take a year to become regular again, but this is not to say you can't get pregnant!

I would advise getting a basal thermometer, then at least you can track when you've ovulated and when you can reasonably expect your period to come. It definitely took the uncertainty out for me this month, I'm much more relaxed about it, which can only be a good thing. :)

    Kittencaboodle,
Thank you for your advice and also for sharing!
I feel 100 times better just knowing that someone else is going through the same thing! Day 64 now and not a sign of my period. I'm not even sure I have ovulated yet! Have ordered a thermometer today so hopefully that will help too. Thanks again

I think this is a well needed thread.

I have been trying for nearly a year now ......... I know I could be doing alot more to be helping the situation ie loosing weight eating more healthy food etc. I have arranged to get a fertility test done ........

......... I know it takes an average of 6-12 mths but I am tired of waiting

My sister has invited us up to dinner tonight and I have high suspisions that she is about to announce her own pregnancy.......

Well I posted the above just over a year ago. I went to my sisters that night were I was indeed told she was pregnant but was spotting - I felt sick with guilt that I was feeling jealous while she was going through this. As it turned out her pregnancy was fine and her baby boy was born four months ago as healthy as can be (apparently some women can have spotting right through there pregnancy and there is no danger)

A month later I was pregnant unfortunately lost the baby at 7 weeks. Three months later we tried again and had a chemical miscarriage - heartbroken.

Since then we (myself and DH) have been avoiding sex as I think we are both sick of failing. However as time has gone by I know I really want this and no matter what I am trying everything to get our baby.

I have lost just over one and a half stone, changed my diet etc

DH is taking the tablets that help you get off the cigs - Sunday is his last day - fingers crossed. (By the way does any one know if it is alright for a man to take those tablets whilst trying to concieve)

So now new motivated me will hopefully be posting some time before July to say that I am pregnant and give you all hope that this can be done and we all deserve a family

    Sorry for long post

No luck this month, even though I had all the signs :( I did a test that was 98% accurate and it said that we were not lucky...I was really hoping that we would be, even though it would have meant cutting down on birthday celebrations next weekend...really dissapointed :(

Sorry to hear that. You'll get there though! Apparently you only have a one in four chance of conceiving if you do everything right and at the right time. I know I deffo put a lot of weight behind some symptoms I was having last cycle even though we hadn't done it any day near the ovulation date :)

You could go to the doctor and see what they say about this. I know if you're 100% not pregnant they can give you something to encourage the start of your period. I dunno if they'll do this if you're actively ttc though.

No luck this month for us either. My cycle is between 24 and 29 days, which means every second night for 2 weeks :-) Did everything right even little trip to Paris right in the middle, so we were relaxed but no joy :-( This means no doing Santa next year again. We'll keep trying and enjoying, good thing the sex is good and my hubbie super sexy.
