What does the bould Justin do for a wedge in Montrose.

Is he the geezer on the Sports team with the beard.

Bren I always thought the answer to that question was “not very much”. Hard to know what a lot of these sports lads might be working at when they’re not on air. But there seems to be a lot of them for comparatively little output on the news, especially at the moment. Justin came through the ranks in news on local radio afaik

I get yer drift Am, if he’s the beardy dude, he doesn’t, in my opinion, put too much enthusiasm or ‘happiness’ into the output.

Wouldn’t be the kind of dude who I would kind of depend on to anchor a new sports prog. in fairness, and make a success of it.

But, I could be totally wrong.

Ok folks as the ‘season’ draws to a close let’s draw the curtain on an abysmal offering.

When the country was on its uppers and in the midst of a pandemic and Brexit the national broadcaster went to sleep.

Recordings, stand in presenters, mindless music, truncated news reports, repeats ,while the public got their info largely from social media.

    Nothing new there.

I nominate Carla O’Brien newsreader as the best newcomer

Bit of a grate to it, for sure, right enough.

But at least she turned up and poor Ronán had to cook his own brekkie.

Extended holidays for Tubridy - until Wednesday - and Claire Byrne, with Bouchier Hayes filling in for "a few days". Ronan due back at 12.00 but Duffy could be doubtful.

Are they taking their money for a walk in the Beehamas?

Another repeat for ‘Sunday with Miriam’, seems a bit excessive.

Just confirmed at the end of the show there that it was first broadcast on the 20th of December. I’m sure there was a repeat last week too but that’s more understandable.

There was a Paul Brady interview aired last night that i'd heard only fairly recently too. If you're going to dip into the archives, at least make it something special and maybe not so recent.

Won’t be for a while Bren, John Kenny in three nights a week for the next while. Not much going on in the world these days, may as well just play a few tunes

in fairness it's difficult to differentiate between any episode, generally has a norn iron angle.

John Kenny doing a good enough job in fairness. Katie Hannon's thing is alright but I've usually had enough talk radio at that stage of the day. No harm in a few good tunes at the end of theevening.

Well then, Shay Byrne was ill over the Christmas, delaying his return...

All go-go-go on Holiday over Montrose way.

Joe Duffy has been off grave blessing for three weeks now and has left Katie Hannon in charge of his misery pit so to speak. Meanwhile Creedon's also taken off for a fortnight and has Fiachna in lieu, with Nadine O'Regan filling in his brogues on Late Date for the last two nights; sure she can probably do with the €50 a gig more than most.

Meanwhile, Late Dates weeknight presenter Cathal Murray has also taken a few days off; longtime regular dogsbody John Kenny is filling in for him for a few shows.

Not to be outdone at the other end of the day, Michael Cahill is standing in for Shay Byrne all week on Rising Time.

In summation all of RTÉ 1 lead music shows and one of it's headline talk shows are missing their presenter for this week bar Ronan Collins. Good scheduling and HR planning all round, eh? I'd say the ad agencies are delira n excira :D

Claire Byrne is using up the last of her 2021 salon vouchers as PBH is busy brandishing the WD40 for the week.

Ballsy is off untill the 8th of January. 3 weeks time. I reckon in terms of euro per hour he must be the most well paid contractors / staff at rte.

It's not like there's much to to dicuss over the next few weeks anyways, take last year for example if you take away the states health service being overwhelmed and on the way to record breaking covid deaths and the one of the most historic days in EU history occuring in Brexit it was hardly worth them showing up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Nevin Parsnipp

PBH in for Claire B this morn....not sure if he will do the two hours...or will we get more time with Uncle Ronan ?

Good time to assess the B team....I'm sure Bendar will be on the case shortly....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,272 ✭✭✭✭Losty Dublin

Posho is in for the 2 hours. Try limiting him to just an hour of talking!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,503 ✭✭✭leath_dub

I actually think he's an upgrade - much less of a sense of hairdresser radio today so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,377 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Yes indeed Parsnipp, congrats to who ever dug up the thread, tried to find it yesterday but failed.

Who be the surprise packet over the Xmas as the ‘stars’ take to the slopes and the vineyards to ‘recover’ from their arduous stint.

Now that opening hours in Goggins are truncated the neckbeards may have to think outside the box.

Of. Course nothing happens in the whole world between the 20th of Dec and Jan 08, not even a tsunami in the Ppines

that poor Charlie was dragged in to report on on St Stephens Day no less.

Jahsus terrible that a national news organisation has to report on ……..news.

Fierce altogether…two bottles of H there Dermot,, we’ll slip into the back room later.. thanks man.

Slightly orf topic...but has the contractor thing been swepp under the carpet or is it still on going ?

On another note Ballsy's ratings have taken a severe dip...is he still on that mega wedge he started out with ?

My sources tell me that the ladies in the pink palace are getting very restive and bolshi about the gender pay disparity...a lot of threats and flouncing I hear from reliable sources??

    Watch this space....

Just the €220,000 for Ballsy in 2019. For a 2 day week.

It really is the easiest number in RTÉ for very very decent pay.

Obviously on Union advocated rates for a private contractor.

Can we have this thread in English please ?

The only comment from today I understood is Brendan Bender

He wasn't doing the MF show in 2019. She died 2nd Jan 20 so you'll see his fees nearer the 300k mark for 2020. That's assuming Dee remembers to publish the figures. She can be a little bit dizzy bless her.
