Been trying to get eircom for ages - (carrier line issue) so got the o2 (Co Roscommmon) - well impressed so far (apart from the seemingly constant disconnection - suppose will have to put up with that!) still in 30 day happyness thing so will see how it goes;)

If you're using Vista, disconnections could be caused by a recent update. See the previous page or here (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055289906&referrerid=59211) for more details.

not a single good word about '3'

Looks like in half an hour I start testing O2 in Waterford Area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,343 ✭✭✭beazee

Went to o2 shop and heard they're short on modems...

Went so to '3' shop and took prepaid broadband. No registration, 99e for modem (returned in 14 days if not satisfied) and 10e top-up for week testing.
25e for whole month and 10GB allowance.

Couldn't make the connection in home.
    Sitting in car and getting:
    318847234.png
    318854911.png
    318851446.png

    It's cheaper than o2 and not-so-binding... + 'posh' dingle
but no BB @home means 10e thrown on testing only... sad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,343 ✭✭✭beazee

but there is always Carphone Warehouse near you...

got '3' back to shop and took O2 30-day contract for 30e/mth
and here you find a comparison:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=57169003#post57169003

'3' dingle may be 'poshy' but is simply slow...
o2 performance is killing me when remind '3'

    thank you

Currently in Templemore, Co. Tipperary. O2 Mobile Broadband is great and works well only once was a period of outage for about 36 hours because of an error on the base station located on the mast in the Garda College according to o2.

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 1570 kbps (196.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 830 kbps (103.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 169 ms

Where can you buy o2 bb from? Ive tried their online shop but its either not working or sold out.

And would shops have the same cheap options ? €20 a month.

    Thanks

Only the refurbished E270 is out of stock, pick a different modem. Failing that, try the O2 shops?

Using 02 in Leitrim since the day it came out. 300kb to 1.5mb most of the day & all night. Useless 5pm to 8pm lately. Not great in mornings or sunshine ...yep! ...I've tried every alternative bar satellite & nothing else works at my house.

I should have according to contract 7.2Mbs but 99% of time I have 236Kbs besides it keeps disconnecting all the time. My house is only 1 mile from their mast. O2 broadband is useless. I can't even read the text webpages so I'm not even dreaming to download something. I've made a complaint. They are searching for problem already 2 months and will continue to do so till the next millenium. I am about to log a complaint somewhere else as this is not what I'm paying for. Typical Irish ripp-off.
My advice to anybody-only acceptable broadband in Ireland is Chorus/Ntl and if you can't get it then don't go for anything.

I'm in Cork City (south-side) and O2 broadband is rubbish. I bought it initially thinking that it would only get better. I've had it for 18 months and its got progressively (regressively?) worse. I'm on the lookout for a new provider. Trying to connect between 6 - 9 pm weekdays can be a real chore.

Almost all 3G gets worse as more customers are added. The theory is to x4 the number of masts when a cell is congested, but the ROI numbers only work for voice calls. They make 1/500th to 1/1000th the money from Data Contracts in terms of traffic per user and connection times.

Just got my 02 mobile broadband package this morning, and I'm going to try it out for a month to see if it all works as it says on the tin. So far I'm impressed. I am based in Galway city, and I am getting the following up and down speed, indoors:
    2043 download
    270 upload

Can be a small bit patchy, but so far, I am plugging out the 1mb broadband landline that I have with BT broadband, and testing it out for the day.

Does anyone else have any good or bad speeds from 02 broadband?

I have o2 mobile broadband for just over a year now. At first the signal was tolerable low level broadband with decent speed at times <than 1mb I reckon. 6 months on and it was a rapid descent to dial up speed & worse. For the past couple of months I must be crazy staying with them -probably cause in parts of co meath theres not many options! Anyway I contacted O2 about the service I use to have & they just said'Oh theres an issue there with your mast but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm that they could rectify the 'issue'! I'm fed up and have now decided to get rid of O2 cause it is a disgrace on their part to refer to the service i'm getting as remotely = to broadband. Be warned!!

Hi, Can anyone recommend which mobile Broadband provider to go with in the Trim area of Meath, not a huge user merely the odd hour in the evenings and at the weekend, but slowness drives me mad

So any advice would be welcome

    Thanks in advance

You could get up to 7.2Mbps, as that's currently the max, in practice though, you'll never actually get that.

I'm about 500m from the mast in Raheen business park, so this is a very good speed. The further away you get, the slower that'll be.

You could also get nothing at all, depending on where exactly you are, and who else is using it right now.

Get one of them on trial, should be able to use it for 2 weeks, and if it doesn't work, bring it back. Apart from that, no one can actually say what your experience will be.

I would but they charge you €79 for the modem on a 30 day contract (that costs 30eur a month),
I was more appealing to someone in the areas experience

I got 700kbps to 1.2Mbps only 700m from mast in village near Limerick. About 110ms to 220ms latency and about 50k to 100k upload.

What ever speed you get will get poorer with time as more customers get added where you live. A Mast slows to dialup speed with 20 to 40 people connected.

It depends entirely on which mast you are on, how far you are from it (max about 2km = 100kbps) and how many others use it.

as watty says above, i seem to remember as similiar type thread when 3 launched their broadband initially last yr..i think enjoy it while you can, word will spread it's fast and this will attract more customers and once this happens, speeds will die off..o2 still only have their network backhauled using PDH 2Mb links, theoretically having 3 of these will give u approx 4.5Mb, one user in ideal radio conditions so it;s easy to see how this will drop pretty quick...

I'm in the market for mobile broadband and I'm seriously considering o2.

Can anyone tell me is there any problems with speed etc in the Dublin area at the moment?
Is there special offer still available? the 30 day happiness guarantee....

You really need to try the broadband in your area until you know for sure, such is the nature of mobile broadband,
I think the 30 day happiness is gone and it's now only 7 days.. The limit is 7.5gb for the month..and it costs €25pm......3 offer a 14 day money back guarantee with a 10gb limit for 19.99pm....Vodafone is 30pm so it's not really at the races...
