Not only was that post, and it's back-up posts from those in on it, hilarious, it also flushed out some peoples colours.
    Win-win.

Ah i see, for years i was of the presumption that an April Fools joke was there to catch people off guard with a humerous fib. I'm glad all those in on it were able to laugh and point at the posters who let their opinions known. But i dont think they will find it too funny. I think the word "entrapment" springs to mind here. If anything i think this shows the "cliques" that operate within boards.

And i'm speaking impartially with regards posts attributed to that thread.

Entrapment implies intention to cause folly. This was an amusing joke with an equally amusing by-product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

i thought it was rather hilarious because it was smart and very observational of the airsoft community on boards, people need to think before they post a little bit more and tbh this was a great lesson, some in this community are far to fast to go for the burning torch and pitch forks

Everyone has their own opinions......i'm of the opinion that this April Fools joke wasn't very funny. Charlie's (QAS) and Stercus's April Fools prank's were funny to me. But because some people showed their concern and dislike that certain other members were to be admins/mod's, suddenly they are the villains in this piece.
Entrapment implies intention to cause folly.

Yes.......so Steve by mentioning that members that have had differences with other persons on here were now becoming mod's/admin's you are saying he didn't think this would case some up-roar. Come on............then i'm afraid you are being as naive as the people you are ridiculing for believing the prank in the first place.

Naive? Haha, excellent. The circular argument begins. It's at this point that I bow out for the sake of sanity. However, do notice that you're the only one not seeing the funny side, and if jokes couldn't have a bit of controversy then the vast majority of the worlds comedians would have no job.

*some posts moved from the news thread - here is better*

Thanks for the thanx lads - glad most people got a larf from it :D

Sorry I locked it down at 12 but there were knickers being twisted a bit too much so it was probably for the best.

It was a joke - April first. I purposely made it as unbelievable and controversial as possible for effect. The other mods jumped in because there was an april fools thread in the mod forum and we were letting each other know what was going on - purely to avoid confusion - I didn't ask them to, it was a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

clubberlang12, I'm sorry you didn't see the funny side of this - if I've learned anything on this forum then it is that you can't take offence at every little thing and expect it to be upheld. The majority of people here have a sense of humour and a reasonably thick skin (as you would expect from an Airsofter) so I'm not prepared to entertain you on this.

If you went on a skirmish and ended up knee deep in cow shíte then you can't really blame the site owners.

Again, to all, thanks lads for joining in the fun! :D

Don't worry Steve, anyone that knows me beyond the keyboard of a computer knows that i am both humour-some and thick skinned. I had no problem with the general idea behind the prank ( i even wished you good luck myself). It was my opinion that when things started to get posted that were more personal a line should have been drawn. Thats just my opinion, whether it be right or wrong.

I handed (well faxed) in my notice to my current employer today. Needless to say, within about a few minutes of faxing, I got a flurry of phonecalls from head office and area management seeing if it was an April Fools prank.

    It wasn't. :D

No problem with that mate - it's a fair point. I wasn't in a position to 100% watch the thread cos, like a lot of people here , I had to work today.
I'm also have to bear in mind that this community doesn't like being over moderated so I'm more inclined to let people say their thing and get on with it - as long as they're not (to quote site mantra) 'being a dick' then on with the show. :)

Hope you either won the lotto (and if you did you're paying for an Airsoft forum beers! :D) or got something better.

Either way, I wish you every success :)

Had to work this morning myself so was in the same boat with regard to missing the general context of the thread till i read it this evening. Anyway, as i said, was only expressing my opinion, so upwards and onwards as they say.

Gonna just weigh in there and add this....if Firekitten didnt know this was coming, its quite possible she could have been very offended and hurt by some of the responses. I guess anyone who didnt find it funny (and I'm willing to bet theres more than you) might be somewhat mollified if they knew she was in on it.

    Steve ? Rachael ?

