I can understand them just fine-I find their unique take quite entertaining as it happens.

Reminds me of the olden days.

    Jaysus!!!!

They have started cutting the hours of MI already, in one of the biggest crises in the States history.

Let me guess, it will be cut to one presenter and feature ‘inserts’ for the main.

    crazy stuff

    🐷

The good news is that your symptoms are treatable......off with you to a darkened room with a slab of cheap eastern European beer and you should be ok.

PS ...make sure your cat is in a secure safe place....

They will be all be back on 4th January with guns blazing about all the 'crises' we face...and demanding to know what's been done about them since they went on holidays.

How will the nation cope without all the multitude of different presenters on Morning Ireland?

Tommy Mescal will no doubt be back on the tv news.

Usually he is standing outside somewhere, but at Xmas he gets to sit in the big boys and girls seats, while they enjoy an extended Xmas break.

We needn’t worry really. Nothing newsworthy can happen during the long Christmas vacuum. News only happens when there’s somebody to report it.

Just thinking, imagine there was a massive newsworthy event concerning Ireland, like a Boeing 747 ploughing through north Dublin (heaven forbid 😱) and it was just covered in the standard short Christmas news bulletins, whilst next feature is some tape playing of Tara Flynn doing a “comedy” selection about the hilarious ways people act at airports going on holiday. The tape would have e been pre-loaded, and programmed to run, nobody in the office to actually change it, and no expansive coverage about how north Dublin has been half demolished by the suburban ploughing by the aircraft.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is/was the illustrious and perhaps departed author of this epic thread, Brender.

Many in number were the ripe and steaming bolus' of wit and wordplay, skillfully unleashed by the unforgotten Flutther, and hoisted with care and considerable effort, into the hitherto pristine and virginal porcelain whiteness of the boards.ie khazi!

Aaah The Flutt..rare one that lad…..them was the good old days.

They say he was sponsored by Armitage-Shanks….

I'll always remember the night of the Buttevant rail crash in 1980. The news broke around midnight on Radio 1 with the sad news and live reports from the scene etc.

Then the next programme came on with it's usual powerful intro/Jingle "YOU'RE LISTENING TO THE NIGHT TRAIN" complete with the sound of horns and the clickitty clack of trains on the track.

I can't remember who was doing the show on the night, it may have been Mark Cagney but not a word of apology or embarrassment was uttered.

Something similar happened on BBC radio when the Chernobyl disaster happened. I think The Smiths wrote a song about it.

Anyway, as the Brendo mentioned earlier Morning Ireland was cut by an hour which gave us another hour of Shay Byrne who seemed to be après a sugary breakfast.

Christmas cracker jokes and way too much giggling with Des Cahill.

    He's a complete manchild.

It might surprise younger listeners that until the late 90s, RTE Radio had seasonal schedules like Television. For example in summer 1989, Liveline was off air from June until October and Maxi who had just been axed from the 2fm breakfast show hosted a lite music and requests show in it's place, when her show would finish at 3, Ronan Collins came on air till 6 with more lite music and requests, at 6 Brendan Balfe came on air with 6 o clock Rock

Time of a bit of doggerel here I think.

    ***The Spirit of Montrose**

    T’was the season of Xmas

    In a place called Montrose

    The world was in chaos

    With disease of the nose

    ***************

    The big stars were laughing

They were packed for their flight

    If the Fcukking place folded

    Could we give a shïte

    ********************

    The listener was worried

    What would happen with health

    will we have only music

Thats the card we’ve been dealt

    ****************/

    The stand ins were trembling

    The riggers went mad

    The cameras stopped rolling

    No dhrink to be had

    *******************

    So balls to the listener

    We’ll look after our mates

Throw on an auld tape there

    Goggins closes at eight.

up to the mid 80s, there was not much current affairs /news/ debate on radio 1 during the daytime: lots of drama, documentaries, arts shows, classical music, opera, variety concerts, trad music, some general music programmes, book shows, news bulletins, mart reports, fish market reports etc.

It was a wonderful time to be alive. Now because of 24/7 rolling news media, idiots go out panic buying toilet rolls after seeing CCP propaganda videos of Chinese people collapsing on the streets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,077 ✭✭✭StevenToast

Morning Propaganda...setting the governments agenda for the day....instill fear with a hugely bloated staff to read different lines to ensure maximum attentiveness and fearfulness of the listener....

Tubridy...fake kindness with misery slots...reinforce our need to be fearful...

Today with Scare Byrne....fear mongering mixed in with nonsense....

    All before lunch.....

Sure how could you not pay the licence fee....well over €1,000,000 in staff salaries for 4 presenters of those 3 programmes alone...

Tubs is probably off on another windswept walk down Kingstown pier today as poor Oliver was sitting in today.

He should isolate at a BBC Radio 2 studio. Long term.
