Casting is only really viable in large quantities. Besides, it still requires finishing.

I've a few contacts in this area so if anyone has a proper engineering drawing of a part, I can get it priced.

I mentioned the Vintorez only as an example of there being a market for parts other than Yet Another Receiver for an M4. :)

There's also software available that lets 3D printers produce moulds for casting the part in metal. Wouldn't that be cheaper for limited runs?

Software isn't the problem, it's the limitations of the machine. An FDM like the RepRap can be loaded with the model of, and produce, a mould without any problems. The issue only arises when you actually want to use the mould and you realise that pouring molten aluminium/magnesium alloy into a mould made of rough thermoplastic isn't really going to work out...
The moulds made on rapid prototypers/3D printers are usually moulds for resin casting. I've never heard or seen one being produced for metal casting. That's almost exclusively done by CNC milling from billet material, or in single use ones like ceramic moulds.

As Steve said though, casting is only economical in large numbers. Moulds cost a *lot* of money.

Can I take Kari Byron as my queen then? Excellent. The wedding will be Friday, you're all invited. Gift registry is basically just the Haas, DeWalt, FlowJet and Snap-on catalogues.

was reading up on it and it says that a good bit of the original cast won't be featured in it. Didn't say anything but I presume the story will be that they were infected/killed which will be a great start for S2

Two is hilarious Tony - absolutely hilarious.
I'm waiting for season 3. It's possibly the most original tv show to come out of the states in years - there's no way this would exist without the wire having basically opened the door to left field tv shows on cable...

It was just after I typed that post I wondered to myself why I hadnt watched seasons two and three.

In the process of rectifying that as I type this :)

There are a few moments in season two that make 'the bathtub disposal scene' look tame - be prepared!
