This is what I'm getting right now, it is sooo slow. Both the blue light and the red light are lit up. Usually its just the blue light.

Was just about to take a chance and buy one of these modems, but decided to check here first.. Phew! :)

Using Irish BB (Wireless) at the moment and it's painful. Getting speeds of:

In Dun Laoghaire/Monkstown - anybody know what o2 speeds are like here?

    Cheers.

Has anyone else been having speed problems recently, for the last 5 days or so it has been running at snails pace, haven't been able to watch videos and even a normal page is taking a long time to load, it has done this in the past but never for such a long period of time.

I have a E220 modem, and since my contract is coming to a end this month, I'm think of switching to 3 and getting the E180 modem, would anyone advise against this, my alternative is sticking with O2 and getting the E170 modem.

It's muck i was getting around 2meg connection with them at the start

then it went to where you are now, gave them the gate with ntl since

10meg connection and it's flying €38 is a bit pricey but theres 2 laptops

running of it and a x box

o2 and all the rest of them just over load and don't upgrade the infrastructure

hence less than dial up speeds

well thats not entirely true, they couldn't keep up with demand if they wanted to I imagine given the costs of the technology and getting more bandwidth to the mast.

They'd end up losing money and the technology probably isn't even capable of delivering such speeds ATM.

Well their losing money by the likes of me and 5 people that i know of

leaving them, pretty easy to work out muck speeds = bye bye

3 on NBS intend to charge over 250 per Gigabyte over cap.

People sometimes get huge bills for mobile data usage. You never do on fixed broadband. You missed the point.

2hours of TV a day via Internet could be 160Gbyte a month.

With 3 if you go over the 15GB you have a 70 credit limit after that your modem will not connect and you will need to contact them. Also when you reach the 15GB you receive a text message informing you of this and every time you connect after that you also receive a text telling you your getting charged outside the 19.99

Any one who is thinking that O2 is bad hasn't tried 3 with the NBS. Its an absolute joke. Customer service is non existent.
Why are we paying these b*****rds €80 million for rubbish. You just have to look at the complaints about 3 on here almost 500 pages. Its just a pity that Eamon Ryan didn't look at that before he gave them the contract.

Stick to O2 at least when things go wrong you get to speak to some one who knows what they are talking about.

thats very good for mobile broadband and at a near peak time aswell

anyone use their o2 broadband away from home and if so is there alot of 3G signal around ?? ive been travelling up and down to dublin using the 3 dongle very good connection stopped off at a small village on the way home connection dropped and went to GPRS says its roaming on vodafone IE still using my usage but no extra charge for connecting to vodafone so your guarenteed GPRS everywhere at least with vf and 3 as vf have the best GSM coverage in the country their 3G is dismal thats where vodafone feked up!! the o2 modem is a bit over priced and download cap is no good so i prefer 3 but as i say other providers may work better for other people in areas which 3 is no good in !!

this is a speed test from 3 in boughmount dublin not to bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭jay93

Speedtest.net result. Had O2 BB up to June of last year. Tried out the "try before you buy" option to see if things had improved with it. Seems not. Location is Carrick Rd. Dundalk. Was getting 3 out of 5 bars with the 3G signal. Guessing mast contention is knocking down the speeds way down though.

compare this to vodafone, tested vodafone just now.
it works best with the compass 888 modem, as the k3765 modem is totally cack.

all mobile internet connections are much the same really,

Can anyone help with a quick question. I'm on O2 Broadband (the usb dongle) and, as you can see from above, I'm getting good speeds from it. However, I'm a bit confused by some of the information on the 'statistics' tab. Even when I'm not downloading or uploading anything (not even a browser window open, the statistics tab on the O2 program tells me that I'm downloading and uploading at speeds of 950 kbps and 250 kbps respectively. The downloaded and uploaded data is way off.

Has anyone had this problem before? I'm worried that I'm going to go over the traffic limit (I think it's 10 GB) before the end of the month.

    Thanks.

I dont think that's an issue, mine it the exact same. Think it's just available speed possible

With regards usuage i've been on everynight for 3 months since i signed up and i haven't hit 6GB yet so my 15GB per month is not in danger :pac: Granted i'm only on youtube, betfair, e-bay etc, messenger etc
You can check your daily, monthly and year to date usage anyway.

There were some other threads on here about guys getting ripped off for going over the limit even though they said they never downloaded stuff. Don't know how they got on after.

I'm in Cork City (south-side) and O2 broadband is rubbish. I bought it initially thinking that it would only get better. I've had it for 18 months and its got progressively (regressively?) worse. I'm on the lookout for a new provider. Trying to connect between 6 - 9 pm weekdays can be a real chore.
Been with them on a student contract for only 10€/month. You can imagine that at that price I was willing to put up with crap but I am getting more timeouts than with the slowest dialup. I was on to them and as many here was told that the engineers are looking into it ant they' call back...yada yada yada. They never call back andd when I called today( 19c/call) this very nice guy seem to be aware that it was crap but kept on coming up with all sorts of excuses about my computer not having the browser history cleaned...bull****. I use CCleaner and it lloads at startup, besides we have 3 computers and O2 is useless on all . Since they are laptops we used them on other connections as well and worked great as they should one is brand new and all are well equipped.I even bought a n Edimax router and mounted it on the window cill where the mast is visible- I get constant 80% signal that way but in real terms I still cannot make use of it-still times out and loads slower than dialup. It actually timed out twice as I was singning in here , I cannot buy my bus ticket online because it times out and on facebook is useless to the point that I have friends wondering why I don't reply to them...It's crap in real terms regardless of what I tried with their tech help and the buttom line is tha tI cannot say that I have BB. Is much faster to use your 2G phone...The mast is about 2mi away on the garda station within view and here are my speeds:If you are going to only use it on the bus and on the go there's probably nothing better but otherwise do a trial and do not believe it will get better cause it does not and while they are nice and helpful they won't call you back and the service won't get better. With what I pay I certanly tried everything I knew to make it work but it's time to face the sad truth-need true BB for home.

wow thats sh1te does your modem show a green or blue light on it when its powered up ? green =GPRS EDGE signals blue=3G High speed signals if its on green that would explain the crappy speeds and disconnects if its on blue then thats a bad thing may i suggest a new provider i know the price of it is cheap but if its this bad at connecting its not even worth that better off paying for a service that actually works

    762453495.png

not bad here i done a test same time last night 4.32 mb.s i was like whoaaa never seen midband going so fast lol theres defo something up with your connection im with o2 temporary and so far so good notice a slow down to 1mb between 5-11pm before and after them times its always above 2mb

    just done another test 762456702.png

happy days and since im a night owl i benefit from these speeds while every1 else sleeps well not so much 2nite as its friday so shall i say while every1 else gets p1ssed !!!!!

Going to contact them tomorrow for what will probably be the fifth time, usually get some crap about engineers looking at it and we'll call back.. which they don't and upgrading the mast.

Think I'll try cancel the contract as they aren't providing the service advertised..