I have to say....I was absolutely flabbergasted how many people didnt get it.

I make it a personal rule to disbelieve almost every single thing I hear, see and read on April 1st every year, unless I hear, see or read it again the following day :)

Not only did she know, she was a conspirator. Steve was Caesar, but Lemming and Firekitten were Brutus and Cassius.

I honestly don't see an issue with it then. Other than with the lack of savvy shown by so many people in not getting it.

Agreed. Heck, if she can have the sense of humour to run with it, why can't others see the brighter side of the situation.

While this joke could have gone horrible wrong , what the hell , life is too short to get too worked up over a forum.
    Well played all involved.

The task is for the public to work out who was in on it and who was posting their true feelings. LOL

am i the only one that seeing the irony of the complaints and the threads we had recently demanding the forum be less serious

but i imagine this is the wrong type of humor as it is nether rude or crude and clearly at the expense of the wrong people......

    Just to clarify actually...

I was in on this AFTER it was posted, and was told in a PM that something was going to happen. I Knew of both the thread and PMs AFTER the fact.

    Co conspirator? No, not really.

I WAS very hurt, and VERY offended by some of the responses. However, I hold nothing against Steve... the concept was funny, the respones of some were not remotely funny. However what those offensive, hurtful, and quiet serious responses came to sumise, was quite funny.

I'm still quite suprised by the scale of my apparent infraction and ban history... its bloody news to me...

I'm sick and F***ing tired, of the ammount of **** that is made up on here, im sick and f***ing tired of the hoard making snarky comments, responses, and downright nasty posts, and getting away with it, while I'm the one that gets either ignored, or punished for same...

What caused all this crap in the very first place, is OVER... its DEAD... I get on with some of them quite well now, the army of cheerleaders need to wake up and smell the coffee... Get a sodding grip, and act like the adults you claim to be.

Claims suggesting my only contribution to this forum is 'trolling' or 'flaming' or belittling is hurtful and plain WRONG.... I've made hundreds of posts helping new members, helping existing members, welcoming people and giving advice....

Lets not even count the THOUSANDS of words, and many hours that have gone into the serials and guides I've written.

Oh no, that side of things doesnt fit what people want to believe...

Yes, I'm angry, yes, I'm offended, and quite frankly, SCARED by some things of late.

Airsoft needs to get a bloody grip.

I WAS very hurt, and VERY offended by some of the responses.

That was what i tried to get across in the first post about finding the direction of the thread not being funny. Things got very personal, very quickly. Whether you are a willing part of it or not, nobody likes to read/hear things about themselves like that.

Just to clarify, Steve approached us about it although FireKitten was asleep at the time. Amid my laughing whilst reading Steve's idea and giving Steve another suggestion, she half-woke and I mentioned it to her. She just mumbled her approval but that's pretty much the involvement as either she or I had, bar my post to back Steve up, wishing him well, etc.

The thread was funny as f00k, and whilst there were some downright ugly comments made, it all just added up to one very amusing april fools affair. If you can't have a laugh at yourself well then there's not much hope is there?

Steve played an absolute performance, hats off.

@Lemming, thanks for explaining that mate.

@Firekitten you are well able to dish it out when it suits you so don't come out with crap that you were hurt. I don't buy that at all and would certainly not have included you in this if I imagined for a second that you weren't up for it. If I was wrong there then I apologise but, if that's the case, it will seriously change the weight I give to your opinion on future matters.

For the record, when I said "conspirators", I meant it in an amusing fashion to suggest you had knowledge of what was going to happen prior to your names being mentioned. It wasn't meant in the whole "there was a meeting, everyone was there", cloak and dagger style.

Anyway, giggles all around for me. I briefly held a candle that this heralded the dawn of fun and community returning to the airsoft forum. That candle was, however, extinguished with the posting equivalent of an airport fire-truck's water cannon during the fallout.
Oh well, "serious business" continues I guess.

I take that back - it was unfair criticism
