I'm getting tired of that argument which is ALWAYS used in breastfeeding threads (they're quite regular). You can't compare going for a dump with feeding a baby.

Why? You HAVE to do both to stay alive and, to me, neither are appropriate while in public. I'm getting tired of ALWAYS hearing in an argument that "it's natural". A lot of things are natural but I don't do many of them in public. Men peeing in public is disgusting but they HAVE to go. Pissing on a wall in Temple Bar on Friday night is now allowed!...oh wait, they already do that...

This thread is pointless without a pic or video.

It's not 'wrong' but it's a pretty damn fcuked up abnormality, makes me feel hungry seeing people eating :)

I think it's time for the OP to move on to the 21st century.

If it's done discreetly, you know, where pretty much everything is covered, I have no problem with it at all.

If you can see some of the boob, it can be a bit embarrassing, because you don't want to feel like a pervert if you look over. I often notice the women who are showing a bit of boob are looking around to see who's watching them. Kinda weird.

I would disagree with it if she's spraying it into a cup or something...

Reminds me of a time I was on a bus in Chicago. The bus was full of degenerates, crazy people and old people. (as are most buses in the US).
A kid started screaming and cryin. She wouldn't shut up for about 5 mins.
I could see people gettin pissed off, and the crazy lads were gettin' crazier.
So the black guy up the front starts shoutin down the bus:

'Maan, someone give at babby a tittay'

He kept shoutin it til the kid stopped. Classic

Here's my two cents. I'm a bloke but that shouldn't affect my comments.

If everyone were going to shun breast feeding we'd all be extinct yonks ago. Commercialised milk products are very much a modern thing, and not necessarily as good for the baby as breast milk.

It's a natural part of life and I certainly wouldn't be appauled by it. If it has to be done it has to be done.

I think he is talking about breast feeding on packed trains, not breast feeding in general :)

Can't they use breast pumps at home? Would prefer not to see it but what can you do. Seen an woman change her baby on the bus once it was gross, then they got off and someone else got on and sat down where it was changed :p

Babies are an unavoidable part of life. I cant understand why people find it so hard to deal with what comes with them

    Viva la boobies!

On a side not, when do babies stop breast feeding? 1 years old strikes me as being quite old???

    Naw, 17's the limit.

OP: Not breastfed as a baby? What do you think they're for?

    If it's your mother, yes.

The OP's not the worst. One of my uncles once asked my aunt-in-law (his brother's wife) to stop breast feeding because it was making him uncomfortable. IN HER OWN HOUSE!!!!:(:(

The only shocking thing here is that the OP could see the 4-seater opposite him on the 17.15 from Connolly to Maynooth.

This is an absolute disgrace. If a woman is going to be getting her tits out on a train, she shouldn't be putting a child in the way of them. She should be doing jumping jacks or smearing herself in baby oil or something like that.

I'd thought i'd seen it all, in regards to public transport Hijinks. I'm well aware that breastfeeding is a totally natural thing

Its a natural thing to feed a hungry baby, not "hijinks".

    :D

I really don't see the problem with breastfeeding ANYWHERE. I was in a resturant in Bordeaux Airport in September and the woman at the table opposite was breastfeeding her baby while herself the husband and the kids were eating their meal. It was so...normal! The place was packed and not one person batter an eyelid. As Mairt said HungryBaby=Breastfeeding time! Nothing mysterious or weird about it.

    they're just boobs people, it's not a re-enactment of 7/7.

It's obviously just a fear of being turned on - what else could it be?

There are good natural reasons why taking a dump in public is inappropriate, namely that poo is a dangerous, disease causing substance that people have evolved negative associations with and therefore disgusted by it. The same is not true for breastfeeing.

I can never understand why this bothers people so much. Your average human being has an amazing bodypart known as a neck, which conveniently swivels in such a way that allows one to avert their gaze.

Seriously, if you can't handle watching a baby eat and a bit of exposed boob (not even a nipple!), look AWAY. The baby doesn't care that you are apparently too immature to do anything but sit there and be disgusted. The baby will scream until it gets fed. No one is forcing you to sit there and gawk. Look away or MOVE away. It is that simple.

And breast milk is not the same as faeces. Give me a break. Anyone who draws that parallel has some deeper issues that need adressing.
